After a few weeks of rumors, denials, and "will she or won't she" talk, it looks like Governor Sarah Palin is finally set to appear on NBC's Saturday Night Live. The Alaskan Governor and VP candidate will appear on the October 25 episode, according to Cindy Adams at The New York Post. If that wasn't exciting enough, this is the same episode that Jon Hamm will host, so I bet we can look forward to a Mad Men parody. Wouldn't it be great if Palin could appear in that sketch? Maybe she could play Joan Holloway. The mind reels.
Of course, she'll probably appear in the cold open, I'm guessing alongside Tina Fey and her fake Palin, similar to the time that Hillary Clinton appeared alongside Amy Poehler and gave her tips on how to play her.
I wonder if Palin will change the opening to the show and say something like "LIVE FROM GODLESS NEW YORK, HOME OF THE MEDIA ELITE, IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!"

I know I'll get blasted for this from the right, but I don't care.
This is a mistake that actually makes me physically ill and it shows just how far our country has sunk - this woman who wants to be the backup for the most powerful person in the world won't give an actual national press conference with real reporters asking questions she hasn't been prepared for in advance, yet she's going to be on a live comedy show?
Is this what the American people, who need to be an informed electorate in order to make wise decisions when selecting who will govern our country, really need?
hell no.
hell no.
unreal. this woman is a joke. Lorne Michaels has sold his soul for ratings. Say hi to McCain's soul while you're there, Lorne.

I soooooooooo agree. I am absolutely mortified at the idea of her in the VP chair. For the life of me I cannot fathom anyone voting for McCain/Palin.

By the time that SNL episode rolls around she'll only have about a week of fame left before everyone forgets about her again.

Palin will remain extremely popular among conservatives even after she loses on Nov 4. She may end up as a Gingrich-like counterpoint to every issue Obama deals with between now and the next election. That lady isn't going anywhere.

Uhm, you do realize what a denigrating comment that is to Newt Gingrich? Whatever you can say about the man's politics, he is a smart guy, and a brilliant politician. Palin is neither intelligent, nor politically astute in the kind of long-term way Gingrich was. Palin will fade out of the national spotlight after Nov. 4, and head back up north where she belongs.

Oh, also... how long before she agrees to pose for Playboy? Not long, I'm guessing...

Wow. it was funny when Dole was on SNL... it was funny when McCain was on... it was till funny when the candidates were on SNL this spring. But I agree with you guys, while it might be funny for her to be on, it just doesn't sit right. This just reeks of her going for the celebrity, and still avoiding the serious journalism. Of course this means that because of the network equal time thing, that Joe Biden will have to make an appearance some time before the election doesn't it.

Getting to me how? It's not her, man, it's the country that's getting to me - I can respond to Randy below as well... She refuses/is not allowed to give an unscripted press conference. This is unprecedented in our national politics.
What makes me ill is that the incredibly serious role of the vice president of the united states, one of the most powerful nations in the world, has about a 50% chance of being filled by someone that has not had to answer to the press corps, yet will appear on a fluffy entertainment show. Like I said, completely unprecedented.
Randy, my point isn't that she shouldn't do it, it's that she would do this, what will probably amount to a walk on role for a few laughs, before she would get in front of the press and answer questions that she hasn't been given first. Hillary, Biden, Obama, and McCain have all given press conferences in the past, why is Sarah not held to the same standard?
Which is why I came to my earlier conclusion that this woman is a joke. She was picked by whoever told McCain to pick simply to rally the base, which he has long had problems with, which is why I came to the conclusion that he sold his soul, if not at least his integrity.
So she's not particularly effective in "getting to" me, Patrick, that really wasn't my point before. From an electoral/political standpoint, her being effective in getting to me would mean that she made me consider voting for the Republican ticket, no?
Hardly the case here, as I'm sure you can tell.

You are all such a bunch of hypocrites. If it was Obama you'd be chomping at the bit with excitement. Meanwhile, he won't even issue his damned birth certificate in the face of a lawsuit that could be over and done with in about 30 seconds just by producing it.
They all do and say stupid things and spin the truth. It's call politics people. They are all doing it.

Why is it being a hypocrite? If Obama didn't talk to the press, I would say the same thing. I think McCain has been frekin' hilarious on SNL, but I've also seen him interviewed ad nauseum. The whole Palin thing has been mishandled by the RNC, it could have gone a lot better for them and for her. SNL is just taking advantage of the situation for laughs and ratings.
