I don't know about you, but in these tough economic times, I've contemplated trimming my TV budget. You know, scaling back the premium channels to save a few bucks ... But there's at least one important reason to hold off on the budget cuts. Larry David is getting back to work. HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm resumes production in December and there will be 10 new episodes commencing in 2009. Our long national wait is over, people, Larry and Jeff and Richard and Loretta will live to kvetch and mock again.
Do you realize that the last new episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm was a year ago? A year! That's forever in TV, even when you factor in the Writer's Strike. Still, as Curb fans we're used to waiting. Larry once took off nearly two years between seasons. We understand suffering for the jokes.
When we last saw Larry in action, he had had an epiphany -- or so it seemed. Was his embrace of a happy, family life with the Blacks the real thing? It looked like it, especially that Christmas scene.
But some have wondered if Larry was screwing with us and that was all a dream sequence. You know, a Bobby stepping out of the shower/Dallas bit that erases what we've just seen.
I never saw it that way. To me, Larry did have a major insight and realized that he loved Loretta and her family and that was what he wanted. Of course, Larry is a miserable human being, albeit a very funny one, so if that storyline was the truth, then Larry would find some reason to be unhappy and dissatisfied when the new season unveils in 2009.

There's very little continuity betweens seasons on Curb, but they will need to answer if/how Larry gets back with Cheryl.
I suspect he will be single, since the real-life Larry David is now divorced. It could be fun. Some of last season's best scenes were when he was dating. Remember when he was asked out Lucy Lawless, "I'm not a cool guy or anything. I'd like to waste your time for a few hours"?
Or when he asked out Dr. Susan Flomm (Brenda Strong) with her hilarious home that looked and functioned just like a doctor's office?
Funny stuff.

I don't care if it was a dream or not as long as Leon's still on the show. The Leon/Larry dynamic is comic genius.

This news is pretty, pretty, pretty good! I really hope JB Smoove goes back to Curb. Not only was the character Leon hilarious, Smoove needs a funny show to wash Till Death from my mind.

A year is NOT forever for HBO. Please do some research before you post about TV. Thanks.
