(S05E01) "She's back!" - Lynette about Edie
Even if most of the Desperate Housewives fans knew well in advance that there would be a five-year jump in the season finale, many were left wondering what the hell would happen next. One of the questions Desperate Housewives fans wanted answered most was what made Susan and Mike divorce. Luckily for fans, we've got a pretty good idea what broke Susan and Mike up in this week's season premiere.
Personally, I was one of those Desperate Housewives fans who embraced the five-year jump. I saw it as a way to rejuvenate the series, offer new storylines and get rid of the Kinsman twins. The series premiere delivered on all three counts.
The five-year jumped allowed the writers to move each character forward and offer us new mysteries and flashbacks to chew on. It's clear that this season's main mystery will be why someone should be worried about Dave and who that person is. I think the latter is Mrs. McCluskey and that's somehow she's part of the reason why he has rage issues. It wouldn't surprise me if we learn that Dave used to live on Wisteria Lane and that he married Edie to have a reason to move back there and seek revenge. Even if we only saw Dave for about 10 minutes this week, I find his character intriguing and look forward to seeing more of him and his control over Edie.
Other mysteries will be: Susan and Mike's divorce, Danielle taking Ben back and Bree giving Orson another chance. "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow" showed us that Susan and Mike broke up because of the car accident; they didn't deal with the event the same way and didn't understand why the other one didn't feel the same. Even if their breakup is not a real mystery, I'm looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds in the flashbacks. It will also be interesting to see how Danielle got her life back on track, how Bree lived without Ben and how she forgave Orson and took him back (it's probably because she felt lonely but there must be more to that story).
I'm glad that the five-year jump allowed the show to get rid of the Kinsman twins because they are not really good actors. However the twin teens who replaced them are not that much better actors. I'm willing to cut them some slack because having the Scavo kids be teens brings new storylines to the series and offers fun scenes between Lynette and Tom.
If you read my reviews last year, you may recall that I was ready to write off Gabby and Carlos because their storyline was boring. Soccer-mom Gabby is fun to watch so I'm happy that the couple was not written off. Juanita is also another nice addition to the cast. I'm looking forward to seeing Gabby go through pregnancies and what happened for her, a former model, to let her kids go fat.
And what to say about Katherine and Bree other than delicious as always!

My mom seemed to think that Dave was the father+husband of the mom and child that died in the car accident with Susan and Mike.
Which seemed to be the case, but then i remember he said one person instead of two. So... who knows. xD.
Overall, I enjoyed the season premiere, and i look forward to seeing what new developments will be going on.

LOVED.
IT.
This is how you reboot a show!
Too tired to go into it, just wanted to say that last season Bree told Orson that if he went to jail for running over Mike she would wait for him. Looks like she did and got all the more harsh and colder for it.

What about Dave being related to the people in the car and wanting to go after the driver? Mike or Susan? Because he said it was one person who had to worry.

Yeah, I don't think it's Mike and Susan because of the "one person" thing. Plus McCluskey's scenes were somewhat unnecessary this week unless she turns out to be the one who should be worried. What purpose did she serve this week besides introducing herself to Dave and saying she was Edie's best friend?

I thoroughly enjoyed it all. I am loving the 5 yr jump. It's kind of like getting to know new characters in a way. And the flashbacks are going to be tons of fun to see how they all ended up where they are now.
Susan has always been my least favorite character, so I hope my opinion changes. I always thought Mike should have been with someone who wasn't so needy.
Gabbie driving the car & making Juanita chase her...Oh my goodness! I was a chubby kid & felt sorry for her. But I loved her getting on the bus. She is going to be a fun character to watch. She's adorable.
This is going to be one juicy season, I can just feel it!

Didn't the Scavos have a daughter, too? Not the spawn of Satan "Omen Baby" that was sent away last year... didn't they have a daughter of their own? If so... where is she?

The Scavos did have a daughter... Penny I think. They also had another son, possibly Parker? something like that- I wonder if we will see more of them, or if they just went up the stairs, never to return...
I also would like to see what happened with Susans daughter and Katherines too.

I hate the Scavos...when that tornado hit Ms. McCusky's house, I thought they were gone. That was a good two weeks...oh well...
I hope Carlos has a breakthrough, because this blind storyline is getting old.
Susan, for once, wasn't falling over everything--if, you don't count that poor lady's car. I enjoyed watching her flex her drama chops.
Bree...still my girl. Just flawless.
I reject Edie and Katherine...they are not to be considered equal.

For those who asked questions about the other Scavo kids, Julie and Dylan, I can tell you that all will pop up sometime this fall. We will see more of of the Scavo kids though than the girls.

The Scarvos had 2 other kids....what happened to them? Can't imagine why they think viewers will except that they just dissapeared.

Terri,
A lot of episodes only have one or two of the children, only occasionally do we see all of them together. The parts were recast for older kids, so you'll get to see them! They didn't disappear.

Def loved the premiere last night and was in total shock when Mike was alive. I remember reading that he was still on the show, but that doesnt mean they can have flashbacks. She def needs to find another man b/c hes not at all attractive in my book. BTW, I believe Susan mentioned the car accident took place 3 yrs ago, but when did Mike and Susan break up? Anyone have an idea?
Def glad to see new Scavo twins and was wondering what happend to the other two. We know Tom's girl got sent away.
Gabby pretty funny...she let herself go but still driving around in a nice convertible. I dont like her daughter...okay..maybe the character.
Love Bree and I loved all the flashbacks. Will be interesting to watch how everything unfolded. BTW...is Bree's son working for her or something?

I think the story line of the "fat" child is sick. Anyone who has had a fat child knows how heart breaking it is for the child. Fat children are made fun of by other children and are really not excepted. On the mothers view it is so hard to buy clothes and try to have your child accepted. Believe me I am sure I am not alone on this and I think it is really insenative of the writers. Would you do what Eva did and have your kid ride along your car? Yes is all for TV but I think it SUCKS and really over the line with all the overweight people in the world why pick on a kid?

marcia, maybe it will help parents who are going through the same problem deal with their fat children. Or maybe it'll help other parents teach their children not to pick on them.
However, its apparent that she's not a healthy girl, and even at age 4, she needs to change habits. Forget about weight - think of it as a health thing and maybe you'll accept the storyline more. Remember also that Gabby is the most superficial woman in the world, so the fact that she's in this position is going to be a real maturing moment for her, as she learns to accept her daughter, and her new self.
I'm not feeling the new Dave character.
I've always liked the Scavos. I'm very dissapointed in Bree though - she and Katherine are PARTNERS and she acts like she's always in charge...

Where were the other Scavo kids? Penny should be about the same age as the twins were last season and I think the oldest boy (Preston, Potter, or Parker) is like the father aka a nerd. I think the oldest is Preston because both the other names end in 'er.'

This show just Jumped the SHARK!!!
All my wife could say was... "WTF was that?"
I guess when you've run out of ideas for a popular show it's easiest to just reinvent the characters by doing a time jump.
Lazy. That's all I can think of to summarize the production of this show. Will it all be a dream at the end of the season? Maybe the writers will have enough ideas to pick up where last season left off by then.
This show is doomed.
