Hello Upper Eastsiders and friends! Get ready for another year of backstabbing, fights, evil plans, some more backstabbing, friendships put to the test, lies, breakups, hooking ups, seduction, sex, some more backstabbing and, of course, loads of gossip thanks to the queen of gossip: Gossip Girl.
After having had the chance to watch the first three episodes of the season I can tell you that The CW's Gossip Girl is back in full swing. The storylines are as twisted as ever and, more importantly, Chuck is, well, Chuck!
Slight spoilers follow!
As Gossip Girl says in the season premiere, sex, lies and scandal never take a vacation. Lucky for us because the first episodes of the season mostly take place in The Hamptons, where Chuck, Serena, Eric and Nate are vacationing. Blair, Dan and Jenny eventually make their way to the vacation spot just in time to stir the pot a little more.
The season premiere takes place a few weeks after last year's finale. We quickly find out what everyone is up to: Dan is dating and fighting writer's block, Serena is moping around, Chuck is trying to forget about Blair until she arrives and makes him jealous with her new boyfriend, Nate is busy entertaining a "cougar," Jenny is having a hard time at her internship for Eleanor, and Rufus is back from a tour. The main drama comes from Nate's new squeeze and Blair's royal boyfriend. I won't reveal more about it here but let's say that these two storylines will intertwine in a very interesting and twisted manner. This drama will offer us very good scenes between Blair and the guest character played by actress Mädchen Amick.
I enjoyed the first three episodes of the season, mostly thanks to Chuck and Blair. These two are my favorite characters. They are complex and flawed and, as expected, both live up to their "flawed" reputation early on the season. If you are a fan of Jenny, you'll be happy to know that she has grown up and is still making mistakes while trying to make sense of the world around her. Jenny's storyline at Eleanor's workshop opens up a new world of possibilities. The young Humphrey is ready to do a lot of things to make it in the fashion business, even backstab her boss at Eleanor's studio!
Serena and Dan shippers are in for a bumpy ride this season if the first three episodes are only a taste of what's to come. Let's say that they "are," "are not," "maybe," "are," "are not," etc. You get the picture, eh? Not pretty but it's what to be expected on Gossip Girl and we wouldn't have it any other way.
One thing that I'm not happy about is the sort of flirtation vibe between Vanessa and Rufus. The latter has always been nice to Vanessa but their interactions at the new café/gallery in episodes 2 and 3 of the upcoming season are a bit too much for my taste. Thing is, Vanessa and Rufus don't say or do a thing in these episodes that can suggest a hook up (which wouldn't be surprising considering it's Gossip "OMFG" Girl we are talking about) but there is a vibe between the two that rubs me the wrong way. I truly hope that I'm 1000000% wrong about this because I like Rufus too much for him to sleep with his son's ex-girlfriend.
Be sure to tune in on September 1 on The CW for Gossip Girl's season premiere. Once you have watched the episode, visit our Gossip Girl section to give your two cents in response to our episode reviews. In the meantime, you can watch the five-minute sneak peek of the season premiere.

Hee. Vanessa and Rufus. Maybe Vanessa is just getting back at Nate for sleeping with the cougar. Heh.
Probably won't happen, but that'd be quite a risky storyline.
