Before we jump right into things, let's take a moment to think about just how amazing these past two weeks of Daily Show have been. The program has always been pretty solid, but both the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention have provided beautiful fodder for both Jon and the correspondents, who seem to have finally hit their stride. This particular group of correspondents works best when they're all teamed up, and it really showed during convention coverage. From Jason Jones and Samantha Bee sucking face in front of hapless interviewees to Rob Riggle and Wyatt Cenac grillin' up some arugula in an elitist parking lot. TDS is taking another break next week and, boy, do they deserve it.

Senator John McCain finally delivered his acceptance speech to a crowd of adoring supporters and suffocating reporters. Senior Political Analyst Jason Jones tried to report on the speech, but kept getting McCain and Kerry confused. Honest mistake. I know Jason Jones is one of the older correspondents from the bunch, but I haven't completely warmed up to him until just very, very recently. His work during the conventions helped that, and a special moment towards the end of the night totally sealed the deal.



"John McCain: Reformed Maverick": In this clip compilation of McCain's metamorphosis to what he is today, we got a whole lot of weird. I mean, really, this was just bizarre. As if the previous juxtaposition of McCain's speech with Bush's from years and years ago wasn't chilling enough, this inexplicable usage of Marlon Brando was cutting and really well-done. Where do they even come up with something like that? Not to mention the image of old Brando slowly devouring the image of his former self, like an ancient animal preying on its young. The bonus Ian McShane didn't hurt either.



No interview again on this final night of the convention. Instead, the correspondents took on the convention to find out the true meaning of the small town values embodied by the Republican party. Absolutely, without a doubt, the best part was Jason Jones getting a little flirty with the cowboy bashing gay rights. I won't get into what was happening to my gaydar during that special moment, so I'll just say that Jason did a spectacular job of thinking on his feet. Other great moments included Aasif Mandvi eating milk and cookies with a stripper and "America is awesome." I hope the teamwork involved in the past two weeks carries over to the normal shows because, while I'm so-so with most of the correspondents on their own, they are totally unstoppable when they work together. With their powers combined and all that.
