File this one under the category of really, wild rumors that should become reality: Desperate Housewives wants Governor Sarah Palin to appear as a guest on the show. Like I said, this is a rumor that cropped up yesterday, saying that head-writer/creator Marc Cherry was "very hot to trot to have her appear in the season finale." That was followed by an ABC spokesman denying that there's a shred of truth to the story.
Still, what if it's not such a Lucy Ricardo idea? Sarah Palin as a visitor to Wisteria Lane would be terrific -- and probably a boost in the ratings (which are doing great anyway, but still why not do even better?).
This is a great idea for a few reasons. First of all, she wouldn't have to use her own words. The Desperate Housewives' writers would create a character for her, give her good material and let her act. She's pretty good at reading off a prompter and sounding believable, so I have every confidence that she'd be excellent. In fact, I can't say for certain, but I would bet she's taken some acting lessons in her time, especially since her life-long dream was to be an ESPN broadcaster.
In the week-and-a-half since the election, the former Republican Vice Presidential candidate has been all over the TV screen. She did Larry King Live, an at-home with Matt Lauer on Today, a sit down with Fox, and yesterday was doing press conferences from the GOP Governors meeting in Miami. The woman is clearly more comfortable in front of a camera than any of us thought, so I say let her on Desperate Housewives.
I wouldn't presume to tell Cherry and company what kind of character to create. His inclination, say the rumor, is for her to play someone like herself -- a local politician with strong views on guns and family values. But maybe it would be funnier to see her play against type? Suppose she played an actress on a popular TV show -- a Tina Fey type -- who's famous for her impressions of a certain American politician? Or maybe she's an optometrist with a great collection of eyewear? The mind boggles at the choices.
On a purely political level, Sarah should do it. Any appearance keeps her name and face out there through the next four years until she can seriously get her Palin in 2012 campaign into full gear.

Marc Cherry told Kristin from E! that the Palin rumor is just that, a rumor:

Speaking of playing against types, I think Palin should play the mother of Andrew's new boyfriend that was mentioned on the Spoiler Anonymous post. She can still portray a politician and that would make it even more funnier!!

She certainly is a good actor, for a politician. Unfortunately, she is not that adept of a politician, and her chance at a place on a winning presidential ticket are zero. I welcome the Republicans to try her on the top of the ticket, because the speed of her loss and the magnitude of the Democrat's win that year would make 2008 appear a squeaker.
If she has any smarts at all about her (which I seriously doubt), she will finish out her current term as governer, then run for a second term. And then run for US senator for a couple terms. Maybe, just maybe, she might be able to run for president after that, after she's got some significant experience under her belt, and has learned how to string multiple coherent sentences together without reading from a teleprompter or memorized speech.

Since when is it unfortunate not be a good politician?

It is certainly fortunate for America that she will not be in the big chair, or a couple steps away. But I assume she would rather be preparing to step into the Oval Office in a little over 2 months than spending 2 hours with Creepy Van Susteren trying to extend her 15 minutes of fame.

So what you're saying about Palin is that while her experience level is considerably greater than Obama's, the fact that she can't give a flashy speech makes her less qualified than Obama who's great at speeches, but void of real experience?
Yeah, that about sums it up.
Your combination of inexperienced youth and mistaken belief that you have a clue heaped on top of your blathering makes for interesting entertainment. I bet your mom is always screaming down to the basement for you to lower the volume on your video games while she not-so-secretly hopes one day you'll get your own life.

How is her experience level "considerably" greater than Obama's? Viewing her experience in the most generous light possible, you could say she has similar experience to Obama, not counting his vast and incredibly well-run presidential campaign (They both have similar amounts of time in higher office (The Senate vs. Alaska Governor), and similar amounts of time in positions of lower responsibility (The State Senate, community organizing, and teaching at college before that vs. positions on various commissions and completely powerless mayor of Wasilla (check out the clip of the Daily Show interview with the current mayor of Wasilla. At the same time as she is defending Palin and saying what a great job she'll do, she is basically admitting that the Wasilla mayor has almost no responsibility in actually running the city government)), and there is no intelligent argument to be had for her having more experience.
As far as her not being able to give a "flashy" speech, you have got to be joking!!! She gives a fantastic speech (just view her speech at the RNC and her initial reveal speech before that), probably besting many of Obama's later in the campaign when he was trying to turn down the lofty sentiments. But there is little substance behind the words, which is revealed all too clearly when she was interviewed. The only way she was able to have any kind of favorable impression from her lackluster and embarrassing debate performance was because the expectations were so spectacularly low after the Couric interviews. There is no "there" there, below the appealing exterior and life story, and that was all too plainly revealed.
So about sum it up, you are beyond clueless. I imagine that most of the McCain campaign was filled with people like you, who couldn't imagine how the "inexperienced" black senator from Illinois could possibly beat the white war hero-maverick from Arizona. Thank God they were so pervasively disfunctional, or Obama might have had a real battle on his hands.
