Desperate Housewives: We're So Happy You're So Happy

Desperate Housewives(S05E02) "I think I just heard the milk go bad." - Andrew to Bree and Orson

That line Andrew said to escape an uncomfortable situation was funny but not that important in the overall episode. However, many Desperate Housewives characters could have said it this week as all of them found themselves in situations they would have preferred not to be in.

Susan had to face the fact that the men in her life met one another. Gaby tried to maintain her social status but ended up being the laugh of the party (well, Carlos was). An overworked and stressed Bree had to cook for a neglected and fed up Orson. McCluskey had to apologize the Edie in order to get her cat back. While Lynette signed a breaking up email with the words "Love, Mom." Ouch!

The episode was filled with uncomfortable scenes that were interesting to watch unfold. We all knew that Lynette's spying on Porter would end up with him having a crush on his mom's Internet teen persona. What we didn't know is what the road to that ending would reveal. Who knew that troubled teen Porter had a heart? He and his twin used to be brats and last week's premiere made us think that nothing had changed. I wonder if Preston loves poetry too?

I have a question for you about Lynette. Is it me or is Felicity Huffman still wearing a wig? In this episode and last week's, her hair has been bothering me. It looks fake. If it is indeed a wig, I wonder why the actress must wear one. If Felicity Huffman's hairstyle is different than what Lynette was sporting five years ago, why not have her show her real hair instead of wearing a wig? Five years have passed people, Lynette could have colored and cut her hair!

I enjoyed Susan's storyline this week. After watching last week's episode, I hoped that the writers wouldn't keep Jackson hidden for too long. Luckily, he met Mike, Carl and M.J. this week. So all of Susan's men know one another. I'm looking forward to more Mike and Jackson time. Maybe more earlobe stories too? It would have been funny if the episode ended with Jackson going out of Susan's home while Julie arrived and the other housewives looked on.

Poor Gaby. Even if she has Carlos, her kids, a nice home, and her friends, Gaby did lose a lot. Yes, she lost mostly materialistic things (money, status) but I think she lost herself too. She will never be truly happy until she regains part of her old life. I'm sure she still loves Carlos a lot and that she enjoys being a mom, but Gaby needs more than that. Sadly for Gaby, her sneaking in the party will make it harder for her to regain her social status...

Last week, I said that I suspected Dave was out to get McCluskey. I'm not sure anymore that she is the "someone who needs to be afraid" that Dave was talking about. But one thing is sure, she should be afraid. The guy has great manipulating skills and seems to be ready to do everything and everything to reach his goal. Granted he only stole a cat (I'm pretty sure he did it even if we don't know for sure), but I'm sure he can do worse. And what about Dave seizing up McCluskey after a minute inside her home?! Not only is he a great manipulator but he also has an eye for details. If Shawn Spencer or Patrick Jane need a partner, Dave is the man to call.

The most awkward scene of the week is definitely the one where Bree cries as she cooks the pot roast. I totally understand that Orson is fed up of being ignored, neglected and hidden ("My husband is dead."). Bree, being too busy with the book, doesn't see that her husband is hurting. Bree and Orson used to be a couple to be reckoned with but now, not so much. It's Bree and Andrew now. Orson did push the envelope far by ordering her to cook the meal she promised, but maybe it was what Bree needed to see how Orson is hurting. For sure, if she doesn't take better care of him, he'll go look elsewhere. I'm pretty sure single Katherine would be more than happy to romance Orson if it means hurting Bree. Only time will tell.
