The official trailer for the Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica has been out for a few weeks now. If you haven't seen it yet, it gives a fairly vague outline of what the show will be about. In the trailer you will see snippets of Joseph Adama (Esai Morales), Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz), a radical bomber on a subway, an early version of a Cylon, and some near full-frontal nudity.
So far, the reviews have been mixed on the content of the trailer. While there have many calls of "I can't wait" and "looking forward to it," others think that it will fall far behind the quality of the current BSG. For example, one commenter over at iFilm said the show should stand par with standard network or cable dramas but it could fail in the science fiction area. Another commenter stated that the trailer didn't look high tech enough. A third asked, "No dogfight?" Many others are upset because BSG hasn't even finished yet.
As for me, I'm undecided. I've always felt weird at the way these spacefarers dressed like you and I do on a normal basis, and it seems that Caprica is going for more of a retro look, with the men doffed in hats while walking outside. Almost like Mad Men in outer space. But, this is just the trailer ... I'll wait for the show to start. In the meantime, you can view the trailer yourself and express your initial opinions if the show will be a success or a failure.

I will watch and reserve judgement until I have seen a few episodes. I will say that I really like the casting choices.

I'm doing the exact same thing as you; waiting and watching before I judge. I was one of the naysayers when I first heard about the re-imagining of BSG and boy was I wrong, so I'll reserve judgment until I've seen a few actual episodes.
The person that asked, "no dogfight?" is either an idiot, has no idea what Caprica is supposed to be about, or both.

It is way too early to make a judgement. Clearly, they are taking some of the traditional Scifi elements that were minimized in BSG and minimizing them a thousand times more.

What I'm confused about is that they seem to create a human form cylon. Wasn't that the big surprise in BSG that the cylons don't all look like toasters?

I love bsg dearly, it is by far my favorite show of all time.
However, Caprica will not deliver because:
1. It's not in space - so the whole Firefly, shifty action won't be there to dazzle us.
2. The whole early human cylon thing with the Adamas seems forced.
3. The script was written before bsg and then adapted to fit the universe by a non-bsg writer (that right there is a clear warning sign).

I'll probably check it out, but it doesn't seem that good.. but i dearly hope it is. I hate to see BSG tarnished by a cheap and crappy spin-off.

Ditto. I don't feel massively impressed by the trailer or the concept. I suppose we shall see, I am just not uber-excited over this one right now.

I'm a huge fan of BSG, and have been very excited about the prospect and concept of "Caprica" since it was first announced.
This makes it look reeally boring. I'm reserving judgment, but I've just gone from excited to a bit concerned.

As a big BSG fan who has read the pilot script for Caprica, it's been tough to hold my tongue and watch the reaction to this trailer. There is so, so much more to this show than this one trailer is letting on. I've been assuming that it's a lack of effects shots, the rush to cut a trailer in time for the TCAs, or something related to post production that gives us such a limited view of what is going on in this movie. But please BSG fans, believe me when I tell you this is just a tiny glimpse of what was in that script. There's plenty of sci-fi in there, IMHO.
