For CBS, tradition and consistency are the keystones for success. So while CBS Corp. president and CEO Leslie Moonves talked about a few new projects in an interview with TV Week, he also shared the news that the network will be booking more Survivor and The Amazing Race editions in the seasons to come.To this I say, hooray! Especially for The Amazing Race. There's a reason this show has won the Emmy so many times. The current race has been terrific. Survivor seems to be having a bounce back season, as well.
I was turned off to the last couple of seasons -- China was a drag -- but I'm enjoying the current contest. Anytime an antagonist like Ace emerges, that's good TV to me.
Moonves was bullish about some new CBS projects in development:
-- A musical variety show with a sweepstake angle.
-- A witchy, magical drama called Hex Wives, that's being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. They produced Hairspray. Sounds like Desperate Housewives meets Buffy. Okay, I can hope!
-- A new medical drama from director Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential) and producer Carol Barbee (Jericho). Please, something better than 3 lbs.
-- Magic City from executive producer Mitch Glazer, about a ritzy Miami Beach hotel in the 1960s. Hmm...Mad Men in Miami, perhaps? Can't you just see Jimmy Barrett playing that hotel in 1962?
All in all, I'm glad about Survivor and The Amazing Race, but that Magic City thing really sounds intriguing. If it is as good as it sounds, let's hope it sees its way out of development and pilot season and actually on the air.

I guess that's why it's so hard to have a hit TV show. I have never liked The Amazing Race (my wife loves it, so it's on all the time in our house). Watching team after team booking flights in an airport is not my idea of excitement. And I thought this was the poorest season of Survivor in a very long time. Ace is the biggest reason I feel that way, I can't stand the man and I want him off the show.
I'll pass on new shows until the old ones entertain me again. If they can't keep my interest with solid programming like Survivor has been , then why should I try anything new?

If that's all you think The Amazing Race is (booking flights), you haven't watched much of an episode. That's 5 minutes tops, and is unfair to the amount of work that makes the show happen. Seriously, it's staggering how much it takes to make that show work.

I guess I am one of those old-fashioned TV fans that thinks all reality TV is wasted time and mind-numbingly boring. The fact that they created an Emmy for it is the first sign of the downfall of our nation.

CBS has lost me as a viewer until Nina is fired. She has no brains. I'm still watching a few shows on there. Once she cancels them and replaces them with crap that channel will be completely phased out for me.

I'd love to watch the Amazing Race this year. The first episode was great. I forgot to set up the VCR (can't afford DVR at this time) so I missed number two. For some reason, CBS does not provide full episodes online for the Amazing Race, though it does do so for Survivor. So, bottom line: I'm not watching the Amazing Race, which I really miss.
