It's 10:00 P.M. Do you know who your next president is? Here are some more notes about the election coverage over at ABC
8:52 Guess what's coming to ABC primetime in January? It's the beginning of the phrase 'and found'. So far, we've had two ads about the new season. Uh oh, 15 more states close polls at 9:00.
8:55 My 2-year-old just woke up. He must be worried about the fate of the U.S. just like the rest of us.
9:00 Whoops! They went to Charlie before he rattled off the latest results. We got to see the electoral count numbers before he was finished. Always keep on the graphics, kids.
9:10 Yes, we know that Grant Park is getting crowded.
9:20 Charlie Gibson's first job was covering a Paul Harvey speech in Lynchburg, VA. Not too sure if I should insert an old person joke here.
9:22 So, David Axelrod, are you saying that we need to count the votes? I didn't quite get the first 5 times you mentioned it.
9:32 Ah, Diane just stood up and she's wearing a skirt! Droooollll! Man, she can read my results any time.
9:24 An ABC News special report during an ABC News Special report? How strange. It was a projection announcement mentioning Obama got Ohio. So, it was okay. And now, they're moving over to ABC Now rather than our local coverage. Hmm.
9:34 So, ABC's election headquarters stands above Times Square. There are now thousands of people covering the sidewalks around the huge screens showing the live coverage. Yet, authorities have yet to close traffic around the area. What's up with that?
9:38 Well, they have a remote from Kenya, but no sound. Gosh, those new-fangled satellite technologies. Now the sounds back, but there's dead air.
9:46 I am so glad I have a 42-inch HDTV to watch the ABC election coverage because that set is HUGE. By the by, the governor of Minnesota is writing off McCain right now and saying the Republican Party will go through a Dr. Phil moment. Just as long as he doesn't do a show on them.
9:53 We seem to be at a lull in the action. I'm tempted to jump to Comedy Central's Indecision '08 coverage. Catch you all after the local news.
10:01 It takes Charlie something like 90 seconds to get to the touch-screen map. Next time around the set should be a bit smaller. Something in the range of one block or less.
10;15 This is the toughest part of election coverage. They rely on the election results so much that they need to stretch to keep it interesting. It doesn't help that they have sound issues tonight when performing remote interviews.
10:24 Hey, this time around Stephen and John are covering Indecision '08 together. Oh, sorry, I changed the channel. Won't happen again.
10:32 Well, we got our Oprah reference in, courtesy of an interview with Robin Roberts.

In New Zealand, the local telly station TVNZ used a mixture of their own anchor inside a tiny studio, ABC News and CNN footage. The ABC set looks amazing and Peter Jennings is just on the ball - and then they cut to their own one-man anchor - two academical guests cramped behind a wooden desk and taking questions from an anchor sitting 10 yards away in another wooden desk with a bland American flag graphics in the background. It's embarrassing. By the way, our election in an week's time will feature pretty the same set...
