Many of you were pretty vocal after watching last week's episode of Ghost Whisperer. Based on the comments left to my "Reactions to Ghost Whisperer's big twist" post, it was clear that the majority was not pleased with Jim's death and a lot of you claimed you would never watch the series again! My guess is that many of you tuned in this week anyway to see what would happen to Jim. Would he cross over? Would he stay in between? Would he wake up and discover it was all a dream? Would he find a way to be alive again?
Sadly, the answer, for now, takes the form of actor Kenneth Mitchell.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Kenneth Mitchell. However, his role on the show makes me an unhappy GW fan and I'm sure I'm not alone feeling this way. I took a peek at spoilers for the upcoming episodes and I can confirm that Mitchell will appear in at least 5 episodes as Sam Lucas, the man Jim took over.
As you know, even if I would prefer no character dies, I've been looking forward to Jim's death as it could provide insight about how the ghosts live. It did give us a glimpse at the ghost world but all these tidbits were overshadowed by the WTF? OMG! ending of the episode. What are the writers thinking? Do the show's creators really believe fans will accept Sam "Jim 2.0" Lucas especially if he suffers from memory loss as hinted at the end of this week's episode?
I'm "thisclose" to saying that Ghost Whisperer officially jumped the shark with this storyline. Because Jennifer Love Hewitt and David Conrad had great chemistry and portrayed one of the best couples on TV nowadays, I doubt fans of the show (and I include myself in this) will welcome Kenneth Mitchell with open arms. The only way we may accept this change is if David Conrad also portrays Sam Lucas so that sometimes we see Sam as David Conrad and other times as Mitchell. That way, we still have our weekly Conrad fix until they find an official way to have Jim be Jim again.
I truly hope the writers and creators know what they are doing because they entered "jumping shark" waters and may not be able to get out of it, which could hurt the show a lot!
What do you think of the episode ending? Will you continue watching the show or are you officially done with it? Get your crystal ball out and let us know what you think will happen next on the show for Melinda and Jim/Jim 2.0.

Bizarre it is but oddly enough most tv shows are successful in introducing new actors. I predict this new guy may just bring in FRESH air into the series. I just hope it does not get too BUFFY slayer like.

Could she be pregnant? Wasn't there a ghost recently that said something about losing something to gain? It was a black woman and not really part of the story line.

Hope they are happy that they have run off loyal fans. What a crock thinking that hard core fans would accept Jim in another guys body. Really bad decision!!! Will never watch the show again.

Why in the world would you mess with a hit show like this! I am very upset about Jim getting killed off I don't care if he is in somebody elses body. It's just like when they took off Moonlight I really liked both of theses shows. They screw up I won't be watching it anymore.

It seems as if the writers and CBS must be tiring of this series. IMO, killing Jim off will ultimately kill the series. Sad, as I REALLY liked it. No more...

I kept my word. I did not watch the episode where Jim was killed off, and I did not watch last night's. I'm done. I have to question why the network would actually push fans away when they are always complaining that people aren't tuning into network tv.

I may tune in once or twice more, but I suspect not much longer.
Each time I see the show give more and more physical manifestations of power to the spirits and ghosts, it just seems to degrade the show's original concept more and more.
Why can't they live forever? Why shouldn't they?

David Conrad is going to be in the show a lot more. That has been established by the actor himself. So, not sure why you are worried about Kenneth Mitchell. He's going to be there mostly just to reiterate that other people see something different. Remember Quantum Leap? David Conrad is going to be doing the part.

I think it was silly for Melinda to be telling Jim to cross-over and griefing his death and he's doing whatever he can to be with her. Why isn't Melinda not just sad but still angry, and listening to and helping Jim to find a way to come back? Also the concept from the first season was earthbound spirits who have unfinished business. Jim died tragically and at a young age, you telling me he doesn't have unfinished business on earth? And Jennifer Love Hewitt has said from season 1 that she would love for Jim and her to have a child, (I can hear the veiwers groans but...) why kill of the character before Melinda was able to get pregnant? Having Jim's baby would be a wonderful way to pass on who he was and what he meant to her.

Honestly...if it has been Skeet Ulrich stepping into the "body that shall host Jim" instead of his Jericho brother, I'd be on board. Silly as it sounds...I don't like the actor they chose. I LIKE him in other parts, but not this one. I watched the previews and it does look Quantum-Leapish...but I don't see how long that can work.
The bummer of it is that I know they did this with good intentions. David Conrad was unhappy with his lack of meat in the role, and he was right. But there were other options. He could have been shot, died and came back with the ability to hear ghosts, instead of introducing Eli. Yes, it might seem odd that of all people he had gotten the ability, but it could have been explained that since he was open to it, the ability was captured upon his rebirth.
Instead, they took a movie-of-the-week approach, which would work short term, but not over the long haul. I'm pissed. I love GW, and it is the show that made me appreciate JLH for all the girly gooeyness she provides to tv and cinema.
The crap of it is that I will still watch in hopes that it comes back. I did that for a while with Guiding Light...but they lost me in the end. Faith and viewer support does expire after too much fiddling.

If you want to see Jim and Melinda together, and I mean truly Jim and Melinda as we've known them, do not feel dejected. You will get what you want, trust me.

I said this same comment on another thread, but I'll repeat it here too:
Well, not having read any spoilers earlier on, I thought the coyote got pushed off the cliff when Payne left for Africa. (That hug spoke volumes).
All during Friday's episode I was thinking maybe they were creating an opening for Payne to come back, if Gary Unmarried didn't pan out after the original 13 episodes.
And honestly, I don't see that happening, as, while it does have it's funny moments, it seems to be going the way of all the other typical generic sitcoms these days.
David and Jennifer had good onscreen chemistry, but I kind of liked the chemistry between Jay Mohr and Jennifer too.
Payne and Melinda had a little more baseline commonality than Jim and Melinda did, or that seemed to be the way it was developing - before he died.
And with the 3rd guy, they could have become sort of an ersatz Supernatural "Mod Squad" as time floated on.

I did not watch last night and will not watch again with this jumping the shark routine. Very agitated by this, totally screwed up my Friday night AND erased the loyalty I once had. I used to tell everyone I know about this show! Not anymore - except to say "don't watch."

I personally think the show got interesting. Up to this point, the show was just plain good but not great. I think killing Jim stirred up passion in viewers. I was attached to his character but I still think that the writers can recover from this if they're smart. I would like to think they're monitoring the reactions and are taking into consideration our comments. I must say the next couple of episodes will be interesting because many of us are still feeling puzzled and are holding out hope for Jim's return.
I will continue watching the show to see if the writers are talented enough to save a show without a beloved character!

In my opinion they should have never killed Jim. I loved/love Jim and Melinda together. And I don't like the way they're trying to 'fix' it either.
If you wanted him alive (or kinda so) you shouldn't have killed him in the first place.
I'll see it a couple more times and if i don't like the way it's going, I will definitly stop seeing it.

Did you guys not see the preview for next week's episode? It seemed to me that when we Sam/Jim from the outside world's perspective we'll see Sam, but when we see Sam/Jim from Melinda's perspective we'll see Jim. And it seems like we're going to get to see Melinda and Sam/Jim court each other, which I think could be quite nice.

I was looking forward to them having a baby not Jim dying. There could have been a lot of better plots with that scenario. The baby having the same gift as it grows up. The baby being threatened by ghosts...but Jim dying blows. I'm not happy with this turn of events, I hope it ends up a bad dream!

I kept my word and I never watched the episode. I will never watch that show again. I said I would not and I will not. I highly dislike what they did and now that I have read the blog I am sure I made the correct choice.
You know if the produceres and writers hated the show they could always just stop writing for it or just cancel it. They don't have to ruin it. They have ruined it and like I said before I will never watch the show again. Period. So I have made good on my promise and have not watched the show. I am sure when ratings come out the ratings for the show has dropped. People are just to upset over this to continue watching such stuff.
