Among other things, he's had an ice cream and a hockey team mascot named after him, and now Stephen Colbert once again proves his influence on pop culture by having a new species of spider named after him. Colbert demanded on his show that a spider be named after him upon learning that one had been named after Neil Young.Colbert's faux-conservative television persona will have a chance to react to the news this coming Wednesday when East Carolina University biologist Jason Bond appears on the show. The new spider species in question was discovered along the coast of California and will be called Aptostichus (ap-TAS'-tih-kus) stephencolberti.
Colbert has quite the following. I recall not even getting close to seeing him when he appeared at a previous New York Comic-Con to promote his comic book. I love his show and tend to catch the clips online. I know a museum has also been named after him as well. I wonder what he'll get named after himself next.

You left out the baby bald eagle and, if I'm recalling correctly, a tortoise. I remember that uber-patriot Colbert was very upset when his young eagle namesake migrated to Canada...

As I recall, on that episode he was presented with a number of options as to which spider would be named after him.
I would assume, since the linked Yahoo article is dated July 31, the upcoming episode answers that question.
As such, it's new information and not merely a case of TV Squad being behind the times.

Actually they didn't name the bridge in Hungary after him. The Hungarian ambassador informed him that he had to be either dead or fluent in Hungarian for the bridge to be named after him. They named the bridge Megyeri hid (Megyeri Bridge).
