Over the last two years Food Network's Alton Brown has taken to America's roads less traveled in the Feasting on Asphalt series in order to find the little known jewels that were left behind as the Interstates began to rule the country. Along the way, Alton and his crew dined on alligator, various pieces of pig that are not normally consumed by the general public, sweet bread sandwiches, and lots and lots of doughnuts. Now, filled with fried dough and cow brains, Alton has decided to get off of his motorcycle and see what other delicacies are out there in warm waters of the Caribbean.
The new show will be called Feasting on Waves and will premiere September 7th on, where else, Food Network. In this new series Alton and his band of merry (and hungry) men will go on a search for the culinary roots of many of America's favorite foods. Starting in St. Kitts, Brown will take the journey Christopher Columbus did on his second trip to America -- heading north and west from the Leeward Islands to the British Virgin Islands. In the spirit of Feasting on Asphalt, Waves will focus on the most authentic and traditional foods of the region as well as look at the unique stands and restaurants that maintain a dedicated and local following.
While I'll watch Feasting on Waves, I sort of wish that Alton kept on the roads of America. I would have been particularly interested in seeing him take a ride up the local roads of the East Coast. But, maybe that's for the next year. In the meantime, if you are looking for some video clips of the series you can go to the show's web site.

I wish he'd come back tot he East Coast as well. I met him a few years ago on the Gear for Your Kitchen book tour in Burlington Ma. He was an awesome speaker and stayed till everyone's book was signed.

I agree. I also wish he'd revive his blog. I'd love to see him do a crossover with Mythbusters - my reaction when they did the Explosive Meat Tenderizing was that Alton Brown must be jumping up and down saying "Why don't I get to do that?"

He could really do a lot about the little places on the East Coast, and I think more people would care.

I love Good Eats. I wish HE got a show on CBS, instead of the other person.

Why the East Coast? There really IS an East Coast bias to this country. We've seen all there is to see in the East Coast in almost every aspect of living and hobby.
How about doing the Midwest or the Plain states? How about the Dakotas and Montana--three states that get no love, and though most believe they are threadbear, they actually have local cuisine that's just as good as anything the East Coast has to offer. But I forget, apparently NYC and Boston are where everything happens.
