(S02E09) Ah, if only we all had someone in our lives who would say that whenever we turn up with a problem. I'd like to say there were some surprises in this episode, but really there was just one I didn't see coming.

Trevor realizes that he's been a handful so when she says, "I wish I could deploy -- to a five-star spa," he takes her words to heart. In typical TV fashion, because in reality this kind of stuff doesn't happen, Trevor decides to create a spa dinner for Roxie.

The tribe chip in to help him, but the surprise is ruined because Roxie can't resist socializing with the girls from her G.E.D. class. Now, that did come as a bit of a surprise. Not Roxie socializing, but that she's a high school dropout. She comes off as a smart cookie, but apparently that's all life experience.

The big surprise of the night wasn't Denise and Getty, thanks to the previews. It didn't take a rocket scientist to guess that he would be the guy brought in to the ER in broken pieces. Denise can now be guilty about causing the accident, while she's also guilty about Frank coming back because he suspects that something's up with her.

Ostensibly, his concern was Jeremy and the drug thing -- which was too conveniently dropped by the end of the show. Frank blasted Denise for not telling him right away and isn't that predictable? Does Frank ever react with understanding and concern, you know, like Michael.

I thought it was really interesting that the actor who plays Jeremy speaks in the same cadence as Frank. They're really alike, and both really judgmental when it comes to Denise.

The big shock was Joan's incident at Lamaze class. I don't think she's going to lose the baby, but I bet she winds up having to get off her feet for the remainder of the pregnancy. That'll give Evan -- who Joan doesn't trust and neither do I -- a chance to really take over her position.

So, between Frank coming home, Getty in the hospital, Denise torn apart and Joan's medical emergency, next week should be pretty dramatic.

Other points of interest

-- Brenda Foyle interviewed Pamela and then ran the story on the front page of Fort Marshall newspaper. Really? Front page for a feature? That's not realistic. Maybe the front page of the Local section or the Home section. After all, there is real news on the post, you know, like that drug bust that Joan and Evan were spearheading.

-- Emmalin's boyfriend Quinn seemed like a real Eddie Haskell, even if he does read Kerouac and plays the guitar. Michael sized him up as if he were Jim Morrison, when he looked like Eli Manning. When Em caught him in a lie, you kind of guessed that she was jumping to the wrong conclusion.

-- "Have At It" becoming career day for Pamela's daughter's school was contrived. I wish they'd keep from doing cutesy, Hallmark moments like this. If you were listening to that on the radio, you'd switch the channel.

-- Peking duck? Has Trevor ever eaten it, let alone know what it takes to cook Peking duck?

-- If Roland wants to help Roxie, he should hook her up to a computer accounting program for Betty's before the lace starts bleeding red ink.
