As several of you have noticed, we had a decrease in the number of posts recently at TV Squad, and we apologize for any concern or confusion that resulted. Part of that slowdown stemmed from some behind-the-scenes issues, which have now been resolved. And part of it came about because Keith and I wanted to take some time to talk about the direction of the blog with our writers and with our hosts at AOL.During those discussions, we thought about what people like the most about us: the comprehensive episode reviews and the funny, thoughtful commentary about the shows we love. Over time, the site has become very heavy on the former and light on the latter, and we decided that we need to get things back in balance.
So, starting today, the evolution of TV Squad starts in earnest. Don't worry; it'll largely be the same as the site that you've enjoyed for the last three-and-a-half years, but the content will be a little tighter and a little more opinionated than it has been in the past.
The first change is that, as you may have already noticed, we will be doing a more limited set of episode reviews week in and week out. But that doesn't mean that we won't comment on shows we're not reviewing. On the contrary; this should free up our writers to comment on any show they want, not just the ones they've reviewed past. If someone wants to mention something about Smallville, for instance, they can.
We won't leave fans of shows stranded, though; in the near future, we will have a place for fans to discuss episodes of their favorite shows, whether we review them or not. Any blog lives and dies with its commenters, and we want to make sure that they continue the conversation for as long as they feel like it.
Another change you'll see over the next few months is that we will publish features that go more in-depth than they have in the past. Sure, the lists and other light features will stick around; they're fun and give readers a source of debate. But feature packages such as our recent history of reality TV have been well-received and very satisfying for our bloggers to do; you'll see more of those going forward.
What else will you see? Hard to say. We're going to try some things out and see what works and what doesn't. Like I said, this is an evolution, not a wholesale change. What we hope is that you folks stay with us while we make TV Squad a more dynamic and fun reading experience.
OK, I'm ready for the onslaught (heh). Any comments, complaints, and wonderations should be posted below. I'll answer your questions as best as I can over the next few days.

Thank you very much for clearing the issues up. It was very disheartening to know that something was going on, and not have it be addressed. I have been reading your blogs for over a year now, and this is my favorite site due mostly to the witty commentary. I already watched the tv show, so I don't feel the need for a blow by blow recap of the show. So I will definitely be around for the ride to come!

Just because you don't watch soaps doesn't mean that other people don't.

Sure, but if TV Squad is going to be picky about what content they cover, it seems like Soaps would be something that could be covered in much less depth. There are how many Soap sites out there, but TV Squad is about Drama (comedy and serious).
In the same vein, talking much less about reality shows would be appreciated. (Yes, I know about the reality-free feed, but it seems like you will have more resources to spend reviewing good, quality shows that people care about if you spend less time on reality)

Have I been missing a bunch of soap commentaries? I see maybe a couple a month. And what makes reality crap any better than soaps? I say write about what piques the writer's interest - that's what makes for witty, compelling reading.

U say keep the soap stuff coming, its more apart of TV than most things on the air today. The longest running TV programs are soaps.

I look forward to see how TV Squad (hopefully) improves. Let me note though that perhaps BEFORE the new season started would have been a better time for this introspection.

I agree. It was oddly timed...
But since you are making some improvements/changes ... any tallk about bringing Bridget back?? Don't get me wrong, we enjoy most if not all of your writers, but having a face to go along was great. Yes, yes, we see her on YouTube but it isn't quite the same as the daily dose that we've enjoyed here in the past. Hey, its worth asking...

I'm reminded of the old adage "If it aint broke, don't fix it", but unlike Sarah Palin, I don't have an issue with evolution so I'll look forward to seeing how the site develops. I have noticed some bloggers posting comments on shows they haven't reviewed and I like seeing those additional points of view. Just don't mess with Jackie Schnoop's writing style and I'll stick around. And thanks for finally addressing this.

Wow, I totally thought this site was going away. I'm glad it's just an evolution and not an extinction.

Johnzo, unfortunately, we don't have any plans to do that right now. Probably because the list will be in flux in this early part of the season.

If it keeps you from turning into the horror show that is "Television Without Pity", then I'm all for it.

Please, tell us which shows are getting the "Review Axe", apart from Smallville and Supernatural? (Remember those, TV Squad?)

Yea. Supernatural especially deserves the weekly review. It is as good as it ever was, and the best show on CW.

The traffic numbers for those two shows -- Supernatural, especially -- really don't justify our continuing to do the reviews for them. It's as simple as that. I appreciate that the fans of those shows are really vocal; it's just that there aren't enough of you reading the reviews. And, yes, I know this sounds familiar (see Jericho, CBS).
