(S03E06) After the way last week's episode ended, I could hardly wait for tonight's episode. The title loosely translates to "If You Can," and I wondered how this theme would play out through the episode, as the Dexter themes always do.
The way I see it, "If You Can" hits on so many levels.
Can Miguel stomach the kills like Dexter does? Can Dexter share his dark passenger with Miguel?
I guess we won't find out anytime soon, thanks to Dexter's good sense finally kicking in after weeks of making me a nervous wreck. I'm glad Dexter trusted Miguel enough for Miguel to prove that he really is a true friend to Dexter, but I breathed a huge sigh of relief that Dexter did not kill in front of Miguel.
Dexter has shared more than he ever has and I am starting to trust Miguel ... or am I? Have we, like Dexter implied when he said he knew everything there is to know about Miguel Prado, gotten down to the reasons why we didn't trust Miguel? Yep, he's a shady ADA, but does he really mean no harm to Dexter? Time will tell if he really is Dexter's first true friend. This storyline just gets more and more interesting, and I love the way it is unfolding.
Can Rita mix business and pleasure with Syl as successfully as Dexter has with Miguel?
Rita takes the real estate assistant's job, so I guess we'll find out. This was an interesting scene, though, with a funny little quip from Dexter about not being able to hide anything from your partner.
Can Batista get a date with the vice cop? Can the writers convince us this is an important storyline?
Yep, and she went about it in a clever way, with that little test. If that's what she needs to trust that Angel is on the path of righteousness, then more power to her.
Can Dexter find the perfect piece of key lime pie?
Probably not important, but this lady has meant a lot to Dexter and has helped him find out pieces of his past. I thought it was a significant juxtaposition that the worst thing for Camilla wasn't dying, but losing her dignity, and this is basically what Dexter strips away on his victims the way he carries out his ritual. From Dexter's point of view, they deserve it.
Can Deb solve the skinner murders?
She's a clever one, that Deb, and she's putting together some important pieces of the skinner puzzle. We can all start looking for a new suspect, I guess; it really doesn't seem to be Ramon.
What did you think about:
- the soda up the nose? Um, yuck; that's torture for sure.
- Deb's and Anton's tender moment?
- Harry telling Dexter that every time he lets someone get close it ends up badly? Is this foreshadowing an event with Miguel? With Rita?
- Ellen implying that there was much more dirty about Miguel than the Chickie Hynes case?
- Deb telling Quinn that Yuki was after him? I've got the tension building around how this one is going to play out.

A little spoilerish for the opening bit of the review, isn't it?
I usually check out the beginning of these reviews before I go watch an episode, and usually there are no specific plot points mentioned. Maybe you could move that spoilerish paragraph out of the post preview?

Wow. I'm about as anti-spoiler as they come. But complaining about spoilers AFTER the show has aired. You really have no one to blame but yourself for that one. I often times see the reviews come across my RSS feed reader before I've seen the show, but at least I don't start reading them and then complain that I've read something I'm not supposed to. As long as the title of the article isn't "OMG, DEXTER KILLED HIS SISTER" or there isn't a picture of something major that happened in the episode, I don't see how you could complain.

TV Squad has a longstanding policy not to provide anything spoilerish in the teaser to their reviews. All I am saying is I expect them to continue with that policy.

I don't agree , I usually check out the reviews on TvSquad just after I saw an episode.
Doing it backwards ,and then point out for some spoilerism , doesn't sound that smart to me .

The Camilla thing is interesting. He definitely looks like he is going to put her out of her misery, but I can't imagine he would do it without explicitly asking her first. That will be an interesting scene.
Quinn definitely seems like the odds-on favorite for the peeling killer. You would think that Quinn "taking care of" his IA ex-flame would result in her death, but that would seem way too obvious and point to him. I wonder what he is going to do with her. Maybe he'll get back with her and manipulate her. He likes doing that.
God, the whole Prado family is going to be destroyed by their association with Dexter. With friends like him, who needs enemies.

First, why would you read the first paragraph of a review prior to watching the episode? I avoid sites like this if I have not watched the show yet.
Now to the point, I think Dexter is going to kill Camilla. This season has been playing with his rules. In the past, Dexter only killed those criminals that the justice system was unable to punish. Is it a very big stretch to euthanizing a lonely woman who has terminal cancer and is in pain? If the show is going in this direction, I am interested to see how this type of killing will change Dexter's ritual and whether he will experience the same sort of release or pleasure.

That's an interesting observation about Dexter putting Camilla out of her suffering. How that will change his thinking and ritualization of his killings (which is already exposed with his association with Miguel) will be interesting to watch.
Would it slow him down? Would it be therapeutic in a weird sort of way?
Oh, and I too refuse to come to sites like TV Squad before watching a favorite show's episode because these sites are essentially *review* sites. A solution for people who don't want to be spoiled prematurely would be to check the RSS feeds and DON'T COME HERE UNTIL YOU WATCH YOUR SHOW.

It's 'Yes, We Can'. Unfortunately, your whole review was based on a faulty translation, which made it pretty painful to read. Nice how the writers managed to get their support for Obama into the episode title and have it fit too.

This is kind of late, so I doubt anybody will read this, but "si" without an accent means "if." Debra was correct in her translation. I'm pretty sure the writers knew that and intended it as a pun.

This is over a week late, but the episode actually does have that accent. I'm pretty sure the writers knew that, so they put it at the start of the episode when the title always comes up.

I think they've been foreshadowing Quinn as the skinner, but it's quite possible it's the other connection to the case, Anton. This episode, and the rest of this season, have been amazing. I can't imagine being more hooked on a show than I am with Dexter right now. Every episode drops my jaw (Miguel helping Dexter get that Nazi in custody was sick) and the acting and cinematography rival any top-level crime drama. Awesome episode, awesome show.

I think that Dex will definitely help to off Camilla, and will get caught! After all his murder, the only really noble one will be his downfall, and Prado will help get him off the hook.
I don't think Quinn is the Skinner - ain't it too obvious? I mean, from the first episode, we're supposed to suspect him of something... it's probably providing intel to the real skinner.
Meanwhile, if the skinner is following Deb, why isn't Anton dead yet?

They episode was an interesting one, the season as a whole has been quite good; however, I've been finding that the lighting has been overpowering. It gives the victims an almost angelic feel but not in a good way, it softens the frame too much. I feel like the show has lost its way in the lighting department. Hopefully it can get on cinematography track like Weeds did at the end of last season.
