The CW may have kicked off its fall season on Labor Day, but for most of the other networks, things are just getting started. So what does that mean for you? Heavy promotion for not only the new shows premiering this fall, but for returning favorites as well. To that end, My Name Is Earl creator Greg Garcia and star Jason Lee spoke with reporters recently about Earl's upcoming 4th season.

My Name Is Earl returns for its 4th season on NBC with two back-to-back episodes, September 25 at 8pm. Not only did Garcia and Lee give us a taste of what to expect when we catch up with our favorite Camdenites, but they also dished the dirt on dream guest stars, what previous guest star peed over by craft services, if an Earl movie is in the works, and perhaps a word or two about a famously abrasive 30 Rock star. All of the details are after the jump.

This season, Earl is getting back to the list.

The series started out with Earl getting hit by a car, which led to his belief in Karma and his desire to make up for all of his past misdeeds. In season 3, he got sent to prison, hit by another car, lapsed into a coma, woke up, fell in love, and ultimately ended up with another failed marriage. In season 4, Earl won't be facing as many obstacles. They're getting back more to the roots of the show and focusing on the list.

Garcia says that they "want to get back to the basics of what we loved doing in season 1 and not have to be so crazy and worried about getting [Earl] out of corners we've painted him into and so far it's been fantastic. We're having a blast with it; we get to have this guest cast come in and meet these new crazy characters every week."

Jason Lee Likes it rough-- luckily Earl's writers are happy to oblige.

When asked what his favorite part of doing the show is, Lee responded that he always looks forward to "getting beaten up on the show [and] kicked around." He says, "In the last episode we filmed, I'm doing a bunch of stunts 30 feet in the air and there's always something going on to look forward to, that's really exciting -- the kind of stuff you wanted to do as a kid."

In addition to airborne stunts, there are a few other things we can look forward to on Earl this season. Garcia says that we'll finally find out why Darnell is in witness protection and that there's going to be a really sweet Joy-centric episode about motherhood. David Arquette is guest-starring in the premiere as someone whom Earl nearly killed, which Garcia calls one of the worst things Earl had done in his past.

Speaking of guest stars...

In addition to David Arquette, Seth Green is making an appearance this season; a fact that thrilled Jason Lee who says he's a huge fan of his. Recurring guest star Beau Bridges, who plays Earl's father, does appear early on in the season, but will more than likely be MIA for most of it, due to a show he's working on for ABC. The absence of Earl's parents led to the topic of dream guest stars. Lee said that he's kind of obsessed with Tom Selleck and would love to have him appear on the show as Earl's real dad. Hey, if the mustache fits...

Since we were on the topic of guest stars, I had to ask about Paris Hilton, who appeared in one of Earl's coma-induced fever dreams last season. Tina Fey had very few nice things to say about her after her appearance on SNL, and Rob Thomas was similarly unimpressed with her after she guested on Veronica Mars. However, after he made a joke about her making her mark by "peeing over by craft services," Greg Garcia said that she was very nice and had a "great sense of humor." Yeah, I'm still not seeing it.

So will Alec Baldwin be guest-starring any time soon?

For those of you playing along at home, 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin complained to The New Yorker that NBC pays more attention to My Name Is Earl than they do to his show. Greg Garcia fired back and called Baldwin a "psychotic narcissist." Baldwin accused Garcia of being a Scientologist, which Garcia says is not true. When asked about the NBC blood feud, Jason explains that he's friends with Alec Baldwin and told Alec to say all of that so Greg would retaliate and they would get more press for the show. Clever, Lee. In all seriousness though, Garcia says that "when you create and run a show, you have a family," and his remarks came from a desire to protect that family. With that said, he would be more than happy to have Alec Baldwin on as a guest star... or Kim Basinger.

Will there be a My Name Is Earl Movie?

In a word... no. When he was asked that question, Jason Lee just laughed and said, "only if [Greg Garcia and I] are hurtin' for cash." Frankly, I'm quite okay with this. I like Earl and all, but I'm not really sure that a big screen version is something that the world desperately needs.
