Beware: Spoilers ahead!
What happened during the summer (aka what happened between the Season 1 finale and the Season 2 premiere)
- Jenny has been an intern for Eleanor.
- Dan has been an intern for a famous writer. He's also been battling a writer's block mostly due to his breakup from Serena. Dan "playboy" Humphrey has also been dating a lot.
- Blair spent her vacation alone abroad but made sure to get a boyfriend before going back to the States because it would look oh so bad to come back alone.
- Nate has been entertaining an older woman while he and Serena pretended to be dating as a cover story for both. Serena needed the cover story so people would let her mope alone on the beach all summer.
- Chuck has been trying to forget Blair, without being very successful at it.
- Vanessa worked on the launch of a new café/gallery.
- Rufus went on tour.
What will happen next
- Serena and Dan hook up. However, they need to talk about their differences in order to really be back together. They will spend most of the first three episodes making out, thinking and not talking about the real issues. During a blackout, they are forced to discuss and come up to a decision about their couple.
- Nate continues his torrid affair with an older married woman named Catherine. When his family may lose everything because his father is hiding, Nate will turn to Catherine for a loan and will find himself at her mercy.
- Vanessa, who now works at the café/gallery, tries to reconnect with Nate. The latter is too busy elsewhere...
- Eric and Jenny patch things up.
- At her internship, Jenny speaks her mind about one of Eleanor's design without knowing that the designer is actually in the room. Later on this season, Jenny will befriend a model who urges her to quit her internship and try to make it on her own.
- Rufus ponders going back on tour but when he sees how much he missed over the summer, he decides to stick around. He starts dating again.
- Blair comes back to the States with a new boyfriend. They discover that each have not been truthful to the other but decide to stick together anyway. Blair is ready to do a lot to impress her new royal boyfriend and show him she is worthy (she even throws a boring grown-up party in the hope he'll agree to introduce her to his parents).
- Chuck is highly jealous of Blair's new boyfriend. He has a P.I. do some digging in the hope to find dirt that will have Blair leave her new squeeze. Chuck can't get Blair off his mind, which affects his performance with other women.
- Because he can't finish a story, Dan is fired from his internship. Down the road, he'll find another writer who'll criticize Dan's writing. The author urges Dan to get some new life experiences. In steps Chuck. Hanging with Chuck may offer a lot to write about but also means having to write from the interior of a cell.
- Dan and Serena go back to dating other people. Dan will get together with new student Amanda, who shares his passions for books. Blair tries to recruit Amanda for her little circle. Serena dates an artist named Aaron.
- Word is Vanessa may be romanced by an older man.
- Eric will get a love interest named Jonathan.

Man, they really are little adults. Dan's sufffering from 'writer's block'. Jenny's encouraged to 'go off on her own' - um, aren't they 16/17? Now, even their jobs resemble the real world . . . Which, I know is the point, but reading it all at once always seems a bit much ;) Man, thank goodness the world was simpler 20 years ago ;)
