TV Obits: Bullock, Powers, Caray, Ackerman, Whitehead

BullockA roundup of TV people from in front of the camera and behind the scenes who have passed away.

  • Hiram Bullock: He was a veteran session guitarist probably best known to TV fans as being a guitarist in Paul Shaffer's band during the first couple of years of Late Night with David Letterman on NBC. He also played on classic albums by everyone from Billy Joel and Steely Dan to Barbara Streisand and Sting. He died in New York at age 52.
  • Dave Powers: He was a director probably best known for his work on The Carol Burnett Show, where he won four Emmy Awards. He also directed shows such as The Ropers, Three's a Crowd, Mama's Family, and various specials. He died of skin cancer at age 75.

  • Skip Caray: He was the announcer for Atlanta Braves baseball games for 33 years. His father was legendary Cubs announcer Harry Caray. He died in his sleep at age 68.

  • Andrew Ackerman: He was the person in charge of production on ABC's Eli Stone, and over the years was involved in the production of many shows, including Everwood, The West Wing, Jack & Bobby, ER, Friends, Eight is Enough, Falcon Crest, Lois & Clark, and many others. He died of cancer at age 55.

  • Clay Whitehead: He was a telecom adviser to President Nixon and was instrumental in setting up the cable television systems we have today. He died of prostate cancer at age 69.
