So J.J. Abrams says that there might be a Lost big screen movie in the future. This is a terrible idea. You know what that would mean? It would mean that the ending we've been promised - after the sixth season - really won't be the complete ending. We'll get a lot of answers but not all of them. They'll save that for the movie that we'll have to pay $10 to see. At least the X-Files movie came in the middle of the series run, and the sequel was a stand-alone story, so you didn't feel you were getting ripped off or teased. A stand-alone Lost movie wouldn't make much sense.
To be fair, he says that a movie version of the ABC series isn't a definite at all, and his "gut" tells him it won't happen, but he's less against the idea now than he was a couple of years ago, and I'm sure other forces could convince everyone to make the flick (for example, money). I don't want to see a "continuation" of the story on the big screen. In fact, I'll tell Abrams and Lindelof and everyone else over at the show this right now: if you make a movie of the show I won't go see it. I'll just wait and rent it on DVD.
Here's the video. Keep watching the segment after it ends as Abrams talks about William Shatner, bad interview questions, and Stanley Tucci.

What's been explained time and time again by JJ and Darlton, when it comes to the movie, the finale is going to resolve the TV show and all the major questions asked by it. The movie would come in as a continuation based on that ending and answer any minor questions afterwards. They've said that the finale is definitive, but it does make for the possibility of a followup movie. This isn't an epilogue, it's an afterword. My guess is it's going to be more of a "where are they now?" sort of thing with a plotline running through.

straight to dvd release... all in
full theatrical release... no chance, even when LOST was at its peak a movie version would have a tough time pulling in casual/non-viewers

Don't worry about this at all. J. J. Abrams has no say over Lost. This kind of this is completely up to Darlton, and so far there's not a word from them.
Remember this is network TV, a movie would be more trouble to make than it's worth.

Sorry, but Abram's stock IMO has declined. He has shown he has been a great initial concept guy, but never quite knows where to take his ideas. Most of his series have languished over time. We are lucky Lindleoff has a vision and has been there from the start with Lost. Abrams coming in and talking movie feels like screwing with a good thing. If Lindleoff wants a movie, there should be a movie. I stopped caring what Abrams thinks.

with all the garbage that is on TV at the moment, i would love a Lost movie, anything more on Lost would be much appreciated.
All the new Fall shows are simply garbage (including fringe), except for Life on Mars (US), which is pretty cool

Freaking out over every damn thing there Bob?
He said "Sure there is a chance if we ever needed to end the story, but because we know we end with season 6 we can plan for it". There won't be a movie unless some strike happens and the finale is never made.

I am not completely opposed to a Lost movie. I think it would be incredible on the big screen. And I dont think Abrams is so terrible with his concepts. Cloerfield was a great movie with also some connections to Lost including the Darma Logo on the film reel found. I hope all questions are answered including the monster, how Bwen called it, the 4-toed statue(which I think is john Locke) and who it belongs to. Amongst tons of more questions.
