I'd love to hear the context in which this quote was uttered in this MTV interview with Sarah Connor Chronicles star Brian Austin Green.Green says that he would love to play The Riddler in the next Batman movie. He knows he's going to be busy "killing machines and people" on the FOX show, but he's still available to be in the movie, even though it might take a lot of time to prepare for such a role.
A lot of people online are giving Greene flak for being presumptuous that they would even consider him for such a pivotal role in a big screen blockbuster and also for sort of campaigning publicly for the role. But I wonder exactly why it was brought up in the first place. Did the interviewer ask him, "So Brian, how's it going?" Then he answered "It's going well. I'd love to play The Riddler in the next Batman movie." Or did the interviewer ask him about The Dark Knight and ask him if he'd like to be in the next movie and Green offered this answer and the question was left out of the interview?

He probably heard about all the swinging parties that Adam West and Frank Gorshin went to back in the 60's and thought "Yeah, I want in on that"!

Ok maybe I'm nuts, but I don't think this idea is that far fetched. I'm not saying he's going to get the role or should. However, I know quite a few people that were skeptical of Ledger until people started buzzing and pics started leaking out. Greene is the type of known, but not huge star I would like to see cast. I think the big names being tossed around will only create too much hype for the third movie.

I think I just puked in my mouth a little.
I for one would love to see the next batman film deal with a entirely new villain. Or if you need to stick with the comic rogue gallery, choose someone with a little less presence.

I wasn't sure about The Riddler either but you know he wouldn't have to wear a bright green suit w/ question marks all over it. I think Nolan would tone it down and bring a sense of realism to it.
Also I think this guy looks the part, or at least he could look like a good Riddler. I only wonder if he's got the acting chops.

BAG - take it slow big boy. I think most people just got over their uneasiness of him in TSCC.

*sigh* This is what happens when stars start advertising for roles they have no talent for. I won't lie. BAG impressed me with his ability to handle SCC. But, I don't see him as able to approach Ledger's Joker, Carey's Riddler (which I enjoyed) or even the E. Nigma of Batman Animated Series. While I do wonder if it's out of context (to answer your q), I slightly doubt it -

Don't underestimate him like I once did. Check out the passble comedy Freddie on ABC a couple years ago. BAG steals every scene.
He's freakin hilarious and I think he would be a surprise hit in that kind of role.

A lot of people expressed interest in the Joker before it got cast. Lachy Hume? Who is that?

I think he'd be pretty good, but The Riddler's too similar to the Joker, IMHO. I'd rather see Catwoman or to be honest, a new, non-canonical villain. Many of Batman's comic book villains are...cartooney. How about Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins? You just know he escaped. Maybe bring in Green Arrow and Black Canary?
Personally, I don't think we need another one. The Dark Knight was perfect. Of course, $$ talks.

IF they use the Riddler as one of the next villains, I actually don't think Greene would be bad for the role. Remember, lots of us scoffed or were dubious of the idea of Ledger as the Joker. Now he's regarded as the best live-action depiction of the character.
Greene has also, so far, proven himself on the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I swear, when he first appeared in that series, I did not recognize him -- he was familiar to me, but I couldn't place him at first.
I predict this is all moot, though, because I don't think the Riddler will appear in the next BatNolan movie. I predict it will be a villain who not only fits best (thematically and aesthetically) into the realistic BatNolan-verse, but will also be a popular villain among Batman comic fans who has yet to appear in a live-action version of Batman. The Black Mask fits under these two circumstances.

Forget the Riddler or Catwoman, I want King Tut, Egghead or Lord Fog and Penelope Pea Soup!

To Mark Rabinowitz I am not sure how much you know of the Riddler but the Joker and Riddler are not the same people. To the normal people that don't read the comics you might think they act the same way but in truth they have a very different feel and what Nolan could do with the Riddler if he was to be in the next movie could really be dark.
I my self would want to see some one new. Like scotty said the Black Mask would be great. May be even bring in Dead Shot too. But some one I would really like to see is Hush.
I don't want to see a Catwoman I'll take Talia Al Ghul instead. There is the real Love of Bruce. She knows He would be Batman and would come to get revenge on Batman because of what He did to her dad and at the same time she will what to be with him.
As for Brian Austin Green I have seen what He can do and it would be cool to see what He could do in a movie but not the Riddler. Like I said I would like to see Dead Shot and He could fit the bill. He would be called in by a new mob boss named Rupert Thorne who works in the Politics and uses his power to get a new mayor to do his bidding like in the Comics.
If not that instead seeing as if the Riddler is in the next movie the Riddler does all these evil things with leaving zodiac messages behind after He does his killing but also has a right hand man and that is Dead Shot.
So what ever happens Nolan will do what is best. Every one said after Begins it was the best Comic book movie and did not thing He could top it and He did. So when ever the next Batman movie will come out it should be just as good if not better.

Let's see how it goes. Obviously they're going to make the Riddler extremely cold and calculating, compared to the chaotic Joker.

I don't get the big deal. Ledger was essentially an out-of-left-field casting decision (and really not a box office draw with only two hits in his decade-plus career).
