(S02E07) "Sounds like the world's worst game show." - Sam Axe
Finally, Michael gets himself involved in someone else's problems in a truly organic way. Like most of you, I was tired of people seeking Michael's help like he was Robert McCall Jr. So when he came to the defense of Seymour, it was really refreshing to see.
Speaking of Seymour, I was surprised to see Silas Weir Mitchell playing a character who was so socially functional. After his stint on Prison Break and Earl I wasn't sure if he was even acting.
Unfortunately, it only took until after the opening credits for someone to ask for Michael's help. Virgil didn't make much of an impression on me the first time around. His intended phone call to Michael's mom helped me remember who he was but it also made me wonder why Mike would get involved with this guy again after everything that happened last time.
The cute way that Virgil and Madeline and everyone was playing off their relationship really didn't work for me. Michael had a point about Virgil attracting bullets and was doing what any good son should. It didn't make sense that Virgil would ask Mike for a favor and still push so hard to get with Madeline or that she would still be interested in him considering how freaked out she is by guys with guns. I didn't buy it.
Watching Michael and Seymour try to work together was hilarious. It actually reminded me of shows like Tenspeed and Brownshoe or Crazy like a Fox where one partner would get the other involved in something really dangerous just so he would have his back. If Seymour doesn't at least become a semi-regular, I will be very disappointed.
I've mentioned before that one of the reasons I love this show is because it actually shoots in Miami. That fact offers a host of things that a Hollywood sound stage can't. Case in point, Gerard the thief and his crew. Only in Miami, Florida could you a find a group of extras who look that sleazy and worthless. It made me long for Art Deco days.
Out of all Michael's covers, this nerdy character was definitely my favorite. The inhaler, the fast talking and the running like a dork were all more believable than anything he's done thus far. I only hope that like the "spy for hire" thing, his "cover of the week" doesn't get overused.
Michael and Virgil's little play on the boat was awesome. That scenario has been done a dozen times before in movies and on TV, but Michael's solution was pretty original. The only thing better was his reaction after recognizing his fridge.
This was an episode that can only be described as kick ass. Aside from the fact that there weren't enough hot ladies for my liking, I thought it was the best offering this season. I'm thinking the return of the yogurt was a sign that this show will only get better. At the very least, I'll definitely be back in three weeks

very enjoyable show, even if it is formulaic.
3 weeks until the next episode? Poor scheduling by USA network. Who really cares about the US Open.

I don't understand your point. It makes perfect sense that a guy who slept with a chick would want to meet up with her again if he happend to be back in town, especially if he didn't screw her over and they both had a good time. What would be ridiculous and poor writing is if he came back and didn't say anything about Micheal's mom, as a son that would piss me off even more.
Overall it was a nice episode, but like I said before, this crime of the week formula is getting old real fast, they need to embark on a major arc quickly. Also did anyone think how stupid it was for Micheal to assume that the "Bill Johnson" name was legit and something to go on. I mean he uses aliases everyday, so either this is extremely poor writing or Micheal just had a lapse.

Why only 9 episodes this season? I thought it was to be 13. Doesn't leave much time to wrap up the Carla storyline.

There are actually 16 eps this season...we get the first 9 now and then they are 'taking a break' until after the first part of 2009.
I know, I was dissappointed as well.......

This was my first episode of the show ever, and I really enjoyed it! I think the lead actor is just fabulous. I really believed he could be super hot and a super dork at the same time. Don't really like Fi so much yet... but I'll definitely keep watching.

I would like to see Seymour like we see Barry, the money guy. I like the fact that Virgil was back. I would like to see Michael use people that he has helped help him help others. (I know, that was a different show called STINGRAY, but whatever...)
As for three weeks, I wish they had taken the last two weeks off and just played the Olympics 24/7.
It is frustrating have to choose between Monk/Psych/ Burn Notice and the Olympics. I have Tivo so that is not an issue, but NBC/USA should have really put some thought into this. If you want to sell add time, play the Olympics 24/7.
As for this episode, I loved it. I love cable shows that have a shorter season, so you don't have pointless episodes. With the shorted seasons, you have to push the plot forward with each episode. This works great with Rescue Me, The Shield, Battlestar Galactica and Burn Notice. It keeps me interested and wanting more.
Sadly, Battlestar Galactica took to long to come back and I haven't watched the last season, The Shield should end with a BANG, and I am looking forward to that every day. I have loved the mini-episodes of Rescue Me, but the jury is still out if I will watch that again.

I liked this ep, but I don't understand how Michael can continue to work the same con without people recognizing him. When the police arrest the crooks, don't they give a statement (or some type of artist rendering)? Why aren't they more suspicious of new people? If the victims can find Michael, why can't the bad guys? Also, has Michael decided that he will never ask/accept payment now?
Superficial side note: Bruce Campbell is looking much better these days. I've had a mini-crush on him since Brisco County, Jr, so was upset at the beer belly of last season. But, recently they've started combing his hair and doing more close-ups on the Chin's face.

P.S. I really didn't buy Michael as the geek. He's too hot and built for that -

Don't feed the stereotype that all geeks are feeble creatures.

Great, great episode. Jeffrey Donovan is a great actor and seeing him as a "geek" this week was hilarious.

I wanted to clear something up about Gerard. That is not just someone they found in Miami. It is Max Martini from CBS's The Unit. It is a great show and you should check it out!!

I loved Michael's geek act this time. I thought the actor did a great job, unlike some of his "tough criminal" accents, and there was that great Keyser Soze moment at the end when he threw aside his inhaler and kicked ass.
Also, the yogurt references are back in full force...
