In a move that will cause cardiac arrest in the millions of Joss fans out there, production has temporarily halted on Joss Whedon's new series Dollhouse so the man himself can work on some scripts. The production is only halted for two weeks, so it's hardly going to affect the proposed premiere in January 2009. It's interesting how close this event occured to Fox's temporary shutdown of the new season of 24. The two shows are even going to be on the same channel on the same night. I wonder if the two shutdowns are related?
I admit I was worried about the future of this series when the Writer's Strike happened. I thought it would be lost in the shuffle. For that matter, I was worried that Joss Whedon would stick to other projects and never create another television series again. And I'm still worried that this is a sci-fi show on Fox and that's a dangerous combination.
I'm looking forward to this show. Hopefully, Fox won't prematurely cancel it.

They're planning a crossover. In the first episode -- spoiler warning -- Echo kills Jack Bauer.

Creatively, I don't think there's anything to worry about. I believe 24 and Dollhouse have both "shutdown" because of a potential SAG strike. SAG has to have their board elections (happening later this month) before they can sit down and officially call a strike. There is speculation that they won't call a strike immediately, holding out until next year. But they might decide to strike in a few weeks. Nobody knows.
Of course, something else could be going on entirely. There are connections between 24 and Dollhouse. Howard Gordon and David Fury, producer/writers of 24, previously worked on Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it's spinoff, Angel. There might be a conspiracy of some kind here....

Well if it says that the production has shutdown, (which there should be a better word for it because it has a bad conotation to it) so that Whedon can work on more scripts then this is a good thing. He's probobly mapping out the first season of the series, and he's taking his time and doesn't want to rush the production of episodes and not bring his A game. When the series was pushed to Jan. of 09' he probobly figured best to take that time to really make the show something great. A little optimism isn't so bad people

Fox doesn't like Joss' scripts again. Someone probably died by being suddenly impaled.

Prediction: If the series is a hit, it's because "Joss is a genius."
If it's a flop, it's because Fox is bad.
Call it a hunch...
