I think one of the weirdest things that happened on election night were the hologram thingies that CNN used. It was OK when they showed an image of a building, but it got really strange when Anderson Cooper interviewed will.i.am (almost as weird as me having to write someone's name as will.i.am). Cooper was standing there in the studio, looking off to the side, waiting for am (is that his last name? Or is he one name, like Twiggy?) to pop up in front of him like on Star Trek. The whole thing looked kinda cool but also kinda cheesy, and it was funny when Cooper introduced the interview by saying "we're joined now via hologram..."Now comes the scandal: they weren't even holograms!
The CBC is reporting that the images can't be considered holograms because the anchors (Cooper and Wolf Blitzer, when he interviewed Jessica Yellin) weren't looking at the images in front of them, it was only empty space in front of them. That's probably why we saw them looking offstage a few times. There was no image in front of them to look at, just an image viewers could see at home.
If you're interested, the images CNN had are called tomograms. There will be a test tomorrow so make sure you study these terms.

It didn't help the effect that the anchor was stading something like fifteen feet away from the 'tomogram' image. (Happy, Bob?) It made it seem as if the anchor was afraid to get too close because of radiation or some other potentially toxic effect.
Of course, amidst all of the Star Wars jokes made throughout the night, I wish at least on of the 'beamed in' guests had said something about how the plans for the Death Star have been hidden inside this R2 unit. Oh well...

I'm with you. We knew that they weren't "holograms." It's like revealing that -- gasp! -- the weatherman is actually in front of a green screen!

I agree that its not a scandal but for a different reason. Since when does anyone believe what CNN has to say? If they say its a hologram, my first thought is no its not ... Of course I'm sane and not an Obot ..

For about half a second on Tuesday, I wondered if Wolf was seeing the same thing we were seeing. But only half a second. It became clear pretty quickly that this was a video effect, nothing more, and the use of the term "hologram" is so inaccurate, it's not even funny.

This just in! Keanu Reeves can dodge bullets and jump off buildings! Film at 11.
You realize that Bob gets paid by the word, right? So, the more inane posts he makes, the more money AOL wastes.

Wow, such snark from the commenters. I thought it was a relevant post about the technology being used by a _news_ organization. News organizations are supposed to report truthfully and to not misrepresent the facts (yes, I know this doesn't always happen).
In this case, CNN misrepresented the technology by calling it a "hologram." Being clear about what it is may help to avoid future confusion on the part of the audience.

Problem is Bob is about a day late with this. You could read about it almost anywhere else on the web already and in a way that didn't treat CNN as if they were really lying or the readers as if they actually believed Blitzer and Cooper actually looked at ANYTHING in front of them.
Anyone with half a brain knew that those images were added into the already recorded image later on like the 10 yard line in Football.
It's just that - Bob writes for the lowest common denominator and by that insults my intelligence on a daily basis. I could actually produce my own little Daily Show like program where I simply collect all past posts Bob wrote and call him out on all the items that were written up better elsewhere and/or proved false because Bob does a total amount of ZILCH research.
