Big Brother 10: Nominations #7

DAn and Renny(S10E19) Let's start with the April aftermath...

With April gone, Ollie feels it's do or die now in the Big Brother 10 house. He's played the game "sub-par" up until now. Renny feels great about her successful HOH reign. Her target left. Mission accomplished. Keesha is worried about how Ollie will react. And Dan, the swing vote, had some parting words for April who tried to buy him off: "Guess what, April? I'm not here for $5,000. I'm here for $500,000." So, Dan is there to win.

One thing we found out for sure tonight: Dan may or may not win Big Brother, but he is certainly there to play. A recap of last night's Big Brother is after the jump ...

The Next HOH is...

We left the hamsters on Thursday swinging like little rodent Tarzans. Tonight we rejoined them (in TV time, of course -- the hamsters were off the ropes on Thursday evening) to find out who would be the next Head of Household. I was still rooting for Dan when I turned on Big Brother this evening. I think he's due.

After 41 minutes, 75-year-old Jerry was the first to drop. He said that the rope was cutting into his groin making the competition very painful. Too much information. When he dropped, Jerry needed a few minutes to regain some blood flow in his legs before he could even exit the stage.

The hamsters started throwing some water balloons at each other. Michelle, always so easy-going and pleasant, was incredibly ticked off that Memphis accidentally hit her right in the face in an attempt to get Ollie. After some more water balloon throwing and a lot more slamming into the jungle wall, Keesha dropped at one hour, five minutes. Memphis said in the Diary Room that he was disappointed with her. "I hoping to have her put at least a decent effort into it," Memphis grumbled. There's something about Memphis just isn't that likable. He's a good player, makes good moves and yet I can't wait for him to go home.

Michelle dropped next because her sneaker got caught in some netting (one hour, 59 minutes). Michelle was upset about dropping; she didn't mean to give up. She wanted to hang with the boys and compete. Memphis followed her over an hour later at three hours 19 minutes.

So it was down to Dan and Ollie. Both wanted the HOH. Ollie might put up Dan. Dan might put up Ollie. They both knew it. Ollie was hurting but determined since April had just departed. Dan started wheelin' and dealin'. He began with the typical endurance competition deals. You're safe, Ollie. I won't put you up -- not even after the veto. Oliie said "no," he wanted to see his family. Dan said he wanted to see a picture of Monica.

The next deal got Ollie though. Dan will keep Ollie save. Dan will keep another houseguest of Ollie's choice safe (Ollie protected Michelle). And here's the kicker: Dan will let Ollie pick a nomination and pick the replacement nominee if the veto is used. What?! I like Dan. I think he's playing a good game but after tonight's show, I'm having reservations. This is either the stupidest or the smartest move in BB history.

Anyway, Ollie dropped soon after making that sweet deal and Dan became HOH for the first time.

Keesha and Memphis met in the pantry directly after the competition. Keesha said that Dan made a deal but she couldn't hear the specifics. Memphis and Dan talked later in the bedroom and Dan told his "renegade" partner that he made a stupid deal. "Things might get sticky this week," Dan said.

Dan's HOH Room

Monica sent Dan a shirt that said "TAKEN" on it. Memphis scoffed at the shirt in the Diary Room and said that he would never wear such a thing. Dan turned on the waterworks while he read his letter from Monica aloud to the hamsters. Dan shouldn't quit teaching for an acting career any time soon. Renny fell for it though. She even commended him in her Diary Room confessional saying that she thinks sensitivity and being able to express emotions are both great qualities for a guy.

We got to see a bit more of Renny and Dan's relationship later on when the "Darlin' from New Orleans" grilled Dan about past girlfriends. Actually, all she did was ask how many girls Dan had dated before Monica. But Dan, ever-ready to give Renny a bit of a hard time, asked for parameters and qualifiers and definitions for so long that Renny walked away without her answer. I love when Renny gets upset like that. She said the way Dan converses is "not even human." Dan and Memphis had a great laugh though.

Pre-Nomination Drama

It was time to hold up the bargain and Dan met with Ollie. Ollie said he wanted Memphis up on the block this week. Dan said he wants to nominate Jerry. Dan didn't do much to try to talk Ollie out of his nomination. I couldn't tell if Dan was in control or starting to sweat about his premature deal-making.

Dan talked to Memphis outside. Memphis took the news calmly but was clearly upset. Who wouldn't be? This is his alliance partner (well, to be fair, his partner since like last week). Memphis said, "[Ollie] might as well be HOH." And it's true.

Dan immediately started running interference for his future nominations. He pulled Keesha and Renny into the HOH room and made a pact with them. Dan told them that he wanted to make the foursome official, himself, Keesha, Renny, and Memphis. Renny said several times that she doesn't trust Memphis. "He's a dog," Renny warned. Dan wants to honor his promise to Ollie but needs two votes to keep Memphis safe. Will Renny be that second vote? "My entire game depends on a lady who walks around here with wigs and boas all the time," Dan said.

When Dan met up with Memphis in the kitchen later on, Memphis was more upset. He chastised Dan; he would NEVER put him up. How does a two-person alliance have one person as HOH and one on the block? I know, Memphis. I don't think the logic makes sense to many of us BB fans.

In the Diary Room segments leading up the ceremony, Michelle wondered if Dan would keep his word. Memphis vowed to go after Dan. Ollie waited for the ceremony to see if Dan would uphold parts one and two of the three-part deal. If Dan doesn't keep his promise, he's a snake in Ollie's book. Jerry hopes there's no sour grapes about their past "issues." Wishful thinking, Jerry.

Nomination Ceremony

Dan told the hamsters about his deal with Ollie in his nomination speech. He didn't go into particulars but simply said that you'll agree to crazy things when hanging twelve feet int he air. Dan also asserted that he would keep his end of the bargain.

The keys came out like this: Ollie, Renny, Keesha, and Michelle.

So Dan did honor his side of the stupidest deal ever made on Big Brother (or ... the greatest deal ever made on Big Brother). He didn't nominate Ollie or Michelle (part one) and he nominated who Ollie wanted, Memphis (part two). Dan then addressed his nominees, Jerry and Memphis.

To Memphis, Dan said "some people look at you as a vagabond, I say you're a renegade. We'll find out." Okay, nice placement of their alliance name, but I don't see how that statement would really make Memphis feel better about his partner nominating him.

To Jerry, the HOH said that he was past the "Judas thing" and gave this football analogy. Jerry took a shot at him; now Dan would return the favor. But a first down for Dan doesn't mean a touchdown for Jerry. Nope. That wasn't the analogy.

We left off with Jerry and Memphis sounding off in the Dairy Room. Jerry said he was scared because he's nominated for a second week in a row. But he'll take it in stride. Memphis refused to shake Dan's hand after the ceremony. He's pissed.

Dan's deal: foolish or genius?
