(S08E08) Kara is back, fulfilling Laura Vandervoort's one-episode obligation for this season. She looked like she stepped right out of one of the Mad Max movies. The only question I had is how they would quickly dispose of the character after reintroducing her and I admit that they threw me on that one. I figured she'd die in the Phantom Zone, but it would somewhat diminish the spin-off possibilities if they did that. The current tactic of sending her on an indefinite mission so they could bring her back if they wanted works much better.Did anybody else notice that they mentioned Guitar Hero in the dialogue at the episode's beginning and it cut to a KFC commercial with a promotion involving...wait for it...Guitar Hero? This is product placement that is almost as good as the Stride Gum infomercial episode from last year.
Once again, Clark narrowly escapes having his secret blown to Lois, who only appears to be a crackerjack reporter but instead is quite possibly the most ignorant reporter on the planet. The whole "I was possessed by aliens" convenient hallucination only works for so much, and I think they used that one up with Luthor a few seasons ago.
The Lois/Clark relationship is still going, what with Fayora's (Faora? I can never get my Kryptonian spelling straight) comment to Clark about his feelings for her. Did anybody else notice that the minute Lois was possessed, she adopted a different hairstyle and wore more make-up? Strange. That didn't happen to Lex.
Once again, I must note that it seems like all Kryptonians flee to Earth, like there are no other planets in the cosmos. Earth is the Kryptonian equivalent of Florida, where all their race goes to retire.
It's amazing how the show can tell us virtually everything about Doomsday, including his secret origin as the spiritual offspring of General Zod and some woman named Fayora, yet still not reveal to us what he looks like when he goes all Hulk-like. They have to save that computer animation for a very special episode. Since Clark is supposed to be a messianic figure, does this make Davis Bloome the anti-Christ?
Also, and this is a minor quibble, if they're going to have obscure references to Back to the Future and The Empire Strikes Back (I'm truly revealing my uber-nerd persona now by recognizing the name "Lobot" used in Chloe's comment), would it have killed them to make a reference to Superman II by having Zod's wife named Ursa?
It does seem like they're leading even more to the concept that Chloe has Brainiac stuck in her head. I wonder if the writers will be tying that into the whole "Zod offspring" storyline. Probably.
I have two final observations from this episode. First, a lot of people were bleeding. We had Clark, Kara, Chloe and Mr. Bloome all leaking the red at some point as a recurring motif. Second, almost all the regulars (except Jimmy) appeared in this one. This makes sense, since a lot of important stuff happened, but it already feels like the Doomsday storyline is dragging on too long. I have been pleasantly surprised by the change it tone that followed the departure of Lana and Lex, but unless there is a significant reveal I'm not seeing, I predict a major disappointment by season's end.

There was a big negotiation with Allison Mack (Chloe) at the end of the last season. I'm assuming that the fan backlash from removing Chloe was so great that they had no choice to leave her in. After all, if she left, Clark Kent is the only one remaining from the original cast.
The money had to come from somewhere, and it seems to have been from Vandervoort's contract. I doubt it had anything to do with her. It's a shame, because I think leaving her in and keeping out the Green Arrow and Doomsday would have been a better direction. Still, I can't argue with the fact that this season is better than the last.

I think they should have Clark reveal his secret to Lois, and then they could become a couple before Superman is created. She could help him create the Superman identity and also protect his secret. This show doesn't follow the Superman story from the comics anyway, so why waste time hiding behind a pair of glasses. It would be a great way to end the series.

The slow reveal to Doomsday isn't what is bothering me (In fact I like how they are slowly making us build sympathy for Bloom before he becomes a killing machine). In fact that was the only part I liked about this episode and made up for the rest of the episode. I also have hopes for the Chloe is Brainiac story but I think that is being wrapped up next week by the look of it.

On the Ursa issue, I believe it was mentioned in a Smallville podcast I listen to that the script originally had the character named Ursa. DC however said no to using Ursa so the writers used Faora. In reality though Ursa and Faora are the same character as Ursa doesnt exist in the comics until recently, the movie character was just Faora by another name

The ratings is the lowest in the history of Smallville. This is a series that is continuing not because it is good but because it is on a dying CW network who needs this show. This has been a terrible season. Lois looks old and tries to act young by acting stupid. She looks about 40 and Lois doesn't call Clark by his name, she calls him Smallville. Sometimes a show should end for its own good.

So you hate the show, yet you continue to watch it? If that doesn't imply intelligence then I don't what does. I hate to be a troll, but if you think the show needs to die stop watching it! That way the show will be dead to you, and your life will be better for it.

Actually, dancersixteen, this ep had the highest rating this season.
Every version of Lois (comics, tv shows, movies) called Clark "Smallville" and Lois is supposed to be older than Clark. She's around 24. You saying Lois looks old, is offendig the actress. Erica doesn't look like she's 40. She's a beautiful and talented actress and season 8 is the best season of Smallville so far.
This is only my opinion, but as rating show.. many others think the same hence they tuned in for episodes that had Lois in them, more than for episodes without her.
