Election Night: CNN (Part 2)

anderson cooperThe continuing adventures of Anderson Cooper, Mr. Magoo and the magic board.

10:20
: They've moved out to the lawn in Phoenix. The atmosphere there is quite a bit more, uh, subdued than in Chicago.

10:19:
Yikes. Dana Bash looks more and more depressed each time they show her. She's reporting that McCain's camp has given up.

10:08:
Wolf Blitzer: "Arkansas. Put that in John McCain's column right now." Is it wrong that that made me snicker? It doesn't even make sense!

9:59:
Iowa was just called for Obama, and Anderson Cooper just asked what they're going to do when he gets to 270 electoral votes. "We leave!" was the reply. We'll see if that actually happens. Could we have an empty eleciton center soon? Check back for more coverage!

9:55:
Roland Martin compared the Obama supporters in Grant Park to Lollapalooza. Meanwhile, back at the Biltmore, an unidentified old man is wandering around aimlessly on stage.

9:40:
John King is making interesting bets about the states on his magic board. He wouldn't bet a dime on some things, but he ups the ante to betting his life on others.

9:39:
Drink. They're not calling the election, but John King is having a very hard time figuring out a way McCain can win on his magic board.

9:37: Wow, they've actually turned off the news at the Biltmore Hotel, where the McCain supporters are. They've got Hank Williams Jr., and that's about it.

9:33:
There are already thousands of people gathered in Grant Park in Chicago, waiting for Obama. Chicago is going to be the drunkest city in the world tonight.

9:32:
At this point, they're pretty much saying, "screw it." Since PA has been called for Obama, they're making projections left and right. CNN just called Ohio for Obama.

9:30: I'm kind of disappointed in CNN right now. Usually by this point, they've passed the flask around a couple of times and are completely loopy. Instead, they are frustratingly coherent.

9:22: At this point, it's looking as though McCain supporters hanging out in Phoenix may not be getting the results they want, but they are getting a Hank Williams Jr. concert! So that's something, right? From what I understand, he was, in fact, born to boogie.

9:19: David Gergen just asked if Obama has "coattails," and I seriously thought he said "coke dens." This coverage almost got interesting. Almost.

9:11: I know I shouldn't make fun of Mr. Magoo, but he is literally standing in the middle of the CNN election center and eating a sandwich or something. He looks like he wandered in and got lost. At least he thought ahead enough to pack a snack.
