Jonathan told you earlier this summer that there would be a Deadwood DVD set coming at the end of the year. I bet you didn't know it was going to be 19 discs. The Deadwood complete series set will house all three seasons on those 19 discs, and it will come with a rather large booklet guide to the show as well. But that isn't the big news. The big news is that the set will include among its two hours of extras a feature titled "The Meaning of Endings," which will be a detailed explanation of what would have happened to the characters had HBO not canceled the show.
This is both fantastic news for fans of the show but at the same time probably a disappointment. Sure, it's always fun to find out what would have happened on a show that was canceled, but this feature means we won't see those two Deadwood movies that HBO and Milch had hinted at last year. Oh well. You can't have everything.
This gives me an idea though. How about a big DVD set that contains interviews and commentaries with the people who worked on various shows that ended too early? The casts and crews of Journeyman and John Doe and other shows can all be interviewed and the creators can talk about what they had planned for the shows. Maybe call the set "To Be Continued..." or "After The Last Episode" or something similar.

this hurts too much to think about it. hbo sucks for going with 'john from cincinnati' over 'deadwood'. if it weren't for 'entourage', who would be watching hbo now anyway?

HBO canceled the show, but they offered to make an ending. Milch walked away to do that stupid surf show. HBO wanted to make an ending and he walked away. Screw him AND screw HBO.

Canceling Deadwood was one of the last straws for me even though I was one of the few that enjoyed John from Cinci. Either way it prompted me to cancel HBO.

HBO were fools to cancel Deadwood. It really hurt their reputation. They claim they are not TV they are HBO. Canceling Deadwood was a TV move.

Deadwood is one of the most amazing shows ever and should have lasted for several more seasons, not just a couple of movies or a fourth season. The above post is correct, it was a TV move. Entourage and Flight of the Concords is all that keeps me watching HBO. Their dramas are shit now and HBO brass obviously has no idea what they are doing anymore...
