Many on this site, both reviewers and commenters, have complained for many years now on the way that Sci Fi Channel handles the airing of their original programs. The main complaint has been that viewers have had to wait nearly six months, or more, between the time part one of the season ended in the summer and part two began at the end of January. Most recently these complaints have been addressed about Stargate Atlantis.
Well, those complaints may have finally been heard by the programming wonks over at Sci Fi because Atlantis looks to be continuing its season through the fall. After completing the first half of its run on September 26th, with a break for Labor Day, Atlantis will return to the schedule on Friday, October 10th at its new time of 9:00 PM. The week before, it will be preempted by the two-hour series premiere of Sanctuary, which will move into the 10:00 PM slot in back of Atlantis.
Atlantis will continue to run through October, with a preemption on Halloween night due to the Ghost Hunters Live event. Whether or not the remaining ten episodes of the series will wind up in 2008 or continue into 2009, when the last half of Battlestar Galactica airs, has yet to be addressed.

This is crap. I like that they break up the seasons, just like they do at USA. This is a stupid move because the same people who complained about the 6 month hiatus will complain about the LONGER hiatus that will result from October to next June. 8 months>6months.

Or it could also be that this will be Atlantis' last season and it will all end (or be open to movie like things since Ark of Truth and Continuum seem to have made MGM some money)

I agree...when I was a "younger-person", the seasond were longer and not split up. It makes it hard... I have alot to do and don't live by T.V. Guide, etc.. I like to know what day, what time, no in-season switching of channels or time slots. It IS crap-ola! Thanks, Jake!
Sincerely,
JZ

It would be stupid of scifi to air just a couple of episodes from the back 10 and then save the rest for 09. There will be no need to break the law and download an episode from a canadian broadcast.

This is terrific news! Atlantis will be a wonderful lead in to Amanda Tapping's new show Sanctuary.
I hope this also means we won't have to wait until next summer for Season 6.....it WILL be renewed.

Even if it is renewed, you will probably need to wait til at least late spring if not summer for season 6. I think Scifi will want more than a hand full of ratings to pull off of to decide on season 6. I wouldn't expect that decision to be made late october at the earliest. Given production time, we wouldn't be able to see any new episodes until late April.

Marvelous news, thank you TV Squad!
It will be wonderful watching Stargate Atlantis and then Sanctuary immediately after on the same channel.
Perhaps this arrangement was also made to help facilitate filming the THIRD Stargate SG-1 movie in January.

I was fine with the way they broke it up. There is a lot of other TV on in the fall as it is.
Oh Sci-Fi....trying to ruin another TV show are you?
