(S03E07) Have you noticed how quickly an episode of Heroes goes by? It's not a bad thing, but it just goes to show you how much they pack into each episode. It helps that they're juggling forty to fifty storylines at any given time. It's one of those things where when you're looking at writing up a review of the show there's just so much that happens. Again, I liked this episode but there weren't any major developments as far as the bigger events. We did have another de-powering as well as another death. Kristen Bell returned to the show as the troubled Elle, and Claire's mom again showed us what her power was by holding her palm up and having fire dance on it. Hey lady, we're sooo over it! Does Peter get his powers back? Does Sylar really just need a hug? Did Hayden Panattiere finally get any acting lessons so she can show more than "earnest" on her face?
Hero By Hero
- Nathan - So last time we saw Nathan and Tracy they were strapped down in Suresh's lab and begging to be saved. Now they're just sitting there chatting him up?
- Suresh - In fact, Mohinder was pretty much back to the old Suresh as far as his behavior went. Even after he took Maya to Pinehearst (that came out of nowhere, too) he wasn't nearly as unstable. Either he's got massive mood swings, like spider-PMS or something, or he's regaining control of his emotions.
- Maya - It looks like we may finally be saying goodbye for good to the boobs. In fact, she didn't even give us one last good shot of them. De-powered by Papa Petrellie, because he needs a massive killing power like that, she's pretty much useless right now.
- Tracy - Tracy's purpose this episode was to be "the girl." She even got all Pandora by just having to touch the coccoons in Suresh's lab. As for that, what the hell is going on with those. Maya was still alive, as was this guy. I don't think even Suresh knows what he's doing.
- Angela - Every time I think I understand her powers, I find out there's more to her than I thought. So now she can visit people in their dreams. I'm thinking her precognitive dreams are just on facet of a larger power based in the dream realm.
- Sylar - This is the only character whose evolution makes perfect sense. He's so craving parental affection and acceptance that I can buy his attempts at redemption and how easily he was swayed by Arthur to turn on his mother, but still managed to save Peter's life. A truly complex character. Who'd have thunk it?
- Peter - I guess technically Peter's as useless as Maya now, but as he's the main star of the show, I guess he's not leaving any time soon. At least he can stop being a whiney bitch and turning into a crazy Sylar-lite villain. Now he can just whine naturally.
- Claire - But now he can whine with Claire, who's still crying that she can't feel pain. I absolutely loved that the first meeting between her and Elle went down exactly like a comic book "hero" meeting. First, they fight over almost nothing for a bit, and then they team up.
- Elle - Will Arthur take her powers too so she can leave the show? I hope not. This secondary mutation of abilities she and Claire are experiencing is I think a fascinating development that could move the next act of the series. Oh, and she made the drink cart fly down the aisle of a plane (we've never seen that before!).
- Matt - He's such a nice guy this season he's almost foppish. He did pull one over on Knox.
- Daphne - But he's still getting suckered by Daphne. It's disappointing that she's still under Papa Petrelli's thumb, even though I know it's driven by fear.
- Hiro - Hiro's in Africa doing what Matt did. Maybe after he goes back home, Peter will stop by. For now, it's all pretty damned boring.
- Arthur - Arthur does scare me more than Sylar did. He's just so ruthless and powerful, it's hard to imagine what can take him down. At least with Sylar we knew that Peter was just about his equal.

you "it came out of nowhere" doesnt fit. Last week Tracey froze Suresh and her bindings and got out....Suresh had the card and had daphne telling him "they already have figured out what you are trying to do" so when confronted by nathan and tracey he took maya to arthur.....hence nothing was "out of nowwhere" does this show have to hold your hand?
Elles powers arent "developing" when Sylar tried to take her powers she short circuited.
I thought it was a great episode. but if i had missed it and just read this? you wouldnt have thought so.

ive always been a fan of heroes, and i have to admit this was probably my favorite season 3 episode, but it still fails in comparison to what season 1 brought, but regardless it was a pretty good episode! finally elle is back! everytime she's on screen she fully draws my attention! she's 'captivating', and to kill her off would be a very very bad idea! i also like the chemistry between her and claire

finally someone else agrees that hayden or claire one emotion face is annoying. it reminds me of ryan on the o.c. lol. anyways hopefully she really can take some acting classes cuz the one expression face is annoying.
they got rid of maya so now were down to 2 cute chicks elle and claire. claire cant act so its kind of annoying so that leaves elle but i dont like how shes kinda dumb running into pinehurst wanting to lose her abilities.
daphne needs to do something with that bloody hair. matt should be able to read her thoughts that shes lying.
the only time hiro was fun was when future hiro came back to warn peter and he was all hardcore english and damn near a killer. he had a lot of edge in that one scene.
i am interested how the meeting between nathan and daddy goes.

Claire and Elle on a plane???? the finally show someone flying on a plane just to have their powers "wig out" and make the plane crash. why didn't they just drive???? over 3 seasons, everybody walks/drives from Odessa to California to NYC with no problem.
Peter and Syklar keep rescuing each other every week has gotten old. a least some of the minor characters are getting wiped out.
but this episode seemed more focused and you can see a direction of where they are going and how Volume 3 wiil end.

This my have been it for me. There is nearly nothing in this show worth watching any more. The character transitions have been terrible, the acting is just aweful (and getting worse every week - Daphne is just a horific character played by an even worse actress), and the writers just don't seem to care any more. What made this show great in the first season was the way they fit the development of extraordinary characters into an otherwise ordinary world. It was a character-driven show that featured characters capable of carrying the program. Now it is trying to be a plot-driven show, but none of the characters is strong enough to drive the plot on his or her own. I've seen every episode of this show, and with each episode of the current season I have to try and convince myself that things will get better, that the next episode will get the show back on course. I don't think I can talk myself into it any more.
I think there's a problem over there at NBC ... My Own Worst Enemy - I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes - already seems to be unravelling. If that show fails it will be tragic.

Can I just say how much I love this paragraph? "We did have another de-powering as well as another death. Elle didn't make the drink cart move, the fact that the plane was in a nose-dive caused the drink cart to move forward.
And wouldn't it have made sense to have Elle wear some thick rubber gloves to prevent her accidentally shooting out electricity?

About the mutation of the abilities you mentioned..I was under the impression that Sylar "fixed" something in Claire when he took her power, so she couldn't feel pain? Anyone else?
I like this so, and I have liked season 3 so far. My biggest question is how Peter will get his powers back. If he doesn't, I wouldn't be very happy. I was looking forward to a showdown of Peter and Sylar vs. the Villians, all power intact.
Also, do you think Sylar is fooled by Arthur? Or is he just staying there is find out how to defeat them?

I agree with you about Sylar. I don't believe he's bought into Arthur's story or he wouldn't have saved Peter. I think he's pretending so that he can be the inside man and still retain his powers.
I was almost ready to give up on Heroes this season because the first few episodes were too scattered and incoherent but the show is getting tighter and more interesting now.

I'm also confused at Mama Petrelli's powers. I thought Charles Devaux was the dreamwalker. Maybe they had similar powers?

Maybe Angela simply has a very strong bond with her sons. I honestly thought it was Maury who told Sylar to get up and get out and go see his dad because obviously Arthur is planning on having Sylar by his side.

No matter what you think of this episode, how anyone could be giving up on it after seeing the preview for next week's episode was never a real fan to begin with. I mean come on at least tune in for that episode.
In any case, I am frustrated with Heroes because it's pretty scattered and some characters' motivations are nonexistent. That being said, I love episodes where people are reunited and there were a lot of reunions in this episode. The HRG, Meredith, Tracy, and Nathan scene alone had me in stitches.
And Claire and Petere, i.e. my favorite characters in season one, are also reunited. Hopefully the S1 magic comes. They always had great chemistry.

I thought the reason the plane was going down was because it could not hold the weight of Claire's ass and chins. Was she this fat last season?
I always thought this show was fluff. It's still kind of fun to watch but could use some hot chicks.
Why is Nathan going to Pinehurst. So papa can kick his ass as well.
Peter: "Dad is alive and evil, took all my powers and just watched when I was thrown out a 7th floor window."
Nathan: "I'm going to fly and do fly stuff and stop him with my amazing flying ability."

Honestly, I've gotten bored with the series because there doesn't seem to be a thread that carries through this season. They need to take a page from BtVS, and have one "Big Bad" (Peter's father?) who is only evil and doesn't change sides like Sylar/Angela. There needs to be a constant. I like the snark/vulnerability between Elle and Claire, and I'm annoyed they're making Hiro boring.

I hope they dont remove Elle's powers and make her useless. However that lets take a plane idea was idiotic. Then again at least they were realistic since as you said this show make cross country trips by car seem like they take a couple hours.
Also I hope Shurish dies because his character is just uninteresting and annoying. Even with Maya gone I dont think it will improve. I just hate the whole "the fly" thing they are doing.

I feel like a need a score card after this episode to keep track of who is in league with whom. So many alliances were formed, broken and double crossed in this episode that I’m not sure who is on whose side anymore.
http://redlightnaps.wordpress.com/2008/10/28/heroes-eris-quod-sum/
The best line of the whole night was when Mohinder asks Arthur how he could put his son through his fake death. Arthur replies “Have you met their mother?”
The episode title Eris Quod Sum means “I am what you will be” and I understand that it’s a motto often used on gravestones. Does that mean there will be more deaths?
I loved when Lyle doused Elle with water – apparently it not only put a damper on her power, but her chronic bad mood. Unfortunately, I’m not impressed with Elle’s latest storyline.

I just quit Heroes.
I can't take it anymore. Elements that come out of nowhere, 55.62 storylines per spisode, characters acting like a writer wrote them solely to provide an effect or a "conflict," I have HAD IT.
Heroes is off my TiVo, and Tim Kring has no one to blame but himself. He made a complete mess of the amazing potential to restart at the end of the mess that was season 2. Instead of a reboot and something good, he made it ten times worse.
And he mocked Lost? His show is more Lost than Lost ever was at its worst. That's it. I'm out. Not even in passing...not one more minute of Heroes will ever be deliberately watched by my eyes. My time is more valuable than this.
