(S03E06) Say what you want, but I think this episode continued the good streak established last week. It looks like, after a shaky start, the Heroes train is finally back on the track. All it took was some patience. That's a good sign for the rest of the season. Now if it could just get some of those lost viewers back. I hope NBC is factoring in downloads, DVR playbacks and streaming views online into their decisions regarding this show as I know it performs extremely well there.
Okay, I knew there was no way Hiro would really kill Ando like that, but it was cool seeing how he pulled off that trick. Maybe all the naysayers who say Hiro is stupid this year will rethink their stance. He proved himself pretty damned clever with this little maneuver and now he's officially "on staff" at Pinehearst. And even though Matt is back in the US, now Hiro will be heading to Africa to see Parkman's precog friend. That's good, because I like this new addition to the cast.
I like that Daphne is morally conflicted about what she's doing. And I'm even appreciating the layers of complexity added to Sylar's character and how he wants to stop being the monster that we'd all grown to know and love. It's just Peter being basically the same thing that I'm not so thrilled about. Actually, they almost seem to be reversing roles which is even more terrible.
I understand that the theme of this early part of the season appears to be our established characters questioning ... well pretty much everything about themselves. Parkman, however, seems particularly naive and earnest in his pursuit of Daphne. Actually, between Parkman, Peter and Suresh I guess I'm still not thrilled with a lot of the character direction here.
Credit where credit is due, the puppet master's theater is genuinely creepy, as are the extents of his powers. It's too bad Claire and her mom had absolutely no idea what they were getting into. I have to imagine this is a character that we'll see more of. You just know Pinehearst would love to get their hands on him.
Secret Identities
- Thank god Matt put that turtle in a cart. Otherwise he'd have never made it back to America.
- I actually kind of like the character of Claire's mother, even though she was kind of arbitrarily thrown into the series this season.
- So there is a way to kill Adam. Does that mean Arthur now has his ability? Maybe stealing abilities runs in the family, it's just the method by which it is done that varies.
- Time travel vs. precog = hilarious results.
- During the gun game, even Claire showed a spark of intelligence, convincing her mom to "kill" her. Since puppet master has no idea about her abilities. See, they're not all stupid this year.
- Still annoyed with what's going on with Suresh, and now he's got Nathan and Tracy. Hell, blow up the loft and just get rid of all of them. I can live without any of them at this point.

Yeah I definitely agree that Heroes is coming back, I didn't mind last season but it has definitely picked up back to the calibre of the first season.
I thought Arthur had gotten Adam's power (unfortunately,he was one of my favourite characters) as when he pulled the breathing tube out of his throat the hole closed up.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Arthur’s power pans out and who is going to be left to oppose him.

I thought the promo last week said (or maybe I read it somewhere) that we were going to learn why Claire was special this episode. But all we saw her healing power again. Did I miss something?
And how exactly did Daphne race into Level 5? Don’t they have security, scans, locks?

I'm guessing that Parkman's dad mind read the necessary security information from Angela when he put her in a coma last week when he posed as Arthur.

Papa P. did get Adam's power, he regenerated. However, in stealing his power, I guess it also made all of his cells age to their true age, thus causing him to die as opposed to just taking his power and then letting him live from the age that he appears to be. Unless he took more than just his power and took his 'lifeforce'. Maybe had he taken the power from Claire, she would still be alive because she's still a teenager. Adam is...well was...400+ years old.

Nice analogy. I didn't think of the age thing when Adam turned to dust. I figured it was some nasty trait of Arthur's power.

I hate that they killed off Adam. David Anders is awesome & made Adam really interesting.

Well, it's not like Matt has the power to make people do things or anything ;-)

Normally I can forgive minor errors like this for the sake of story. But this one was so flippin retarded! It is highly illegal to bring a wild animal from another country to the US.

Yes it is, but as Dave mentioned, Matt could have brought a flamethrower on the plane and made everyone think it was a copy of the Washington Post, so no writing errors were made.

Sorry, but that's inconsistent with how Matt's powers work. He'd have to use his ability on all of airport security... which seems unlikely.

what nitpickers!!!
He could have used his powers with anyone who asked him about it, and everyone else would have assumed it's alright, because others had let it pass.
Or he could have had ONE head customs agent escort him through the gate area
Or he could have worked through "special papers" exempting his animal from the regular customs process.
There are a variety of ways this could work if you didn't just want to sit around finding faults in things.

It's not inconsistent at all. It's the reason why Nathan wanted him at his press conference last season. Nathan said he needed Parkman to make the press listen, which was certainly more than one reporter.

As long as we're nitpicking - how did he afford a plane ticket from Africa, and surely he didn't have his passport on him so how did he get customs to allow him into the country?

The Puppet master needs his own spinoff show! The Russian Roulette segment was the best part of last night's show, and his character has more depth than all of the "villains" this season.

I have more to say, though I might just keep it for my own blog (raked.wordpress.com). Unfortunately, I missed the last 10 minutes due to TiVo errors. Thanks for the recap.
Anyway, I just want to say that I love Matt and that turtle. I just started rewatching last week so I don't know the story there, but it cracks me up. And you're right. Time travel versus precog, great. Though for a second there, I thought we might have two Hiros, figuring he wouldn't wake up in time to stop him from going back in time. In that case, we might end up with Hiro clones. That would be funny.

Wow, I'm surprised how much you liked this episode. I think it's getting worse each week. The characters all seem to be idiots.
Note to Suresh: When you've witnessed someone you've taken prisoner use their powers to freeze anything they touch, don't 15 minutes later shake their hand. Duh.

My question is did Mr Petrelli take ALL of Peter's powers including his ability to "collect" them?

From the previews for next week it appears so, otherwise Pete would have absorbed the other threes powers that were in the room with him.

Another question is shouldn't Peter have absorbed his father's ability when he walked in the room? When his father hugged him, wouldn't it be like Parkman and Peter trying to read each other's minds? Penalties offset, replay the down.
