The Emmy Awards telecast may have been a bit on the Some of the best dish to be served came courtesy of former (or is it current?) Lost star Daniel Dae Kim, who all but assured EW.com's Michael Ausiello that fans of the show have not seen the last of Jin -- though his character was (spoiler alert!) seemingly blown to smithereens in last season's finale.
Talking about the show's fifth season, set to hit ABC in January, Kim said, "My character's fate is up in the air a little bit, but I think if you keep watching, you'll be rewarded."
When asked if he'd been to Hawaii to film any episodes, he laughed: "I just came from Hawaii yesterday ... One could interpret that as [a good sign]." Whether or not that means Jin is still alive or will just appear in flashbacks (or flash-forwards or flash-sideways) remains to be seen.
Also on the Lost front, Emily de Ravin confirmed to Ausiello that Claire will be MIA for ALL of Season 5. That's right, Jack's half-sis is getting an extended hiatus, but assures fans that she will return for Lost's sixth season.

This show is so hard to keep up with (for a casual fan like me) over the Summer. I barely remember what happened in the finale!

time in lost is not linear. he died when we saw him die, and he will be dead in all scenes that take place after that, but that doesn't mean we won't see him in scenes from before the explosion.

He was coming from Hawaii because he had to appear in court for his DWI charge. And we all know what happens when Lost actors get DWI charges...

We didn't see him die, we saw the boat blow up.
Everyone just thinks he is dead, maybe he transported himself back to the island.

You sounded sane up until the part where you assume he transported himself.
This isn't Heroes Oreo. You have to stay within the rules of the show. Nobody on this show was ever able to do anything paranormal without technological or island assistance.
You should've put it different, maybe "The island transported him off". But most likely I would've contested even that.

I'm sure he's alive, but this story doesn't confirm it. Although "rewarded" doesn't sound like confirmation of a body.
He'll be in flashbacks before they return to the island, and will be tearfully reunited with Sun when the '6' return. He was last seen on the deck of the ship, near the edge, a little while before the boat blew up. If he jumped into the water, he could easily end up washing back onto shore like he did before (assuming the teleport extended in a distance around the island, which would make sense).
Boy, Jin just doesn't have the best luck with boats.

Honestly, I think Claire's storyline is too huge to just write her off for a season. Since the first season we've wondered about her child, and still have no answers. Or tidbits of answers to come. And we found they are brother and sister and nada. She shows up with dead dad and nada. That sucks.

That's because the 5th season won't...
Spoilers.....
...take place on the island as much, it's more of a mainland season it seems.

Huge revelation Oreo. *clap* How'd you manage to come to that conclusion? Add 1 and 1 and got a two? Wow.
*spoiler*
Of course there will be more storylines off the island. That's not even a spoiler. In the season finale they caught up with the off-island timeline of the Oceanic six AND showed us how those six left the island AND the island got moved.
In the "future", they now have to find a way to find the island. They need to get back to help their friends. Finding the island took Penny _years_ and her father was unable to manage to do it for _decades_.
So yeah - there will be more stuff happening off the island, namely EVERYTHING that concerns the Oceanic six and Widmore as well as most likely Dharma.
Funny enough we'll now have the on-island storyline that will catch up to the present (turning everything around), because we need to know what it was that is so bad that the six need to get back and what did to Locke that put him where he was in the season finale.
So the former future is now the present most likely, because I bet my ass more on-screen-time will focus on the Six than on what's going on on the island (there are not that many protagonists left on the island to tell enough story there).
The former present, on the island, will be the past, catching up.
Not that much of a revelation. Just common sense.
And with only 16 episodes per season and Sun now having her father by the balls in the new present, there will be lots and lots of opportunities for Jin to show up in flashbacks.
I'm not sure whether he's dead, but I won't bet on him being alive. We actually didn't see him die. Usually we do see people checking in in closeups. We didn't get that here. We just saw the boat explode. A lot points into that direction but I think it is time to set up a happy ending and at the moment I would be willing to bet a small amount of money on one happy ending being Sun and Jin and a Child living happily ever after.

the drama isn't in whether Jin is really dead or not. there is more story potential in the fact that Sun THINKS he's dead. We've already seen that Sawyer was able to swim back to the island safely. So it's no stretch to beleive that Jin made it back.
If Jack can convince Sun to go back to the island with news that Jin is still alive, that would be good motivation. plus she would have to live with all of the things she did to her father under the mistaken impression that he was partly responsible for her husband's "death".
just sayin'

Wow, I'd forgotten how exciting Lost is for me. There's so much ground to cover in these last two seasons. Can't believe I have to wait four more months to see new Lost...

It would seem that Sun still thinks he's dead because she and Hurley visited Jin's grave after she had their baby. Of course, he could be alive and she doesn't know that yet, or it could be a plot to protect the island since the rest of the world only believes that 6 survived. Maybe she knows he's alive but she has to pretend he's dead until they can make it back to the island for their purposes.
The episode where Sun and Hurley visited the grave made me feel like he wasn’t dead. The date on the grave was the date the plane went down. Regardless of if they are covering something up or if he is dead, they would have to use that date so that no one else would know that other people survived for so long.
I believe Jin is still alive whether or not Sun knows it yet. I think the boat explosion would be too obvious for the writers. Because we don’t know if he jumped off or not, there’s no way to tell. Plus, how do we know that the explosion wasn’t an illusion? Crazier things than that have happened on that island. What if someone wanted the people in the plane to think that the boat exploded, but it really didn’t? On Lost, anything can happen.
