"Sarah Palin: Vet This!": More of that thrilling Republican National Convention coverage. I think I either underestimated just how super-snarky the right is or I just missed a hefty chunk of all the jackassery from the convention coverage. I mean, Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani mocking my community service alone would probably leave me in a serious case of playground tears.Senior Alaska Correspondent Rob Riggle donned his best manly man beard to talk about Sarah Palin and just how real she is. I think he summed it up perfectly with "I want someone I can relate to, who's like me or worse."
"Bristol Palin's Choice": Samantha Bee filed a report from the floors of the convention, focusing on Bristol Palin's choice to keep her baby. This was so simple but absolutely beautiful in its execution. I wonder how many of those interviewees were oblivious to Samantha's intentions and how many were secretly seething under their skins, keeping their teeth clenched to stop "choice" from spilling out. Anyway, I'm surprised Samantha didn't get slapped in the face and/or punched in the sass-mouth.
The night's guest was Mike Huckabee, who is always a lovely guest and seems to have a very good grasp of self-deprecating humor. Yeah, yeah, he's definitely the cuddliest evangelical ever. I may not agree with his political views, but he certainly knows where to go to grab some young crowd cred (see: the totally awesome late night brawl featuring Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien during the writers' strike). I think this was a solid balance between genuine discussion and joking around without getting awkwardly heavy.
Moment of Zen: John McCain wants a resolution, even though Rudy Giuliani's snarkin' on it.

You may underestimate the right, but I clearly haven't underestimated your far left liberal bias and am done reading anything you post.

What did you expect from someone who reviews The Daily Show?

Do you want some cheese with that whine?
I'm sorry, but "reality" in general seems to have a liberal bias, so...bad for you, I guess :-)

You guys are a TV blog, not a political blog. Just by throwing up a few videos from a television show isn't enough to mask your liberal agendas. Nice job with keeping it neutral TV Squad! I'm with Miller, I'm done reading your posts. I don't know what I'm going to do without my Project Runway updates or daily show updates (rolls eyes). Why are you here again?

Exactly, its a TV blog, which means you should take its politics less seriously and stop being such a tight-ass whenever someone doesn't agree with you.

Right on TV Squad. John Stewart rocks. Screw all these tight assed Republicans. We don't need them around here.

Wow, I checked all you complaining posters above and not one of you complained when the Daily Show was making fun of the Democratic Convention, but as soon as they, or Annie Wu, make fun of the Republicans then you are up in arms.
Lighten up. Make fun of everyone and then no one can get offended! And last of all look up the definition of 'satire' in the dictionary.

Now this is the most common sense thing I have read today! The ability to laugh at our selves and take things a little less seriously is absolutely essential!

I watched TDS last night, and this is an honest, straightforward review/recap of the show. Let's see what she says that could be read as her liberal bias:
"Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani mocking my community service alone would probably leave me in a serious case of playground tears."
I watched the convention and the speeches, and the clips again here, and they didn't take a damn thing out of context, they absolutely MOCKED community service. Any American that loves this country and our way of life should absolutely call out any VP nominee that derides such an important aspect of the way we live our lives in this free country.
"Mike Huckabee, who is always a lovely guest and seems to have a very good grasp of self-deprecating humor. Yeah, yeah, he's definitely the cuddliest evangelical ever. I may not agree with his political views"
She doesn't agree with his politcal views, yet seems to like the guy. Wow, remember when that was fucking possible in this country? I guess you guys are actually right, that IS a liberal bias.
If you're a staunch right winger without an open mind it MIGHT be a good idea to avoid TDS reviews. And it might be a good idea to watch Huck here, and see that it doesn't have to be all venom if you disagree, we can all agree to disagree. There was no overall tone of hatred for the right wing in this post AT ALL.

I wouldn't say they mocked community service, but rather they questioned the application (for better or for worse) of it when it comes to executive leadership. I can see both sides to that as someone (*gasp* on the right) that knows how hard it is to get a group of people involved in your community (I'm pretty sure, sometimes, that being president would be easier than motivating people to get together on one of their "free" days to volunteer with a shelter). It is all how you read things, if you take them for their surface value or not.
You are right though, remember a time when you could agree to disagree? It is still there, just a bit different. What I miss almost as much are the days I could read a post without an F-bomb being unnecessarily dropped. Just remember, like Mr. Mackey said
"Step 4: Dont say f[edited for the kids] any more because f[edited for everyone] is the worst word that you can say
So just use the word mmmkay! "

Truly think this has been the best week ever for TDS. However, I was able to laugh last week when it was the Dem convention being mocked.

Baron, i hear ya on the f-bomb and apologize if it offended... although i've never thought it was an issue on this site. mmmmkay.
But watch the video clips again, they were both clearly, CLEARLY! mocking community service - certainly as well as questioning it as a legitimate piece of Obama's resume. Both things should offend anyone, right or left, that knows from experience how hard it is to get done, and do well. That was my mmmmmkay point. ;-)

Hey Annie, if it's any consolation Jon says the same thing happens to him all the time.
"People are constantly saying, "I love your--your show is so funny, until you made a joke about global warming, which is a serious issue, and I can't believe you did that. And I am never watching your show again." You know, people don't understand that we're not warriors in their cause."

You have to give Mike Huckabee credit for being classy, respectful, good-natured and funny.
Like Gore, he seems much more relaxed now that he's not in a political hot seat.
I may not agree with the guy, but I sure as hell like him.

thanks for offering this TV squad, if it weren't for your site I may never have watched this show-- I don't have TV and I really appreciate being able to watch these episodes of the Daily Show.
WOW, are they incredible or what? Every clip makes my jaw drop. This is what the Daily Show cast and staff have been preparing for the whole time...
Thanks for the clips and the intelligent commentary (I actually took time to read it!). Don't let those a-holes above me scare you, they're robot-hearted anyway.
