(S05E04) "Orson, we're partners. We share everything. Any success I have is just as much yours as it is mine." - Bree
It's no secret Bree is my favorite character. Yet, I didn't enjoy this week's Bree-centric episode that much. It wasn't bad but it's not one of the episodes I'll watch again. I get why Bree told Orson that they share everything and that any success she has is also his; after all, they are husband and wife. But what is Orson's share of Bree's success? He wasn't there when she launched the company and worked hard to make it successful. Does he really deserve a "we were named business woman of the year"?
One thing I'm not enjoying from the 5-year jump in between seasons is where Bree and Orson are heading. I've enjoyed watching the two plot, lie and backstab together. They used to be a fun couple to watch. They were supportive and loving in their own twisted way. Because of Orson's time in jail, the couple grew apart and lost that bond they shared. For us, this translates in having fun Bree and Orson scenes be replaced by awkward ones (Orson ordering Bree to cook dinner, Bree having to tell Orson she won't hire him, Bree asking why Orson is not there by her side at the luncheon, etc.). Sadly, it looks like we will never get the fun couple back together since it's clear Orson, even though he got a job at Bree's company, will ask for divorce. Will this lead to them patching things up as they discover that they really need one another? Or will the divorce proceedings end in an ugly war between the two? I hope it's the former. You?
Other tidbits of interest:
- The Solises' second child finally made an appearance.
- It's nice to see Susan and Mike try to remain friends while raising MJ. I was pleasantly surprised to see them talk calmly about their differences at the hospital instead of screaming at one another.
- I don't know if it's because of her new glasses, but I don't get why Bree didn't find out about Orson not having a job until now. I'm sure there were some clues before now and "old" Bree would have picked up on them and done some snooping to dig up the truth.
- We haven't seen much of Lynette's marketing plan for Bree's book but what Lynette presented didn't seem that good. Having been a top executive in the marketing world, Lynette should have remembered that trends change fast and that what worked yesterday may very well not work today. I'm surprised she thought that her old ideas would necessarily work now. The marketing world changed a lot in the 7ish years since she quit the business. If she plans to do some freelance work, Lynette will need to study what the market is today and what new advertising tools exist.
- Why is Mike so important in Dave's plan? Is Mike Dave's target or a means to get to his ultimate goal?
- Dave has loads of different pills. If one pill helps him calm down, what are the other pills for? And talk about a bad place to hide a briefcase filled with pills! Are the writers trying to make us believe that Edie never makes or sits on that bed?

I did not like Solis's comment about wanting his kids to believe in Santa Claus for as long as they can - we watch the show with our son who does believe in Santa Claus - but are on the fence. This certainly didn't help

Sorry to hear, but this is why the show is on at a later time. My daughter is in bed by 8. Even if I watching something that I record, I tend to either shut it off or send her in her room. You never know what will be mentioned when the show is targeted for adults.

Agreed -- I think it's great to watch more "adult" shows with your kids if you're willing to explain stuff to them that they might have questions on, and I'm not going to tell you how to raise your kids and surely don't want TV to be censored. But it's rated TV-14 for a reason.
And I too wondered why Orson can't be a dentist anymore. As long as he wasn't jailed for a drug-related crime, he'd still have his license. Then again, maybe things are different in "the Eagle State." :)

I cannot belive you would watch an adult themed show with a child of "santa believing" age. That is crazy. I find it funny that you were upset about the santa comment but you were fine with the sex scenes, sperm, and in the past cheating, violence, and the like.
To be upset over a santa comment?? Um rethink your focus.

I agree with What??? poster. A child finding out there is no Santa is far less damaging that the other stuff that happens on DH. Now way would I watch it with my child. Good grief!
But back to the show...This season is really getting a slow start. Nothing has really left me sitting on the edge of my seat. I sure hope next week is a good one.

I agree with a lot of the sentiment you're expressing about Bree and Orson. Bree just isn't fun anymore. For me, I think it was the whole baby fiasco and the way she treated her daughter in that whole process, and don't get me started on the daughter's visit with her son. Marc Cherry has often said Bree is tailored after his own mother. If that's true I feel sorry for him.
Maybe it's the easy road to take, but it seems to me Dave is the husband/father of the two who were killed in Mike and Susan's accident. It was obvious Mike and Susan weren't at fault but I could see how this would lead to a psychotic break and rage issues. If this is true, it will be interesting to find out why he chose Edie as his entrée onto Wisteria Lane.
As for Lynette, I grow to dislike this character more and more with every episode. Would a so-called friend act this way? And don't get me started on how she treats Tom. This character is a bad mother, a bad wife, and terrible friend. She has very little redeeming quality anymore.
The real loser so far this season is Dana Delany. This excellent actress is little more than background scenery this season. I would love to see a blow-up between her and Bree over the business and Katherine going off to start her own successful company.
Also, what's up with the Jackson character? While it's odd not to see Gale Harold surrounded by naked pretty boys, he's another great actor who is being used as little more than a bit player. Where's the guy who came down the stairs dressed in a suit at the end of last season?

All of Bree's anal conniving seems to be falling in her lap all at once. Hopefully she'll realize at least some of this as she hits rock bottom emotionally, which seems like it will be pretty soon.
Seeing Gabby chubby and dumpy and how she's dealing with it -- being a former diva -- was interesting for about two shows, but it's getting old. She seems to be losing some of her weight and dowdiness finally, and I'm hoping to see her spend some time and effort on trying to get her children healthier, and to behave better.
And there's been no mention of Zach; bring him back and fill us in on what he's been up to. His entire world fell apart, and everyone he should have trusted turned out to be liars, and at a very impressionable age, so his actions when he found out he was heir to a large fortune were believable, especially when his grandfather challenged/begged him to take his life. Has Zach matured and settled by now, or is he still floating around aimlessly? Is his wealth affected by the depression/stock market crash, if so, how is he handling it?
I'm still watching because I've 'bonded' with the characters, but if I had never watched it before, I wouldn't follow the show based on this season, because it's become pretty boring compared to the first few seasons.

since first season, I've always been disappointed with the "big mysteries". they're always so lame and artificial. I only enjoy one episode at a time without caring for arc stories.
