OK, so everyone has made the observation that new Vice President nominee Sarah Palin looks a lot like Tina Fey (and to a lesser extent, Megan Mullally). So we're all wondering who is going to play Palin when the new season of Saturday Night Live bows this weekend. Fey is no longer on the show, so will they have to find someone else on the show to play Palin, perhaps Amy Poehler or Kristin Wiig? There could be a subtle clue in this New York profile of 24 year-old humorist and SNL writer Simon Rich. After all the talk about his new book and the talk about how he desperately needs an ending to the novel he's writing, the interviewer asks him if Fey is indeed going to play Palin this weekend. The answer?
[Silence.]
When asked again, he says:
[Silence.]
Of course, one could read into this that he's only remaining silent because he's been told not to say anything one way or another on how the show is going to handle the Palin character. Just because he doesn't say anything doesn't mean that Fey is coming back, especially when you consider that SNL will need someone to play Palin a lot this season (on the show and probably on the political spinoff that's going to air on Thursday nights this election season) and they can't have Fey come in every single week (though 30 Rock is filmed in NYC...hmmmm).

If Tina doesn't come back for a Sarah Palin cameo, having Kristin Wiig play her is a no-brainer. She's not that far off from the movie-reviewing Aunt Linda.

I love Tina Fey, but I actually think that Kristen Wiig is the better choice anyway. Tina has her own style, and is at her best when she's playing herself, whereas Kristen Wiig is a much better impressionist.
Kristen Wiig does a pretty good job playing ridiculous characters, and Sarah Palin definitely falls into that category.

The only reason people are equating Palin and Fey is the glasses, otherwise they really dont look anything alike. But it would be funny for Tina to play her just because of the comparisons. Wiig is the obvious choice using current cast members however.

Thank you for saying that. I was beginning to think it's just me who couldn't see the whole Fey/Palin thing.
I wouldn't be surprised if they came out with some Hillary/Palin angle. Maybe a secret meeting or something like that where they cackle about torpedoing Barack. There possibilities are endless.

"30 Rock" isn't just filmed in the same city as SNL. Parts of it are filmed in the same BUILDING - the GE Building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Hence, "30 Rock." During exterior shots and a few odd scenes, they're literally a few floors away from each other. I'd say the odds that Lorne picked up the phone on August 29th and said, "Riiiight. Um, Tina, I'm going to need you to pull a little double-duty between now and November," are about 10:1.

Tony, they may do exterior shots around 30 Rock, but the interior shots are done at the Silvercup Studios in Queens. They created an exact replication of the halls of 30 Rock when they built the soundstages for the show.

Right, with the glasses thing, ALOT of women could pull of Sarah Palin.
I mean, that new Casey what's-her-face chick could do it.
I mean, you could put glasses on a pig...
Sorry.

That's funnier than anything they will show on Saturday's show.

I forgot all about Casey Wilson. She was really under-utilized last season.
Kristen Wiig is really thin, and being a little heavier, Casey would probably look more like Palin. If Casey does play the part, that would free up Kristen Wiig (in a blonde wig) to play Cindy McCain, or someone else.

SNL should really use the gag and just put glasses on a pig!

I'm more interested in who is going to play Joe Biden. Sorry, in case you haven't heard this is the VP that the magnificent lord messiah Barrack Hussein Obama picked. Really, who has the charm (of a drunken letch), hair (thats one expensive wig), and wit (lessness)?

Is it mostly guys on here saying that the only resemblance between Fey and Palin are the glasses? If so, that makes sense - the guys see the glasses and nothing else. Their mouths are the same, jawlines, dark hair, dark wide set eyes. Palin's cheeks are a little fuller. I bet when Tina was pregnant they could have been twins!
