Ben Affleck is the host of Saturday Night Live tonight, which will also feature an appearance by Senator John McCain. No word on what McCain is going to do on the show, but it would be fantastic if he could appear in the sketch where Affleck plays Keith Olbermann.Yup, Politico.com is reporting that the NBC show is finally going to spoof the MSNBC host. In fact, they are going to portray Olbermann as (and I quote from the article) "a deranged person living at home with his mother." Sources on the set say that somehow the real Olbermann got past security yesterday afternoon and watched Affleck and the cast rehearse the segment. Olbermann says he liked it and thought it was funny.
This is going to be must-see TV tonight. Actually, SNL has been pretty all must-see this campaign season. I can picture Affleck as Olbermann. He has sorta the same shaped hair and head. Maybe one of the other guys can play Bill O'Reilly.

"a deranged person living at home with his mother" how exactly is that a spoof?
And Polly, most non-commies don't watch Countdown so thanks for braving the insanity for the rest of us.

I don't know about SNL being "must see" this season. Other than Tina Fey SNL has been less than mediocre. Which is disappointing. They're getting a lot of eyeballs but the rest of their show has really disappointed.

He treats the story as if it's earth-shattering breaking news that Olbermann was on the set, when in fact KO already talked about it last night on "Countdown." Here are some questions to ask yourself: Was it necessary for Calderone to add a bunch of "insider" jive from "sources," in the manner of Page Six? Doesn't he realize that gives off a smell of attempting to manipulate the public's perception of the skit IN ADVANCE of tonight's SNL broadcast? Why else imply, ahead of time and without proof, that Olbermann had a hand in determining the skit's content? And why would Bob opt for getting his info third-hand, rather than directly from the subject? Readers are entitled to wonder about these things.

Folks,
Some of us don't get MSNBC, so we can't watch Countdown. I even wrote about Comcast taking it off my cable system (well, I'd have to pay more) a few months ago here at TV Squad.

Ah, now it makes sense why tvsquad has gone in the crapper over the past few months - they only get extremely basic cable! I would've thought it was tax deductible, being a business expense...

Note to Keith's 'supporters'...the audience is laughing hysterically because that is exactly what he is like in REAL life.

Um, no Nick. That's not how it works. I get most cable stations, it's just that Comcast in their wisdom made MSNBC a channel I have to buy a whole other package to get. I think it might come back at some point once they figure out their digital tiers. For the time being, it's CNN and FOX News for me.

Bob, you don't need to get your information 3rd-hand from Politico. All you had to do was watch "Countdown" last night to know that, yes, Olbermann was there -- he said so -- and the spoof is a go. It's not some deep dark secret, as Politico's Calderone implies.

Dear Polly,
Bob is the maître D of 3rd hand information... "luckily" for us that doesn't prevent him from having a 1st hand opinion...

He doesn't imply that it was a secret at all, much less a deep dark secret. It simply mentions how the paranoid freak Keith Olbermann snuck past security and crashed the rehearsal. Apparently the scene was enough to spook Affleck, which is pretty bad. But nothing about it being a secret.
