(S03E02) "I watched Boston Legal nine times before I realized it wasn't the new Star Trek." - Tracy JordanTina Fey was on The Oprah Winfrey Show today and mentioned that the day they filmed their scene together (a Saturday, a day they don't usually tape on but had to so Oprah could appear) was the same day that Fey first appeared as Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live.
That story has nothing to do with tonight's episode but I thought it was a cool piece of trivia. Fey also said she's never going to play Palin again.
Anyway, this episode has a lot of great quotes (like most 30 Rocks), and I think 98% were by Kenneth (the title of the episode refers to Kenneth's scrapbook). He and Jack have a big, meaty plot in this episode, with Jack trying to prove that Kenneth isn't as moral as he seems to be after he overhears Olympian Tyler Brody and Jack talking about how many Olympic events (including Brody's tether-ball) were faked for ratings. Odd how the name Brody is used for two different characters this episode - fake Tyler and the real Adrien. The third plot has Tracy trying to prove that blacks have it worse in this country and Jenna trying to prove women have it worse. Some funny makeup, but it's the least effective plot for me here.
Of course, those aren't the big plots of the night anyway (though I think just as much time is spent on them), the biggie involved Liz meeting Oprah on a flight to Chicago for jury duty (she never switched her residency - something we're just learning). The dialogue is great (Liz and the line about bowel movements is priceless), and we sometimes forget that Oprah is a good actress. And I have to admit that I didn't see that bizarre twist coming at all. A clever solution, considering viewers probably think that it's odd that Oprah is sitting next to Liz on a plane.
Those great quotes:
"This one time at summer camp I kissed a girl on a dare, but then she drowned." - Liz
"I never get picked anyway because I wear my Princess Leia outfit." - Liz, about jury duty
"Do you know who I am? Seriously, tell me who I am!" - Tracy
"Did you know that President Bush's approval rating was almost 15% after the Olympics?" - Jack
"Was any of it real Mr. Donaghy? Beer pong, jazzercise...women's soccer?" - Kenneth, about The Olympics
"I'll call you back. I'm sitting next to Barpo!" - a drugged out Liz
"I don't believe in hypotheticals Mr. Donagy. It's like lying to your brain." - Kenneth
"There are only two things I like: everybody and television." - Kenneth
"You're gonna have to choke me with my belt. I will fight you, it's human nature." - Kenneth, to a stranger on the elevator
"You don't mean hero like sandwich, do you?" - Kenneth, to Jack
"Is SpongeBob SquarePants supposed to be terrifying?" - Kenneth, to Jack

Princess Leia/Lemon was priceless. I love how sometimes it's just a clip a few seconds long that gives me the biggest laughs on this crazy show.

I think I remember a previous time when Tina Fey appeared as Princes Leia outfit, it was on Saturday Night Live. Paris Hilton was the host and the sketch was like a phone sex hotline for trekkies. There's a picture of her on the webpage.

My two favorite quotes were from Tracy tonight and I am so happy you put the one about Boston Legal as your main one. It took my brain literally a second for it to realize what he had just said and then I just burst out laughing. And every scene Dotcom and Grizz are in can be absolutely priceless. I would love to see those two and Tracy actually on a boat.

I thought Jack's line about thinking he met M. Night on a place was the best line of the night!

Oh she'll be playing Palin again. Round about 2011 when Fey's career craters and Palin is motoring through the primaries on her way to a date with Hillary in the general ... ;)

I doubt Fey's career will crater, but she did a fantabulous Palin and I'd hate to see that character die . . .

I think Tina is adorable, and very talented, but I just can't watch her anymore.
If she could have just refrained from telling everyone (over and over and over) how much she hates Sarah Palin and can't wait to not HAVE to portray her.
Now all I can see when I watch her is one of those loud mouth liberal (Susan Sarandon) that has to tell you what they think about the real world.
Shut-Up and Act.

Best line of the night was when Liz was talking about the meds Jack gave her:
Side effects include sexual nightmares and sleep crime.
Holy hell that had me dying.

Good recap, Bob. But you're giving Liz's enunciation too much credit! What she actually said in her drug-addled state was: "Imma call you back! I snitting next to Bor-Po!" Best line of the episode, in my opinion. (Though the Leia moment is a close runner-up.)
