Hahn is out and Hunt is in! An ABC representative confirmed to People that Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, who recently starred in the canceled-too-soon Journeyman, has been upped to series regular on Grey's Anatomy. When it was announced that McKidd was in talks to appear on Grey's Anatomy this fall as Major Owen Hunt, a military doctor, it was also mentioned that the stint was to be a recurring one that could be upped to a regular one if the audience responded well to the character.
Looks like the audience will get more screen time for McMajor!
McKidd appeared in four episodes of Grey's so far this season and is set to appear in this week's episode as well. Since the show is currently producing episodes 13 and 14, it's possible that we won't really witness on screen McKidd's regular status until mid-season, meaning that there may be a few McMajor-less episodes until then.
I don't know about you, but I welcome the news of McKidd becoming a series regular. I've enjoyed McKidd's acting skills during his short stint on Journeyman and have been entertained by his character's unusual ways to do medicine on Grey's. And it's about time Cristina Yang gets a real love interest! I only have one request for the show: have McKidd shave his beard. Only then will he really be fully deserving of the "McMajor" title and be allowed to be put on the same "cutie" pedestal we put McDreamy and McSteamy on.

Grey's is starting to get really tiring, just stick with your cast and leave it at that please. The cast size is too much!

I love Mc hunky hunt. The chemistry between him and christina is incredible! He is way too good but it is nice to have a fresh exciting relationship instead of boring meridith and Mcdreamy's on going on again/off again crap.

McMajor/McKidd is my fave new char. in a while, i hope he'll be on for good, and Yang get's serious with him, and no Bourke bs this time... McKidd is way hot, and i mean a PEN?!?! I think him and Sandrah Oh's char. are a perfect match, both have semi dysfunction, she's just born that way, and him seeing people getting killed and blown up around him.... its love waiting to blossom!

I'm going to enjoy Shonda and the writers destroy Owen just like Derek, George, Chief, Sloan, Alek and all the other men on this show. She obviously hates men, so I can't see why anyone is excited about another male slammed to the floor.

I don't believe that Rhimes hates men, but I believe she softens them to match a romanticized ideal. After all, think about her audience's gender makeup. On the other hand, I think Rhimes likes to soften characters anyways over time. Look at Bailey and the Chief. I hated their toughness the first three seasons, but I realize now that the personality contrast made the show less one-note.
So, I'm sad to see Hahn go just as Rhimes started to make the character stronger. On a side note, I hope they don't shave McKidd's beard. He needs a bit of gruff to contrast with the baby smooth faces (and pseudo-stubble) of the current male cast. I think the loss of Burke, did slightly upset the gender make up as he was the one male character that couldn't be as easily softened into idol status -

did i mention all the guys in the cast are super good looking, and im really hoping that they dont get rid of izzy, i love her char. and yang and torres... i personally dont like grey's char alot of the time (not due to pompeo's acting, its brilliant, but due to the char.), grey seems cold alot of the time...i mean she basically hates her half sister who cant help what happened and how she was raised and who she was raised by (but its who that char is) sometimes its hard for me to connect with a char. i can't see myself in, but love the male cast, and still love all the female cast!! but im not hating they got rid of hahn, i didnt connect with her char. and shes a great actress, she'll find another show

Hahn is getting totally screwed because of whiny Christians who couldn't handle the lesbian angle. Get over it. But they never get over it, they have to force their asinine amorality on everyone and bitch when TV shows "offend" them ... but since the disease of Christianity is so widespread the networks often cater to their mental delusions. That's what happened hear. The poor sick people with the mental disorder of Christianity got their way, and got a good character (and working actress) kicked off a popular prime-time TV show that NOBODY was forcing them and their diseased minds to watch.
Take some antipsychotic medication and turn off the TV. Don't write whiny letters. Stupid, sick, irratinoal religious people. They should all be quarantined in internment camps where they can pray and whine to each other and not interfere with the lives of those uninfected with their highly communicable mental disorder.

Christianity is not a disease any more than homosexuality is. However it does make you wonder what kind of person would post such derogatory comments about something or someone they obviously know nothing about. Maybe you should research the facts, yes facts, before you begin to pass judgement. You cant expect something from someone else you are not willing to give yourself

WOW you must be one of those open minded tolerant liberals! Cool! Now go pound salt you ignoramus.
If they were so willing to cater to the right why was there a gay character to begin with?
You are much more ignorant and prejudiced than those you attack. Open your eyes, that character and situation and relationship was bloody awful. No chemistry, awkward, poorly written, etc. Now if they want to get Issy and Lexie together ... that’s just good TV.

He will always be Lucius Vorenus from Rome to me. I, unfortunately, have problems picturing him in any other role every time I see him.

It's a nice gig for him, but seriously, he's way too good for this show. Hopefully they don't ruin his character like they've done to pretty much everyone else.

I have to agree with you but it seems to be the only way we can get him on TV right now. Maybe this gig will lead to him getting something better once he leaves GA.

Radwimp,
I'm with you. He's better than this show. I'll watch it if it's the only way to see him on a regular basis, but I'd much rather see him as the lead on a better show.
