A myriad of correspondents from The Daily Show have gone on to their own careers, such as Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell to name two. Jason Jones and Samantha Bee are slated to write and star in a sitcom for CBS. Now it looks like the show will be losing Rob Riggle to a prime-time spot, also on CBS. Riggle is one of the more interesting correspondents, given his background in the U.S. Marine Corps.The Daily Show has become this generation's Saturday Night Live in the sense that many of the players move on to bigger and better TV and/or movie deals. The only reason Jon Stewart himself hasn't left is because of a lucrative contract and the fact that his name is on the marquee.
In fact, if CBS is so eager to grab people from The Daily Show, why not grab Stewart himself? Letterman won't be doing his show forever, you know. He's the natural heir to the position. In my opinion this would be a very smart move, which means it probably won't happen.

I don't care where Stewart goes, he just should not switch from the format he is currently doing. Doing a network late night show is a waste of his talents.
I hope Riggle, Bee and Jones continue to appear on the TDS as well. It will be a big loss of talent if all of them go.

I think Stewart moving to Letterman would be a horrible idea. Late night, for better or worse, has become a celebrity shill fest. While they can ask *some* questions that make people uncomfortable (Letterman being much better at this than Leno), the main thrust of the shows has become too mediocre to get away with the sometimes scathing commentary they do on the Daily Show. Jon would lose his edge if he left the Daily Show and moved to network late night.

There is no way Jon would move from the relatively complete freedom he has on Comedy Central to the strictures far more inhibiting environment of late-night network television.
Even if her were willing to give up the creative freedom he currently enjoys, I really don't think his comedic style fits the bland, stupid antics that dominate late night on the networks. He assumes his audience has a certain amount of intelligence that simply is not to be found on network television as soon as the clock strikes 11:30.
So yea, until Jon shows some glimmer of desire to move away from Comedy Central, you really should stop bringing this up, as it makes you seem incredibly foolish.

Jon Stewart had a series of forgettable talk shows and other crap before he landed on the Daily Show. I'm actually not sure if it was just one show, two shows, or a few hundreds. I do remember him having a discussion with Daisy Fuentes about her breasts and under what circumstances she would unveil them.

Some history:
1. Rob Riggle was a featured player on SNL in 2004, well before his Daily Show stint.
2. Jon Stewart *was* the heir apparent to Letterman; he subbed for him on occasion and, if I remember correctly, might have even had a development deal under Worldwide Pants. I think the relationship probably fell apart when Craig Kilborn got the Late Late Show.

I'm sorry to see Samantha Bee move on, but Riggle and Jones are the two least funny correspondents they have. They need more like John Oliver or Larry Wilmore. Big, broad, stupid comedy in the Riggle and Jones vein was out of place on that show.

Indeed. Looking forward to this Rob's series. Allow me to recommend "Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story", a DVD movie featuring both of the aforementioned Rob's. The special features on it featuring Rob Riggle are the funniest I've ever seen in my life, literally.

I think Stewart is already tapped to be Letterman's heir, it's just not the big to-do that NBC wanted Conan's coronation to be. When the time is right, Letterman will probably spring his retirement and replacement on us at his whim.
If Stewart did make the subtle switch, he'd do very well. The Daily Show, while skewing to the political, also does a lot of celebrity interviews/shillings and pokes fun at pop culture just like any late night show.
And I can only imagine the friendly rivalry between Conan and Stewart, as each show's staff and head men would push each other into providing great entertainment.
