Gossip Girl: New Haven Can Wait

Gossip Girl(S02E06) "It isn't a game." - Blair to Serena

Game or not, the war between Blair and Serena intensified to a point that both ladies got in a huge hair-pulling fight (see picture on the right). We have seen Blair and Serena say and do really nasty things over the past year but this week, they tapped into their evilest and nastiest of lines and actions (especially Blair when bringing up the "Serena killed someone" bit) in order to end up on top. If both ladies were somewhat at the top of their game, then why was I so bored when watching "New Haven Can Wait"?

I think one of the reasons why I was bored is because the episode, besides for what happened to Jenny, didn't bring much to the table. Since there are months to go between now and the characters' first year at Yale/Brown/or else, what happened this week doesn't mean much for the main characters. Blair isn't on the Dean's list? So what? She's an intelligent Waldorf and will surely get in. Even if Serena is on the Dean's list, that doesn't mean she will go to Yale. And so on for Dan, Nate and Chuck.

I prefer seeing Serena and Blair as friends but I think their friendship got renewed way too fast. One second they are nemesis and the next they are BFFs. What gives? I don't buy that everything is bubbly and pink all of a sudden. As if both girls will forget the major backstabbing that went on lately! It would surprise me that they have some honeymoon phase followed by one of them remembering what the other did and using it to her advantage.

Jenny needs to send flowers to Lily for helping change Rufus's mind. Rufus may have called it quits with Lily but he still values her opinion a lot (and he still loves her even if he doesn't want to admit it). So hearing Lily say that Jenny has talent and having her remind him that he had dreams as a teen made Rufus change his mind about home schooling. This twist in the storyline can offer some nice plots for Little Miss J. How will she handle a demanding workload and home school? Will she be able to keep her promise to Rufus? Will she be temped by the dark side? What will it mean for a status with the other characters?

How unsurprising to have Chuck be more interested in Yale secret society than in Yale itself. It wasn't that original either for him to throw Dan under the bus instead of Nate. Even if Nate ended up in siding with Dan, I would have loved to see the rift created between Nate and Chuck if the latter gave up Nate as requested. I hope that we see Chuck use his power over the secret society sooner rather than later. How will he use them to his advantage? Could it be that he'll enlist their help in securing a place at Yale for Blair? I'm pretty sure they have connections with the Yale Powers that Be.

Did you pick up on Lily's comment about Eric having a new friend? I foresee that Eric has a new boyfriend, not a new friend...
