Joss Whedon has posted an update on the status of his new, upcoming show Dollhouse on his blog, Whedonesque. Basically, it's suffering from the "network interference syndrome" that has plagued so many other shows in the past and forced them to early cancellation.The worst aspect of that particular syndrome is that when the network execs' ideas work, they take credit for practically the whole show. When they don't work, it was obviously a fault of the show which richly deserved cancellation in the first place.
I admit a little concern when production shut down on the show. But Joss has navigated the network executive waters before and has hopefully learned how to deal with it. Granted, expectations for anything Joss-produced are sky-high but since networks are investing more in existing shows due to the crappy economy, I'd like to think they'd give someone like Joss Whedon, who has a proven track of television success record a chance.

As a Whedon fan its fustrasting. Why does JJ Abrams seem to be allowed to do and put anything he darn well wants, while for Whedon time and time again there is always somone who wants to screw him over. Abrams wants to do another series this time on Fox (which is notroious for cancelling sci-fi shows) great, he wants to direct the new "Star Trek", go ahead. But Whedon writes a script for Wonder Woman, he can't get the studio to approve it, he wants to make a new series, Fox has to give him a short leash. Frankly its insulting, and I think Whedon knows it, and as a fan it pisses me off.

Honestly this is the first Joss Whedon show I have been interested in. I tried to get into Buffy and I just couldn't, and with risk to injury, I thought Firefly was a subpar sci-fi show... but this show looks like it has a lot of potential and I hope he gets to do it his way. Shows always seem to suffer when the show runner is run off by the suits.

Firefly bombed. Serenity bombed. Buffy and Angel may have been successes, but that was on The WB/UPN, where the ratings didn't have to be so high. Whedon has yet to succeed in the big leagues, unlike JJ with Alias, Lost, MI3 and Cloverfield.

He hardly has a record of television success... he had moderately successful shows on Network Jr. and then tried to make the leap to a bigger one. He failed, so he tried to make that into a big studio movie, which failed. Now he's trying to make another big network show, and apparently failing.
Dr. Horrible was amazing. Maybe he should keep doing web stuff.
