(S17E09) Nope, this Survivor episode's title isn't about Kenny. He's been the mastermind behind the last two blindsides -- Marcus and Ace. If anyone is the brains behind everything, it should be him. He definitely couldn't be the brawn behind everything, but brawn isn't always the key to getting to the final four of this show. So, to whom does the title refer? It's someone who's far from a mastermind in the game, but it's key to the episode. Read on.
Unlikely triumphs, unusual players
This season has been one for unlikely triumphs from unusual players. The first one who comes to mind is Kenny. He went from a meek geek to a major power player within the last three episodes. Yet he remains a bit under the radar of the crowd, as his ally Crystal is so much more blatant about things. He's a gamer and has definitely stepped up his game. He's sort of like a younger Yau-Man sans the charisma and personality. He has that real wimpy physique and seems to pose no serious threat. But threatening he is, and they should be noticing he holds the power of persuasion.
Sugar is another unusual player. She's the wild card of the show, albeit a teary one at times. They keep sending her off to Exile Island, so she really hasn't been able to interact with the others all that much. Kenny managed to get her to blindside her main ally in the game, Ace. She's going to keep on surviving as long as everyone wants her vote. They all think and/or know she has the idol. I don't see her going up for the vote soon.
Then there's Susie. Yikes, talk about a weak player! Ah, but she seemed to get a second life once she allied with Crystal and Kenny. All of a sudden, she's an important vote and can make fire and everything. Who woulda thunk it?
Reward and merge time
I enjoyed the slingshot golf they played for Reward. I can't see me doing it here in urban New Jersey. But given a large field, it could be a cool party game. What I didn't enjoy was Randy acting like such a jerk on the way easy shot which brought the Fang win. Matty was more hyper than needed about it, too.
As for the merge, it was the perfect timing to save Bob's butt in the game. I've grown to like the guy, and he would have been the next target of the Kenny Killer Machine had the new Kota gone to Tribal Council. At least they didn't just jumble the Kota and Fang tribes again. That was getting old.
Vendetta, who has a vendetta?
Kenny is bearing a grudge against Charlie because Charlie "stole" the clue to the immunity idol from him at the picnic. Thus, Kenny goes to work his mojo against Charlie. He spreads the idea that Charlie is "the brains behind everything." Um, actually, no. Charlie was a follower of Marcus. Nonetheless, Kenny plants the seed, and it grows.
Randy has a vendetta against Crystal which seems way overblown to me. He's like a pouty bully. Don't get me wrong -- I don't think Crystal has played the game well, and her personality grates on me almost as much as Randy's does. But Randy has a mean streak. I'm turned off by his bully ways, calling her Sasquatch and Big Foot. He just seems so schoolyard about it all.
Corinne wants Sugar's vote for their side to get Crystal out, yet goes on about her being a moron. I don't know. Perhaps Corinne and Randy should get their own show and call it The Name-calling Meanies or something. Both have a cruel streak which makes me want them booted sooner rather than later. Yeah, I understand manipulating others, but that's not what they're doing. They're just plain mean people.
Fire-starters or not
It's been a while since we've seen a fire Immunity Challenge. More recently, it's been used to break ties. The results of this one were super surprising. Susie and Sugar? I would think that Bob should have been up to the task. But, no. It was one of those unlikely triumphs from unusual players once again. Susie wins the first individual immunity past merge. Wow.
The tribe has spoken
With the way Corinne spoke about Sugar and the fact that Randy also wanted Sugar's vote to oust Crystal (and I don't like him), I was happy that Sugar went with Kenny's mojo-working ways. She's an emotional player, and I can't help but think if she knew what Corinne was saying about her, she'd cry. The Charlie blindside was purely a move because Kenny was angry at him about the idol clue. I'm not sure that I would have gone for him at this time in the game. I think I might have gone for Randy or Corinne because they're actually stronger players. But, at least Charlie can go goo-goo eyes over his buddy Marcus in the jury now.
A few parting notes: I think Bob's fake idol is the best yet. Anything beats the stick, but it even beats Yau-Man's turtle idol! Also, Matty seemed overly happy to see Kenny once again after the Ace blindside. What's up with that?

Jeff mentioned a few episodes back that a recurring theme throughout the rest of the game is "Good vs. Evil." After this week's and last week's episode, I can't decide who is good and who is evil... I find myself always rooting for Sugar, no matter what, and I also thought Marcus was clearly one of the "good" guys, but Corinne and Randy are not exactly what I'd call good spirited, and Crystal is just a miserable trainwreck of a player.
I thought Charlie had it coming sooner or later. It is an interesting turn and I'm intrigued to find out if Sugar can make it even further.
Do any of these people make a good Final two/three? Out of them the only two I would be okay with in the finale are Sugar and Matty... maybe Bob? The rest are so mean spirited that any other finale matchup would just be obnoxious.

I cannot wait until Crystal is gone as well as Susie -- then get rid of the weasel, Ken. Crystal's blatant remarks are annoying, Susie is psycho then lets get rid of Randy -- Crystal has got to go. Mattie, Sugar, and Bob would be a great final three. I am pretty impressed with Bob -- he seems frail but is a hard player on the immunity challenges.
I wished they would view my video that I sent in years ago and put me on the show

Since the weaklinks have the power they are going to vote out Randy & Bob (two good players in the comps) all we are going to have left is kenny, crystal and suzie. None of them last more than 5 seconds in any competition. All i can say is bleh.

Yeah, Bob's idol is definitely the best one yet. I can't wait til someone finds it. I really did like the stick though, it brought out one of my favorite moments in survivor, "It's a stick!"

Bob is the best! I love the idol he made. I can't wait to see how much he could fetch on Ebay with that lol.

Did Bob keep the idol, or leave it to be found? Since he put it around his neck, I assumed he kept it, and was planning to let it slip that he had the idol so Kota would not vote for him, thinking he was going to use it. Then, since their was a merge, he didn't need to play that game.
Also, I see hope for Bob. He is a smart guy who wound up with the wrong group. I could see Corrine and Randy going next. And Bob talking to Sugar, since she is at the bottom of the Crystal/Kenny alliance, and pulling Matty and or Suzie to get Crystal or Kenny out.
And Sugar should use the idol unlike how it has been used in the past. Don't use it to save yourself, but get a person you want out when you don't have the votes. After Corrine and Randy go, Bob and Sugar and say Matty could scheme to get rid of Crystal, even though it is 3-3. Bob, could tell everyone he will vote Sugar if they do, Sugar plays the idol and whoever she writes down is gone. Sort of a planned outing of the idol. Use the idol as a sword rather than a shield.
One last note, after Survivor, who would want Randy doing video for their wedding? I know I wouldn't. If he was booked to do my wedding before I saw this should, I would've called to cancel weeks ago.

I am very much of the opinion that Sugar is playing the dimwit on purpose. She has been the key in so many major plays that there can be no other thought about her. I think she is playing the game the wittiest and will ultimately end up in the final 3 or 2 or 4 or (however many they decide to do this year).

Totally agree with you there. Just when I think Sugar has made a huge game-changing mistake she comes out of nowhere and reestablishes her place as one of the most powerful people in this game.
Also, can someone please tell Ken that he doesn't have to whisper when he's voting at Tribal?

Talk about shocking !!! WOW Sugar is my fav player!!!! She rocks!!! I am so glad she was smart enough to see the weaker (physical) players are the way to go.... Why keep the younger (more physical) players who are a bigger threat!!!!! She can physically beat susie, kenny and crystal in challenges!!!
My dream final 2 is matty and sugar...But we still need to get rid of randy and corrine before i am happy lol

Survivor is all about make the weak teams strong. It's ok to be a weak team and sit around and do nothing and win no challenges. No problem. Survivor will fix everything. Lets switch up the teams to make them more even. Now the strong team loses its players and the weak team's players are now free to knock off every one of the strong players. Next week Randy is gone, then Corinne, then Bob, then Matty, then Susie.
The final three will be Crystal,Sugar and Ken, 3 losers who never did a thing on Survivor nor won a challenge.

I can't wait until the final show when it's revealed that Crystal is a gold medal winner in track. That will be the biggest surprise. Crystal the person who couldn't do one physical challenge on the show without tiring out is a gold medal winner.

Jackie, Ken was responsible for Ace's eviction, while Crystal was responsible for Marcus' eviction, therefore, they make a good team; it's not just Ken doing all of the work. If you remember, had Crystal not told Ken that Marcus was gunning for him, he would have had no idea! Pay attention.

JUST WONDERING... WHICH EVENT(S) DID CRYSTAL COX COMPETE IN... AT WHICH OLYMPIC GAME? SHE HARDLY EXHIBITS "ANY" ATHLETIC PROWESS... AND, SHE 'AINT' NO STRATEGIST, EITHER. COMES ACROSS AS ONE SORRY-ASSED, SPITEFUL, VENGEFUL, NO-APPARENT-TALENT, SLIDE UNDER THE RADAR, BIATCH... WHOSE "15-MIN.S" ARE WAY PASSED "UP".
