(S05E08) "Hang in there. I'm not done with you yet." - Dave
There you have it, people. The most advertised episode of ABC's Desperate Housewives so far this season (we first heard about it in August) has finally aired. Even if I was entertained by Julie's return, Anne's storyline, Lee's joy after hearing dirt about Bree, and Virgina's antics, it was once again Dave's storyline that got my full attention. How should we interpret the new clues we were given thanks to Dr. Heller visiting Wisteria Lane?
Here are the tidbits we learned (or got confirmation of) about Dave this week:
- "Dave Williams" is not his real name. So that officially discards him being George Williams' brother.
- Dave lived in Fairview before as the place doesn't offer a fresh start and is not safe for him.
- The man Dave is after is part of the band.
- Dave lies, saying that he and the man from his past worked out everything. This means that something bad happened between Dave (or a relative) and the man.
- Dave is concerned when he learns that Mike is in the burning club. He goes in to get Mike out. Some may say that Dave went back in to put the icing on the cake of his "I'm the hero so don't doubt me" angle but, after hearing Dave tell Mike "I'm not don't with you yet," one has to wonder if Dave went in because he is after Mike and wants to deal with him one on one.
Other tidbits of interest:
- When Porter told his parents last week that Anne's husband was bad, I thought Anne told Porter that so he wouldn't talk to her husband and to keep some control over Porter. Witnessing him kicking her made me feel bad for her and almost accept her affair with Porter.
- From the looks of the person who gets arrested and previews for the November 30 episode, I wouldn't be surprised if Lynette claims she is the one who set the fire in order to save Porter (the official episode description says "Lynette and Tom vow to protect son Porter at any cost"). Of course, the investigation will soon discover that Lynette is not the one who set the fire and the woman will be set free.
- Jackson may exactly be who Susan needs right now. Not only does he truly love her but he is the voice of reason that Susan so desperately need, especially now that Julie is not living with her anymore.
- I've said it before and I'll say it again: Virginia is creepy.
- We need to see more of Lee and Bob. It was fun and twisted to see Lee almost have a crush on Bree after learning all the gossip about her! Maybe Lee could start stalking Bree to learn more dirt about his favorite neighbor?

I remember reading Marc Cherry say "It's one of the biggest special-effects episodes we've ever done, actually more difficult than the tornado"
Maybe I missed something, but I didn't really see that many special effects? Unless a lot of that fire we saw was fake, then I'd be impressed, but it just looked like regular ol' fire to me.
And the "People absolutely die" comment had me hoping for some actual minor/major character death, and not just a few extras on the floor of the club.
In terms of a sweeps episode, it wasn't the WOW episode I was expecting, but it was certainly entertaining.

Remember, special effects doesn't just mean CGI. Working with real fire on set can be very dangerous and requires special effects teams to control and make it safe for the crew and cast.

Dave thinks Mike is the only person on Wisteria lane who has been to prison, so he thinks he has his target already. He doesn't know Orson has been to prison before. When the article about Bree's cookbook comes out detailing her boozing, gay son, and former inmate husband, Dave will realize maybe he has the wrong target. Who would think two former prisoners live on the same street?

Carlos also has been to jail.

I think Dave rescued Mike because he didn't want someone to die because of what he did (setting fire to Dr. Heller)

Uhm, six people died? Didn't the preview for next people say something about six people dieing in the fire. Wow. Although the police will quickly learn that one of them died before the fire, when no smoke is found in the doctor's lungs.
Dave has to be involved in Mike's shady backstory, what originally brought him to Wisteria lane and into Susan's life.

I think I was expecting a little bit more from this episode, though this was a good one. I guess since they said it'd be bigger than the tornado. And that more people would die. So far, we only saw one (see some more of my hypotheses on my blog: raked.wordpress.com).
However, I still want to resist thinking Mike's the target. It's just too easy, and since others have been in jail, there are other options. Let me ask you this, do we believe that he really had a brother in jail that was killed? Do you think that's true? I wonder if it's more than that or whether something else happened to set this all up.
Either way, I'm definitely intrigued.

Also, Ryan, thanks for clarifying that Carlos went to jail! I couldn't remember if he actually landed in there or not. Wouldn't that be a twist, to realize (if he gets his sight back) that Dave is someone that he knew before!

They didn't necessarily say that Dave lived in Fairview before, just that he couldn't get a fresh start. My take on that was that he had baggage with someone (his target) that, because he is most likely criminally insane, he will not be able to overcome. If he lived in Fairview before, I find it difficult to believe that Mrs. McC wouldn't be able to dig up dirt on him.
Also, Tom cannot be his target as he has not done time in prison. They mentioned that before I believe.

I believe that we are going to see that Carlos is Dave's Target. We need to remember that before Carlos was blind, had a family and became a masseur, he was a man with some pretty shady business and investment dealings. The icing on the cake for me this week was when the doctor was in the bar and saw the band line up and the camera first focuses on "Dave Williams" and then pans down and stops on "Carlos Solis" and the doctor freaks out. It seems very logical to me that Dave would go after someone who would cause him to lose a lot of money. I just believe he needs Mike for some other part of his plan since he seems to be using the men on the Wisteria Lane.

I think Dave might be after Carlos and wants to frame Mike since he has a shady past.

With the whole, "he didn't want anyone to die other than the doctor", he locked Jackson in the bathroom. He obviously wanted him to die so the death of the doctor wouldn't look so obvious. But the guy definetly has no scruples. He is a bad guy and he didn't care who was killed.

He locked Jackson in the bathroom to die since he witnessed Dave leaving the room with the dead body in it. We see in the future they know it was arson-so if it were a normal situation, Jackson would stand up and say "hey I saw Dave leave the room where they found a dead body and where the fire was set" Of course in this lame show they will string us along over and over. I thought it was pretty pathetic, not much to see, and that little tidbit about Susans daughter with the 40 yo divorced three times dude...ugh! I kept on hoping he was going to say "haha, just kidding". This show has jumped the shark. Its too out there-that when they do the creepy drama its so cloaked in stupidity it gets lost.

Dave may have had plastic surgery and not look like he did in the past. Carlos is a good suspect but I really think it must be Mike. Dave saved him because he wanted the revenge (or whatever!).

I doubt Dave had plastic surgery to change his appearance....Dr. Heller recognized him from the photo on Edie's flyer.

I' m confused by Dave's "new name" because Dr. Heller acted like he was surprised to see him using another name - yet, didn't he go to Fairview after getting the call from the McCluskeys who used his new name in referring to him? I'm probably missing something.... And having Steven Weber as Julie's boyfriend was strange since he also played on Brothers and Sisters and will be on that show (both shows?) next week according to their preview. Oh, by the way Mr. Cherry, if you're planning on Gaby winning Virginia over because she is "the only one who has ever told her no" - you've still got time to invent a more original storyline than that.

I think its pretty clear that Mike is the target -- "i'm not through with you yet" is not proof enough? Besides the DH writers are not that clever to give us red herrings. The word is -and stop reading this if you don't want to hear a possible spoiler is that Dave is the husband of the wife that Mike and Susan killed. Just a theory. Glad that James Denton did not die, are there any other fans out there because it seems like they always seem to threaten that he will die at some point.

Has no one noticed that Bree and Orson were not in the final scene? Outside, we saw everyone but Bree and Orson. We saw Carlos and Gaby getting into the ambulance, and Susan, Lynette, Tom, Edie, Jackson, Dave, and Katherine were all out there at some point.
I think Orson died in the fire. Remember, he got kicked in the face as he was trying to help Carlos up off the floor. We saw him push Bree toward the door. But we never actually saw Orson leave or saw him outside.
And in the coming attractions, there is only one reaction shot of Bree, looking kind of strange....
Any takers?

Maybe Orson did die or is severely injured... He wasn't really doing much on the show anyway. I hope Virginia died so Gabby and Carlos can get all her money. I liked when Gabby was rich and obsessed with designer clothing and stuff. Maybe that's why Carlos might get his vision back, they could afford some insane surgery or something.
