(S03E314B) "Who's life will change tonight?" - The Voice-Over Guy
America's Got Talent's Mr. Voice-Over Guy was right, someone's life changed this week. Well, technically 10 lives changed during the results as Jerry announced the acts that made it to the Top 10. These ten amazing and not-so-amazing acts now have a chance to win a million dollars and headline a show in Vegas (I'm sure you were able to finish my sentence before completely reading it since Jerry said the latter part of it 10 times tonight!).
There were some surprises, a heart-stopping moment, and some "what were they thinking" moments during this rather dry but to the point 30-minute results show.
The Top 10 is composed of the following acts:
- The Wright Kids
- Neal E. Boyd
- Queen Emily
- Paul Salos
- Jessica Price
- Kaithlyn Maher
- Donald Braswell
- Nuttin But Stringz
- Eli Mattson
- Joseph Hall
The producers will need to rethink the formula next season if they want to keep viewers' interest. Maybe have the Top 40 perform by type of act so that we have a Top 20 that is more diverse, thus a Top 10 that is more diverse? In any case, they need to find a way to lower the number of singers who make it to the final and up the number of other type of acts.
Back to the result show. My jaw dropped for a few seconds when Jerry called Neal and Queen Emily on the stage at the same time. WTF? America couldn't get it THAT wrong now could it?! Sharon looked extremely shocked; her jaw was literally opened. But after thinking about it while putting my jaw back in place, I understood it was a ploy to shock people when in fact both would make it to the Top 10. Bad producers, bad! I have to admit though, that it brought some needed action to this rather dry result show.
Except for The Wright Kids, I'm not that surprised with the acts that got voted through. Neal, Queen Emily, Paul, Nuttin But Stringz and Eli were all shoo-ins. Even if I don't care much for Donald, he has a good following so no surprise there either. Kaithlyn seems to have a lot of fans too for being voted through. But since she never made a mistake, I'm willing to accept America's decision. I'm happy Jessica and Joseph got the judges' votes. Out of the 5th and 6th places per episodes, they are the ones who stand the best chance at winning.
I'm puzzled though as to why The Wright Kids got a spot in the Top 10. It must be because they are good musicians and are cute kids because their singing is lacking a lot. With the competition they are now facing, they don't stand much of a chance.
Are you happy with the Top 10 results? Who do you think will win it all? Comment below and vote in our poll!

I missed the show tonight and , perhaps I'm not reading this right. I don't know the names as well as I should.
Did Cadence and the Baton Twirling guy seriously not make it into the final 10?
If so, I'm beyond disappointed.
As you've said, where is the variety?

Yep, Cadence and Jonathan Burkin did not make it. Actually, Jonathan was either in 5th or 6th place in his show with Joseph Hall. Piers and David voted for Joseph, saying that Jonathan was a great baton twirler but that he couldn't sustain a 90-minute show. Sharon made a bit a fool out of herself because she wanted to vote for Jonathan but didn't know his name and said "Jonathan, no Joseph, no Jonathan." Everyone looked confused because they didn't know who she wanted to name. She then said "The Baton Twirler."

I CAN NOT believe the Cadence and Extreme Dance FX were both cut! They were the only reason we were still watching the show! Seeing these little kids going on to the top ten when truly talented acts are getting cut is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, little Katilyn is very cute and all, but who in their right mind would watch her stand there and do nothing for and hour and a half? Very, very disappointed, America. I have a feeling it was one of those, "Well we were so sure they'd make it we didn't bother voting" kind of evenings. Oh well. We're done for the season, no point watching what has turned into another American Idol singing competition.

I can't believe Katlyn made it even to the top 40 let alone the top 10. Sure, she is cute and knows her songs but lets get real about this. She has NO business being there and hasn't for a long time. There are so many others that deserved her spot almost from the very beginning. America STOP voting for her being cute and realize she doesn't have a lot of talent.

Wow. I really cant believe America voted through kaitlyn. They do realise its for a 90 minute Vegas show right? She would have to take a nap between songs. Also i kind of don't want Nuttin but strings to win because in my opinion there was a better group called Esala (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB2fa8g_m1s) on Britain's got talent and they didn't win and i thought they were even better. I also caught on that all of the top 10 acts are musical and said "i thought this was a variety show". Oh well.

That four year old should not have been in the contest.
Imagine what it felt like to someone trained at the Julliard School of Music to lose to a child with absolutely no training and no range. Half the time you can't under stand her. They should definitely have an age limit for entering or have a children's contest. Also perhaps have the top dance groups, adult singers, and other acts separated so that you have three or four winners from the groups competing for the top prize. Singers will always win out over dancers because they are engaging the audience.

I think there are too many singers, There's not the variety of talent to make it interesting. I enjoyed the Tap Dancing Dad and especially Johnathan the twirler.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... they need to do a spin-off show just for kids to participate in... "Young America's Got Talent" or something like that, for kids up to, say, 16 or so to compete in. Kaitlyn or whatever her name is, she's been getting by because she's cute, and everyone thinks it's amazing that she remembers the words to the songs she sings... she's not that good a singer, even for a child, IMHO.
And seriously, they need to work on ways of putting fewer singers through... we need more variety! And I think a lot o the acts in the top 20 shouldn't have made it as far as they did, for that matter -- the Elvis impersonator barely sounds like Elvis (heck, I do a better Elvis voice than he does), the Extreme FX dance group should've been in (I think they're the best dance group that's ever been on the show)...
...maybe the problem is that a lot of the acts who audition don't have a clue as to what to do if they get through one or two cuts. This seems to be a huge problem for the magicians on the show. Auditioning acts who have a 45 minute or longer show they're accustomed to performing need to figure out how to break it up into segments that can be performed independently, too, and cut the slow stuff out.
I'd also like to see some swapping around of the judges, perhaps have a few sets of judges for each city (kind of like what they did on Last Comic Standing) with Piers, David and Sharon joining in once the acts get to Vegas?

Jonathan Burkin has worked his whole life toward this and to be outdone by a lousy Elvis impersonator is beyond me - I am sick of all the singers, too - I thought we wanted variety...feel sorry for Kaitlin - hurting for Jonathoan and rooting for Nuttin' but Stringz

I am a mother of 4. And I feel that Kaitlyn is only in because she's cute. I feel that Queen Emily and Neal E-Boyd are good but..play the fans with their emotions. Enough already, I don't need the tears to try and get me to vote for you. I think Eli Matson is the best of all the singers....

I feel that Eli Matson is the better singer. Neal E. Boyd and Queen Emily are good and all. But they are using their sad but not the only ones in this world story to get America's vote. But isn't their already a spoiler on who won the show. Isn't it already fixed that Neal E. Boyd wins. And I like Kaitlyn, she's good for a 4 year old, and if her parents are comfortable with her perfoming, and America keeps voting her through, then let them. She may not win but she will have alot of fun trying.

I also agree that Eli Matson is the best singer out of all of them. I can't believe that the baton twirler got cut and the Wright Kids and Kaitlyn didn't, they are both good but come on. The baton act would sustain an audience in Vegas more than the kids singing would. I hope Eli Matson wins but have a good feeling that Nuttin But Strings will win.

Colour me disappointed that Joseph got through and Jonathan didn't. Honestly, his Elvis isn't all that good.
As far as Kaitlin goes - the rallying cry among the group of us who watch together is "Free Kaitlin!". I know it's hard to do, but Sharon needs to stop acting like a mom and start acting like a judge with this one.
I would've liked to have seen SickStep or Extreme FX get through, along with Jonathan. Too much singing, not enough variety. I am glad Eli got through, though.
In the end, I'm rooting for Nuttin' but Stringz.
