I recall a time when Ron Howard was diligently trying to distance himself from the two television icons that made him famous: Opie Taylor and Richie Cunningham (from The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days, respectively). Now, thanks to Funny Or Die and in an effort to get his candidate of choice (Barack Obama, if you didn't know) elected, he is prepared to step back into those two roles. And to do so, he takes Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler with him.I didn't really grow up with Andy Griffith, but it was quite the nostalgia trip to see Ron Howard and Henry Winkler as Richie and the Fonz again. Winkler seemed to just slip back into the character despite all the years. As for Ron Howard, much like in that old Eddie Murphy SNL sketch, no matter how many directorial features he has behind him he will always be Opie Cunningham. A pity that neither of those characters are old enough to vote.

Gosh Pa, there's nothing new or surprising here. We have Hollywood telling us we should vote Marxist and we have Obama Squad linking to it. Now we've got several fondly-remembered television characters forever linked to the fool whose great plans come with no details other than taking money from those that work hard and giving it to those that feel entitled. I guess by association they're also linked to that ugly America-hating man he married, too.
It's telling that the biggest supporters of a socialist state are actors. You know, people whose stock in trade is being something they're not and whose arrogance fills them with the idea that they somehow know enough to tell the rest of us how we should vote. Unfortunately many of the idiots blogging and commenting here just eat it up like it was free government cheese.

I get so tired of people who disagree with one way of thinking calling them un-American. I guess Obama is running for president so he can destroy the country?
Plus, if the Hollywood types hated America so much why would they vote for someone who is going to give them a tax raise since I doubt they make less the 250k a year.
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...won't get fooled again." -George W. Bush
By the way, this might make you upset, but I'm a republican, I voted for Bush both terms and I've already put in my early vote for Obama. It's crazy, but I think he'll do a darn fine job as president.

like gwnagi, i don't want to get in a fight here... but this kind of needs to be addressed;
"taking money from those that work hard and giving it to those that feel entitled."
I work hard, I pay my taxes, and some of my tax dollars this year have gone to bail out those that are FAR better off than me, and to the negative ad campaign McCain has run.
You live in America, Franklin... where we've always paid taxes to give us the things we have. This isn't socialism. Part of what Obama wants to do, and has certainly explained in great detail, is roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, making sure we all pay our fair share. This whole "spreading the wealth" meme, is crazy, 'cause it's been OUR wealth that's been spread UP for the past 8 years... personally I'd like to see it go the other way for a while, or at least even out.
Because of the loopholes and tax breaks that these huge companies can take advantage of, you see them generating enormous profits while the country goes broke. As an average citizen, I still have to pay my share, and that tiny share along with all other normal, hardworking, pro-America Americans small shares have to make up the difference for what the large corporations have pocketed under 8 years of Bush... and it obviously ain't enough to cover it. See the current economy for an example.
Eating it up like government cheese? Here's McCain, a few years back, responding to a question from a girl who wants to know why her her father, a doctor, pays a higher tax rate than people who earn less:
McCain: "I think it's to some degree because we feel, obviously, that wealthy people can afford more."
Doctor's daughter: Aren't we getting closer and closer to, like, socialism and stuff?
McCain: "Here's what I really believe. When you are, reach a certain level of comfort, there is nothing wrong with paying somewhat more."
But now it's socialism? He couldn't be changing his tune now to scare people into voting for him, could he?
Just educate yourself and be sure not to vote against your own best interests. I'm not telling anyone how to vote, I'm just asking that they make themselves an informed citizen before they make their decision.

Adam, I have listened to Rush on occasion, but I'm not "a listener" at all. If it sounds like I'm regurgitating his words then perhaps he's made some cogent points that anyone who understands how this country is supposed to work would make. Conversely, anyone too young to truly understand what even recent history has taught us will be flummoxed by these points and easily taken in by smooth talking wrapped in flashy advertising.
C.A. - Yes, Obama's running for president to destroy American. He honestly believes that the prinicples our country were founded on are faulty and that he's smart enough to know a little socialism is just what we need. The hollyweirdos are voting for a tax increase on themselves because they're in the same camp of hating an America that's run even remotely like it was originally intended.
Scott, as you openly admit to being for taxing the "rich" your opinions about anything political are invalid as you are caught up in the socialistic movement and don't really understand the tenets upon which this country were founded. It's obvious you're too young to really remember the years of the so-called cold war and how we systematically defeated communism and socialism through persistence and proof that capitalism works far better in the real world. The irony here is that now we have the likes of Russia and China embracing capitalism while you ramshackle lot parade the banner of the very thing we worked so hard to defeat.
All of you are making the false assumption that I'm a huge McCain supporter. You're also mistaken that I'm a Republican and a supporter of Bush. Easy enough mistakes to make when you're readily moved by superficialities and surface features while being immune to deeper truths.
Fact is I'm an independent who would prefer just about any Libertarian candidate over the two piles of steaming excrement we're consistently served every 4 years by the big two. I am, however, pragmatic enough to realize that the masses aren't yet ready to consider the viability of a candidate outside of our two major parties, which should be renamed from Republican and Democrat to simply "Dumb and Dumber". Therefore, I'm voting for the smaller and slightly less odorous pile of excrement known as John McCain. His service to this country is something to be admired, even if I can't admire much else about him, so that service is the tipping point for me.
Until a majority of the citizenry of this country realizes that both big parties are destroying the constitution each in their own way we'll have nobody but ourselves to thank for the continued downward spiral of our great nation. We're miles away from that as evidenced by the almost religious fervor over Barry The Messiah. It's proof that nearly all Democrats and a huge chunk of independents are only interested in the wrapping, not the contents.

So this was a socialist country under Clinton? I'm just talking about the plan to roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy - which haven't worked out so well for the country as a whole, rich or poor, ultimately. I do think the rich should be taxed, I'm taxed too, so are you... if that invalidates my opinion in your mind, then so be it.
I didn't realize this was some socialist movement, nor that i was a part of it. I'm talking about electing a democrat for president, not a socialist - and I'm a registered independent who agrees with a lot of your issues about the two party system. Right now we're privatizing profits and SOCIALIZING losses, under a republican administration. This really sucks for the middle class, witness the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
let me throw this up there again, McCain in 2000:
"Here's what I really believe. When you...reach a certain level of comfort, there is nothing wrong with paying somewhat more."
you in your reply to me:
"you openly admit to being for taxing the "rich" your opinions about anything political are invalid as you are caught up in the socialistic movement and don't really understand the tenets upon which this country were founded"
and
"...I'm voting for the smaller and slightly less odorous pile of excrement known as John McCain. His service to this country is something to be admired, even if I can't admire much else about him, so that service is the tipping point for me."
So using your logic and McCain's own words, you're voting for someone who doesn't understand the tenets upon which this country was founded... why not just vote Barr or write in Paul?
To paraphrase you, this logic makes me wonder if your opinions about anything political are valid and if you really understand the tenets upon which this country was founded.

I think your arguments are invalidated, as I clearly stated before, by your belief that the rich should be taxed more. That's such a tired, old line from the DNC and a cornerstone of their continued Marxist attempts to pit class against class. You've bought into it so, yes, your arguments are filtered through an agreement with socialism.
I can't see any real evidence that the Bush tax cuts are hurting anyone. I'm firmly middle class, but have never been so economically stable as I am right now. My business is steady and I've been able to invest in some modest growth. Unlike you I haven't bought into the emotionally-charged rhetoric about how these tax cuts are making the rich richer and killing the middle class, but I'm basing my beliefs on what I'm seeing and experiencing while you seem to be basing yours on DNC talking points.
If you were only talking about electing a democrat for president and not a socialist you'd be talking about someone other than Barack Obama. Since you are talking about Obama one can only surmise you haven't fully educated yourself about his beliefs, you know, the ones he's allowed to be known.
Yes, based on his comments you've posted twice, McCain is a hard pill to swallow too. The difference is I know McCain's going to try some of the same socialist-slanted crap Obama's going to try while you just don't seem to get it. You've said you're voting for a democrat not a socialist which explains clearly that you are unable to see what he really is. Ironically you see flaws in McCain explaining that he feels the rich should be taxed more while supporting a candidate who's going to do far worse.
The real difference between you and I is I realize we the people are going to lose no matter which of these jokers gets elected. You haven't shown you're able to do the same.

I am SO tired of "famous" people thinking that their opinions on ANYTHING, especially politics (no matter who, or what they are championing) matter one tinker's darn.
These people for the most part can't even manage their own pathetic lives/careers so what gives them, or more importantly us, the idea that their thoughts and opinions are even the slightest bit "enlightened"?
Sadly, all three of these folks (Howard, Winkler, Griffith) were people I had good opinions of. I have to seriously question that given their sense of self importance.
Take a cue from other celebrities and tell us to VOTE, just don't try to tell us HOW to vote!
Sure makes me want to haul out a picture I have and start some mass Emailings to their contact emails. The picture shows a soldier raising a coffee cup with the caption. "How about a nice cup of SHUT THE !#$% UP!" (ok, the picture has the real 'F' word in it, but I figured it wouldn't fly here)

Interesting. So you've never never given a damn about the opinions of famous people... and yet, once you learn those opinions differ from yours, your feelings about those famous people spin 180 degrees. How very fascinating...

EVERYONE'S political opinion matters. And everyone is free to express it, whether anyone else agrees or not.
That's what is so amazing about America.
Ron Howard and other celebrities have every right to express their opinion. People who have a problem with it are generally jealous of the fact that people listen to celebrities and not them.
