As everyone knows, there are no new ideas in Hollywood. So, it's no surprise TV is looking to the past for future new shows.Variety reports that The Partridge Family is getting a "tongue-in-cheek, modern-day" remake. A former Cashmere Mafia writer is on board and insiders say the project will be getting a network deal soon.
Meanwhile, E! Online has scoop from former Melrose Place star Lisa Rinna that the soapy drama might follow in 90210's footsteps at the CW, though that network denies the rumor.
This season is especially nostalgic, with 90210, Knight Rider, Cupid and apparently Streets of San Francisco all returning to television. But TV show remakes can be hit (Battlestar Galactica) or miss (Bionic Woman) -- with the latter being more likely.
I'm looking forward to Cupid because it never really got a decent chance, but it seemed far too soon for 90210 and Knight Rider. Plus, both shows were too iconic. All the buzz around 90210, for instance, has been around the original's characters/actors.
Would Partridge Family and Melrose Place make good remakes? Should Hollywood leave them well enough alone?

What's the matter with these networks, can't they come up with anything creative anymore that they have to recreate old shows that usually don't make it?! They can't even keep the new shows they put on for one season that millions of people like.

The pictures you used suggest one idea for the Partridge Family: substitute Heather Locklear for Shirley Jones as the mother. I'd tune in for at least the first episode to see that. :-)

And no review this week to at least mention how horrible The first ep of Knight Rider was? The pilot was better. This KIT as a transformer was almost embarrassing.

Your absolutely right, it is a total embarrassment, this remake does not work.

They already tried Partridge Family via reality show to cast. Remember? Teddy Geiger tried out for the role of Keith. It was completely cast and nothing happened.
There are some shows (and movies) that should never be attempted again. Especially when it's done "tongue in cheek." Just because it was decades ago doesn't mean it was crap. That annoys me. They rarely get it right. There is no way they will EVER capture the magic that was The Partridge Family (trust me, I had David Cassidy on every square inch of my bedroom walls).
