Ever since her Saturday Night Live debut in 2005, Kristen Wiig has been stealing scenes and startling viewers with her strange, high-energy characters and performances. Despite the fact that the last few seasons have been generally mediocre, she is one of the strongest players in the cast, alongside the likes of Bill Hader and... My favorites are just Wiig and Hader, actually. Never mind. My point is, it didn't take long for Wiig to win over the audience with performances like these.
Judy Garland on Vincent Price's Thanksgiving Special: I think this was the first time Kristen Wiig really caught my eye. Her Judy Garland and Bill Hader's Vincent Price made this sketch, and I like to pretend it ended a little before Eva Longoria showed up as Lucille Ball. Now that I think about it, we could do with some more Vincent Price in this season. Everyone could always do with more Vincent Price.
The Suze Orman Show: I'm sure there are some people out there that have never heard of Suze Orman and just think that she's a made-up character for SNL. With Wiig's take on the financial expert, it's not hard to see why.
Surprise Party: For some reason, Christopher Walken's last hosting stint was not quite as amazing as his previous appearances. His low energy deliveries drained the sketches instead of selling the ol' Walken charm. Wiig's over-excited character from this sketch brought some much needed enthusiasm to this episode. Plus, it's always funny when people crash through windows.
The Japanese Office: This was an absolutely hilarious Digital Short in general, but Wiig's chipmunk giggling made things even better. More Japanese Pam Beesley, please.
Iconoclasts: Who would have guessed there would be such chemistry between Charles Barkley and Bjork? Unfortunately, this first on-screen appearance was the duo's last, as we haven't seen the odd couple since. These two are begging for a recurring sketch, even if they really have no business being together. It'd probably be worth it just to hear Barkley call her "Bork."
Penelope at Traffic School: There are no surprises in these sketches about Wiig's compulsive liar character, but it's worth watching, if only to sit in awe of her million words a minute delivery. Reading aloud that fast is just begging for an on-screen face-plant, yet Wiig never fails to deliver.
Judy Grimes on "Weekend Update": Another demonstration of Wiig's incredibly sharp, super-speed speech. The speed of Judy Grime's "just kidding, just kidding" puts Penelope's everything to shame. Also, SNL made a smart move by never bringing her back. Yes, it was hilarious, but seeing her every week would have made our nerves explode. Not kidding.
Two A-Holes Go to the Gym: This is probably one of the most formulaic character sketches on the show today, but the inexplicable charm of Wiig and Jason Sueikis's characters keep us coming back for more.
Jamie Lee-Curtis and Activia: Yogurt that makes you poop is inherently funny. I think we can all agree on that. Throw in Wiig as Jamie Lee-Curtis and everyone is set. Now, if only we could get rid of that Ashton Kutcher guy...
Michelle Dison: I have a soft spot for cringe-worthy characters, so I loved Michelle Dison's creepy attempts to flirt with her interviewees. The subtle, nervous little moments in Wiig's speech add an extra layer of super-awkward.
All right, I could go on forever about fantastic Wiig is, but limiting myself to ten items is good for all of us. What are your favorite Wiig moments on SNL?

I've got to second the Target Lady. One reason is that her character reminds me of one of my fellow Target cashiers when I was a senior in high school 4 years ago. Also, because I did the almost the exact same thing Target Lady does (except I would wait till my 10 minute break):
"Oh, where did you find these (objects)?!"
-"Oh, they're right over there by the-"
(Target lady leaves)

It's hard to beat Surprise Party! "Oh ... My ... God!"
I've never really liked Two A-Holes. I probably would have dropped that in favor of Aunt Linda's movie reviews. "Gah!"

Not sure then. I had to watch them on the SNL site. They're all there except the Michelle Dison one.

"she is one of the strongest players in the cast"
Seriously? What is the tvsquad obsession with the woman my wife and I have come to call "the black hole of comedy"... when she shows up on screen the funny is just sucked away never to be seen again.
When Kristin Wiig shows up on screen, that's when I head to the kitchen for a cold beverage and snacks. I'd rather watch commercials than watch her.
So is so pathetically UNfunny, that I can't even conceive that you would think she's "one of the strongest"... she's the weakest person on the entire show, IMHO.

Wiig is the best person to join the cast since Will Ferrell and one of the best women ever to appear on the show. I'd put her right up there with all-timers like Gilda Radner and Jan Hooks.

Judy Grimes was brought back once. She originated last season and came back this season, I think.
I loved her in the Virginia Horsen's Hot Air Balloon Rides fake commercials. She played a slightly camera-shy/hesitant saleswomen with another odd, hilarious line delivery, and she danced awkwardly in front of green screens.

The Surprise Party was my favorite sketch from last year, I was dying when I first watched it. All of her characters are just so great though. I love that they are all manic and neurotic, its a good combo.
"Virginia Horsen's Hot Air Balloons" was great, the timing on that sketch was painfully hilarious.
And i agree with Lee the Target Lady and Aunt Linda are awesome as well.

I am a hardcore SNL fan. I've watched diligently for years, even cringing through the rough episodes. Wiig is by far the strongest person in the cast right now. I love everything she does. Even when the rest of the show isn't that funny, she shines.
Btw she has done Judy Grimes twice.

YES!! Great Post! I share the same thoughts regarding Wiig! She is so funny and her Judy Garland (which I had never seen) is spot on.
Wiig's energy reminds me of Cheri O'Teri from the 90's..
