(S05E03) "This guy is up to something." - McCluskey about Dave
There were much better lines said in this week's episode than the one I just put above (more on those lines later). However, what McCluskey said is what has been interesting me the most since the season premiere: what is Dave really up to. We get that he doesn't like McCluskey at all and that he is trying to befriend everyone on Wisteria Lane. But what is his ultimate game plan? Who is he really after and why? These questions, and the fact that Dave is so creepy and well played by actor Neal McDonough, help keep me glued to my TV during Desperate Housewives and make me think that Dave's storyline may turn out to be as good as, if not better, than Katherine's storyline last season.
Let's face it, Desperate Housewives has done a bad job of introducing new characters we were supposed to care about (*cough* the Applewhites *cough*). However, Katherine and Dave have been fantastic additions to the show. I don't know what has gotten into Marc Cherry since last season's premiere, but the show is definitely getting better and better from my point of view. Dave is really intriguing and the lines and actions McDonough has to say are so well written and delivered that I'm actually freaked out when he is on screen.
Dave shows great planning skills. He knows he must befriend his neighbors to reach his goal, so he studies them and infiltrates their lives in a sneaky way. One could have thought that Dave offered to jam with Tom only so he could have a male friend on Wisteria Lane. But after hearing Dave's speech to Lynette about midlife crisis and how she should give him the new bass guitar, it was clear Dave's plan needs him to befriend Tom (or at least a few of the Wisteria Lane guys). And McCluskey better watch her back because Dave will be more than ever on her case! I wonder what he'll do to push his "McCluskey is starting to suffer from dementia" theory.
Having been a fan of Desperate Housewives since I saw the unaired version of the pilot before the series premiere, I'm not proud of not having picked on the fact that Dave has a last name we have heard on the show before. But thanks to TV Guide, I was put on the right path. Creepy Dave shares the same last name as Creepy Pharmacist George. Yep, both extremely evil and manipulative men are named Williams. Coincidence or not? If not and that they are brothers, could it be that Dave is really after Bree for George's death? What do you think about this theory? Do you have one of your own? Let your voice be heard in comments below.
Other tidbits of interest:
- People complained about the fact we didn't all of the Scavo kids in the premiere. Can I complain about the fact the Solises only have one child now?
- I'm getting tired of Lynette using her children to get what she wants. It's not the first time (and I doubt it'll be the last), she does so. Okay, she didn't do it that often but still... I always rooted for Lynette and Tom has being one of TV's best couple but if Lynette doesn't stop going around her problems and using her kids instead of facing the issues face on, I won't root for them anymore. I can't believe she let Penny take all the blame (and she probably got yelled at and grouned) for the trashing of the guitar.
- I didn't care much about the Juanita bullying MJ storyline. However, I must admit it gave us some fun moments (see quotes below) and allowed us to see Jackson and Mike bond a bit more. I'm starting to like seeing both of them together because of the mutual teasing and hope they'll both join the Desperate Househusbands band!
- Bree and Orson definitely need couples' therapy. Last week's episode ended on an awkward note between the two of them and this week's showed that they have more issues to deal with. Orson blames Bree for losing Ben. I'm with Bree on this. Since Danielle cleaned up her act, got married to a lawyer and is Ben's mother, a judge would have given Danielle full custody of Ben. No matter who is right or wrong, if Orson and Bree want their couple to work, they will need to stop pretending things are allright and tackle the problems head on.
Great quotes:
"He is only six and he is already reading at a third grade level." - Danielle about Ben
"What happens next year when he over takes you?" - Bree
"Juanita is fat for your age." - Susan to Gaby about 5-year-old Juanita
"Since I realized meat is a by product of muder." - Danielle answering Bree's question as to why she was now a vegetarian
"Your daddy is about to turn you into a killing machine." - Susan to MJ
"If it wears a skirt, it's off limits." - Mike about not teaching MJ to defend himself against Juanita
"It's like tofu, only better." - Ben after tasting his first hot dog
"They call me white trask." - Edie after seeing Susan and Gaby battle it off on the lawn
"You gave him meat and you asked him to lie?" - Danielle to Bree after seeing pieces of meat in Ben's vomit
"You are not losing $300. You sare learning a valuable lesson." - Andrew to an angry Gaby who wants him to pay for the car repairs

I don't want to see another season where it's all about bree. Since the second season she is always the one whose there for the resolution of the season mystery. First: the Applewhites, then Orson's mom and again with Katherine last year. Let another housewife have the chance. Btw is gabby ever going to find out about andrew running over her mother- in-law.I was thinking Just give her the car you killed her mother in law.

Incredibly entertaining episode! When Dave was talking to Lynette, I was hanging on every word. What truth. His character swings from doing good things for people to emanating the creepiest vibes.
I am definitely sympathizing with the Husbands much more this season. Lynette is just evil.

Yes, Bree and Orson need couples therapy, but I think we should also mention her behavior toward Danielle. I'm sorry but I was not on Bree's side this time. I think she was completely over the line in her comments and actions toward Danielle. She just cannot accept that Danielle has grown up, cleaned up her act, and that Danielle has the right to raise her son in the way she and her husband see fit. That I understand as part of Bree's personality, but her actions just did not ring true to me. Since when does Bree, the penultimate housewife and cook, endorse hot dogs!!!!! After getting her daughter and grandson back, would she jeopardize it like that for a hot dog?? The old Bree would have been a lot more subtle.

I agree...I thought the Bree/hot dog thing was so out of character for her. And Lynette has become very controlling. It surely wasn't a great episode. I do like Juanita...She cracks me up!
