I wanted to stay away from all of this "where is the review of..." ranting but I think its finally gotten to a point where I am going to throw my opinion out there.
I know times are tough for all sorts of different industries. No one is buying advertising right now and its tough to keep writers on staff when there is little to no money coming in. You want to know how you fix that problem?? You dont keep half of these writers on staff.
I hate to single people out but... what exactly does Brad Trechak offer that you couldnt get a hundred different readers/fans to do? Does Isababelle Carreau offer some deep insight to Gossip Girl that the average watcher just cant comprehend. This site (and others like it) needs to move to 90% user submitted content if it wants to continue being a top option for tv commentary. This site (and the economy) is going to pull through these tough times, but, if you lose too much of your fanbase (and all of your p1's) to other sites its going to be an uphill battle once that advertising money starts coming back in.
All this site needs to run is a couple of web people to get the design down and an editor or two to go through submitted reviews and choose which one should make the front page (others would be relegated to a secondary page or linked to at the bottom). Moving in a direction like this would not only help keep costs down it would drive in new traffic everyday as Tom Blogger emails all his friends telling them to check out his review which got "published". It would also give a fresh outlook to many shows/reviews that loyal fans now stay away from because they do not agree or are tired of the same 3 points being drilled in by the reviewer that has handled the show for 2+ seasons.
(I'm also sorry for posting this up twice. Since the what to watch on sunday post doesnt get much traffic on monday i plan on reposting this once tonights WTW comes up.)
