I've been lucky enough to see the first four episodes of the season, and you really, really don't want to miss them. Really. They continue where season two left off, and I surely don't miss the obnoxious, vile Lilah. I don't want to give anything away, but here are some tidbits:
- Dexter continues to become more "human;" when I think back to season one, and how Dexter didn't even want anyone in his apartment, it is amazing to see him entertain new friends. And let's just say Dexter has embraced other normal human activities with a voracious appetite in season three....
- The formula we've gotten so comfortable with in previous seasons has continued to be shaken, which leaves me biting my nails. Dexter once again flubs some kills, so season one's comfort of him not being caught seems to be gone for good.
- I'm happy to report Deb's potty mouth is back with full force, and is so refreshingly appropriate at times. Man, she says what some of us don't dare to think. Thank goodness she doesn't come with a social graces sensor; it would make her character dull.
- Jimmy Smits is a welcome addition to the cast. I was unsure about how he'd fit in, but I like his character, Smits' portrayal and the layers his relationships to the other characters adds.
- Angel has some new responsibility this season, and they've set him up for a possibly prominent story arc.
- They weakly wrap up Maria's troubles accepting Doakes as the Bay Harbor Butcher last season. Will this still be revisited at some point?
- Masuka may be getting more layers to his obnoxious personality this season; at least they have laid the groundwork for a more multi-dimensional character, which will be interesting.
- A new detective, Quinn, is added to the cast. Deb just can't figure him out, but there may be more to him than meets the eye.
- Anton, a handsome and mysterious informant, may be of more interest to Deb than just information.
- Dexter continues to be somewhat predictable, but as in past seasons, I just don't care. Knowing what could possibly happen doesn't ruin anything, and somehow, I am still on the edge of my seat, waiting for the inevitable to happen. How can a show be predictable and suspenseful at the same time? Still trying to figure that one out....
- As in past seasons, Dexter is hilarious. The voice-overs and double-entendres (not necessarily sexual) make me laugh out loud. How can a show about a serial killer be so funny?

I've seen the first episode. It wasn't as good as previous episodes. I miss Sergeant James Doakes. They should have killed off Angel Batista.

Whats with the Joe Piscopoe picture??
Worst Picture EVER.
I don't get why they keep having Dex flub kills. This is a guy who has been doing this for years (decades?) and not be caught.

HA! I didn't get the Joe Piscapo thing, but now I do! It's the season 3 promo pic Showtime is using.

Det. Doakes was a good character, so I don't like the way his character was dismissed. I'm not sure if I'll continue to watch.

Oh, no review for 90210 this week? I suppose the would-be reviewer felt the same as me after this crappy last-straw episode and deleted the season pass from their Tivo.
